  1. This is a very interesting read
  2. One idea would be to have the ex-Presidents on a video discuss what they thought about the position and its responsibilities. Then have them intersplice Trump's most ridiculous norm-breaking acts. So maybe showing each president laying wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then have John Kelly looking into the camera describing the notification of a parent like himself when a soldier dies, then have others describe how Trump didn't want to see wounded warriors or travel to the military cemeteries, then have the footage of the ex-presidents at McCain's funeral, then have the ex-presidents sitting on a porch talking about that sacred duty. Then end with John Kelly saying "My son wasn't a sucker" But, that's just one idea.
  3. It will likely occur at a rally and/or on TV. Putin does have a foreign army on his territory so he might up his offer of support because its the fastest route to victory over NATO and the United States.
  4. Not unexpected but good to see The mobbed up Vegas casino owners will still shower money on Trump.
  5. Huge fan of that episode.
  6. I agree Biden's act was played out.
  7. And he started desegregation … after Truman desegregated the military
  8. Paul McCartney famously was derided by John Lennon for "silly love songs"
  9. I concur it is defensible. My priors are not Taters' prior of course. I come out of that world where nails need hammers. Many people in that line have regrets now. Accepting that Iraq was foisted on people for terrible reasons which I don't necessarily agree with but which had a terrible result. This was a failure of vision and strategy particularly because the management of it was done by overrated hacks (Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and Paul Bremer) who thought it could all be done on the cheap. I clearly recall in 2000 prior to the election that I was part of a consultant team working on Rumsfeld and co's "Non-linear logistics" for the SecDEF and looked at it all and thought...this is gonna get a lot of people killed in a world where tactical airlift can be shot down as easily as it can. I wasn't even comprehending the decade's worst killer of US troops: the IED. W's sins came with remorse. There is a difference. Trump killed hundreds of thousands who would otherwise have lived without his idiocracy. Trump is a Russian useful idiot (at a minimum). A perfect version of a W presidency would have been him going into Afghanistan in 2002 -- somehow getting Pakistan to hand over UBL and us figuring out how not to stay in those countries but that wasn't going to happen. UBL and KSM were going to strike the US in 2001 so, it was inevitable that 9/11 was going to happen in some form to Bush or Gore. Not, having a 2500 (Afghanistan) or 4500 (Iraq) US military casualties and many tens of thousands of wounded besides over 20 years would be hard to put up against the numbers of preventable dead from COVID in that one year.
  10. I mentioned this to a couple friends at work, whenever one of the insufferable MAGAs starts talking about guys in girls bathrooms or the high cost of eggs. Just drop this small mind dagger on them. Perhaps in concern troll fashion: "Ya know, Trump can't win without Florida and he was really mean to Desantis...so....". Then just let their small minds spin around the conspiranoia of how tough Trump was to Desantis and how Desantis because he is a governor has the power (in their minds) to switch votes as he feels like. The delicious pain they will feel will be short-lived because very quickly after this they will be fed some awesome propaganda about how Trump kills baby seals to give him strength and he's really ripped and shredded under the fat suit he wears.
  11. Lurking out there is Desantis revenge.
  12. all of them?
  13. Thread very interesting
  14. I think I was in undergrad with Dana... Hmmm... He was very left-wing and I was an obnoxious HW Bush fan veteran. I think he wouldn't have pissed on me if I was on fire on the sidewalk back in those days. I recall him being very upset with a very moderate history professor and protesting the Gulf War. Glad he found work.
  15. Zodiac is that you?
  16. Charlie Sykes was amusing https://charliesykes.substack.com/i/147503244/joyless-trump
  17. This is good the translation is dead on.
  18. Harry Truman was in the National Guard, W Bush was in the Air Guard. And DJT was a draft dodger. They are flailing.
  19. I just returned from a trip to the Bay area. Drove across the Golden Gate bridge everyday to our VRBO in Mill Valley. Spendy, but very nice places to visit. Wish I had seen it earlier in my life.
  20. as much as I like Biden, I'm not happy with the limitations on Ukraine's response to Russia. I get where it comes from. I wouldn't have played it like that. OTOH, its probably similar to how HW Bush would have played it.
  21. I think folks who left the GOP over Trump should will be in a good place to smell the danger of our old side's propaganda and our new allies as well. Its pretty liberating. I reflect on how I responded to a lot of whistling past the graveyard stuff re: the Biden debate.
  22. W's denouncement of Trump "weird ****" and his friendship with Michelle Obama at the various funerals are a pretty good post Presidential lense to view him through. I get the rage Dems must have felt in 2000 but I was protesting at the naval observatory in the wake of that election with my blue dog dem wife to get Gore "out of Cheney's house". I also grew very discouraged by the hackery of people like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and full on despair at the mortgage crisis. Hard to defend that legacy.
