I think I was in undergrad with Dana... Hmmm... He was very left-wing and I was an obnoxious HW Bush fan veteran. I think he wouldn't have pissed on me if I was on fire on the sidewalk back in those days. I recall him being very upset with a very moderate history professor and protesting the Gulf War. Glad he found work.
I just returned from a trip to the Bay area. Drove across the Golden Gate bridge everyday to our VRBO in Mill Valley. Spendy, but very nice places to visit. Wish I had seen it earlier in my life.
as much as I like Biden, I'm not happy with the limitations on Ukraine's response to Russia. I get where it comes from. I wouldn't have played it like that. OTOH, its probably similar to how HW Bush would have played it.
I think folks who left the GOP over Trump should will be in a good place to smell the danger of our old side's propaganda and our new allies as well. Its pretty liberating. I reflect on how I responded to a lot of whistling past the graveyard stuff re: the Biden debate.
W's denouncement of Trump "weird ****" and his friendship with Michelle Obama at the various funerals are a pretty good post Presidential lense to view him through. I get the rage Dems must have felt in 2000 but I was protesting at the naval observatory in the wake of that election with my blue dog dem wife to get Gore "out of Cheney's house".
I also grew very discouraged by the hackery of people like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and full on despair at the mortgage crisis. Hard to defend that legacy.
9/11 was a prime mover for a ton of emotion. I was broken by the 2008 crash and my parents losing their house. I wasn't going to embrace Obama because I wasn't there yet.
The scales fell from my eyes in the early 2015 debates when the crazed audience was hooting about immigration and I'm like..."what is the big deal with that if we are trying to expand the pie?"
Then the Russia crap. So much bad.
I don't know. My core principles are the same. I think I'll be with whichever party best represents those. i think punishing the GOP for straying from those is going to remain the template for a while. So, I will still be that guy at the shooting range who is shaking his head at all the nuttery going on around him.
I realize that Bon Iver is a bit of an affectation but his use of Battle Cry of Freedom in that Wisconsin rally... MORE of that song. That is the perfect song for the moment. Screw these Russia-curious private equity horses asses.
Trump going to a rally this week in Bozeman Montana will really help him connect with voters in the midwest. I mean all those rich folks in Bozeman really do know how hard it is to make a living in the suburbs of the Great Lakes region.
