I have a Sony 55 that I have had for a long time and it is holding up nicely.  You get what you pay for.

Oh I paid plenty for that LG, which makes it all the more frustrating.  It was the EG9100 series, which was one of their higher end models at the time.

  2. I had forgotten about those Highland commercials. So great.

Last night my main TV bit the dust. Was watching baseball playoffs, and then I wasn't... Could still hear the audio, but the panel just completely died... So, I'm looking at the LG C1 OLED. It looks great, but the one that died was an LG and not that old (4.5 years, I believe). Any others I should consider? Looking at 55 inch.

  3. I don't feel bad for Gruden. It is odd though that his emails are the only thing that leaked from the investigation into the WFT. That reeks of a separate agenda from someone. That said, I would be surprised if there isn't more to come, not only regarding Washington, but things related to other teams/owners/coaches as well. No way Gruden was the only one sending stupid emails to Bruce Allen.

Buddy of mine told me to watch 'Old', so I did a few nights ago.  Turns out he only told me to watch it as he wanted someone else to be tortured.  Just an awful movie.

Seems like something I would do to Casimir (if he ever actually watched movies).

Apparently the default subtitle is English (CC) which often is a looser translation that differs on who is doing the translated, where it is coming from, etc.  Make sure to switch it to English without the CC and the translation is supposed to be much more accurate and based off the script.  I guess they still Americanize a few things for the translation but it is way better.  I heard the English dub is TERRIBLE but I never watch dubs.

Great, thanks. I'll try to remember that. I agree that dubs are usually the worst option.

We are 4 episodes into Squid Game and I am addicted to it.  I mistakenly thought it was a reality game show at first so I was realllllyyyy confused at first.  It does have some moments where you question how the hell things are happening or there seem to be some plot holes, but otherwise the show is so compelling to me that I don't really worry about them for long and just go for the ride.  Although apparently Netflix's subtitles (it is a Korean series) are apparently REALLY badly translated so that might be part of the plot holes I am seeing.  One rule of the games really confused me with how it played out in the show but apparently it is because one of the words in the rule was badly mistranslated.  I still can't wait to dive back in and see where the hell it is going.

Is there a recommendation with regard to the subtitles, or do you just have to live with it? I usually watch shows in the original language with English subs. Seems unlikely that I should choose the English dub for this. I was going to search it myself, but don't want to stumble on any spoilers...

  7. I guess I just disagree that the Mr I era is some cloud hanging over the team, or an elephant in the room or whatever other metaphor you want to use. Now when/if they get back to a place where they seem to be a player or two away from a championship, that might be a different story.

All joking aside, framing the Mike Ilitch era in relation to the deportment of a “drunken sailor” is an extremely disrespectful and impolitic thing to do, regardless of how accurate this description may be in an off the cuff sort of way. Being off the cuff in this manner about Mr. I seems unprofessional. Al Avila should be capable of a less caustic, less derisive way of framing the Mr. I era. The fact that he didn't speaks volumes, presumably, about the way he and Chris Ilitch view that era. We have all been gnashing our teeth about it for years but most of us aren’t managing an asset of the magnitude of the Detroit Tigers and I would expect a more circumspect manner of phrasing things than a low blow about a “drunken sailor” would imply.

What leads you to believe it was a dig at the Mike Illitch era? I just took it as not being like the Yankees/Dodgers. My mind didn't go to Mike Illitch / Dombrowski at all.

  9. I was really pulling for the chaos of the four way tie. At a minimum though I wanted one of Yankees/Red Sox knocked out of the wild card, so that was highly disappointing. As long as neither of them win, I'm happy. Best case to me though is Brewers vs Rays.

  10. You're not wrong! My mom was diagnosed in May 2020, so right in the middle of all the COVID nonsense. She had her surgery in Feb and now will have her last treatment at the end of October. In some ways, the pandemic helped. Since so much was shut down during that period, she didn't actually miss out on much. On the other hand, not being able to really see her and spend time with her really sucked. It's been a long, bumpy, uncertain road but better days are ahead. My thoughts are with you Cruzer.

Can you play those chords and create your own strumming pattern?

I guess... but at what BPM? I have a hard enough time getting things to sound right when I have the full tab information. If I'm just supposed to make up my own pattern and pace until it sounds right, that seems way harder.

Okay @Shades of Deivi Cruz , what is the latest?

    Well... not great...

I still practice regularly, but I've hit a wall of sorts in terms of progress. I work on a bunch of riffs (Seven Nation Army, Blister In The Sun, One, Come As You Are), but I don't get anywhere beyond that.  At one point I decided I was going to learn Knee Deep all the way through (I'm a big Buffett fan), but no part of that is in any way recognizable.

I can read and follow tabs just fine (mostly), but what I can't make sense of are chord charts (like this one). I get that I play a G for the first line, then a D for the second, etc, but without a strumming pattern or anything else to follow, I have no idea where to start. So I don't.

I've had some symptoms and went for a PCR test at Rite Aid last Thursday. I'm still waiting for the results. I'm vaccinated and feeling better now, but still isolating from the rest of the family just to be sure. Even if not COVID, don't want anyone else getting sick.

For the record, I got my results yesterday finally. Negative. News flash: other illnesses still exist in the world apparently!

PCR test scheduled for tomorrow, Walgreens is saying 3-5 days for results though.  I'm pretty confident she's going to be out of school for at least a week over the sniffles...annoying.

  15. For those looking for the drama version of Last Man on Earth, Y The Last Man is here for you.

I'm two episodes in, and I am enjoying it though I actually liked ep 1 more than ep 2. There are certainly a lot of post-apocalyptic shows out there, so we will see if it can last. It's on Hulu/FX.

While Matt Manning is being interviewed with his mouth full RedRum gets caught stealing.

That interview was so awkward. If you don't have something useful to ask about, just end the interview. Don't spend half of it on the guy's approach to fantasy football. Even Manning looked liked "WTF are they asking me about this for?".
