Probably requested by Illitch to get the hopes of all of those that want us to add at the deadline.  They get excited for a day then you go and trade Skubal, Mize, and Torres the next day.

And if he needs and adjustment, why not do it now when he can get 100+ PAs possibly and use those going into the offseason to learn from entering next year? Seems like a win, win scenario.

It has been noted that the poor guy’s first MLB game will be played in a minor league stadium.  Might help with the jitters, though.

Not a fan of his uniform number. 15 is for slugs.  From the days of little league they went up in size. 15 (out of 16 uniforms)was the fat kid or the big gangly one not yet coordinated for his size.  He needs a flashy number.  One that ends in 4.  4. 24. 34. 44.

He's helpful now so it makes sense if they are trying to get to the playoffs, but if he plays well I think it also takes some of the public sting off the trading route.

If he's perceived as a known quantity, it's  easier to justify the Dingler, McGonigle, Melton, Clark, Green (for two years) group as something you'd want to prioritize augmenting rather than rolling the dice on a low odds run.
