I know the campaigns fairly well. Gettysburg is one of my favorite places in the World because its one of the definitive places where Democracy stood at a precipice. You could make a quick list: Gettysburg Dunkirk Midway Places where the entire Western and now global idea of Democracy stood at the brink and forces who were entirely on their back foot made a decisive stand in two cases and survived by the skin of their teeth in the other.

I think Oblong AND CMRIVdogs will have a better feel on this but the big mistake the Confederacy which cost them the war made was when they were trying to push into Maryland and Pennsylvania that they issued orders to seize freedmen as war booty and they were trying to knock out the North by taking Washington. This led to the Gettysburg campaign which stopped Lee cold.

as for what a coup is...an extra-constitutional attempt to change the government. The US Civil War was an attempt by the rebels to change the government of the people living in the rebel states.

Catastrophizing -- although warranted and understandable is -- something i'm trying to dial back on because its like panicking in a lifeboat situation.

I have hope the EU and NATO will rally to keep Ukraine going. They do not want Russia to capture the baltics again or threaten Poland and Romania. My hope is very thin reed though. Some really bad people are going to be in the administration.

We can't hope for the parasites to be kept out of this government but we can fight them when they need confirmations. The checks and balances need to be more than eye wash.

I think he will have a rough confirmation in a sober senate.

I guess we may miss out on the worst of this.
