  1. So the last two posts are related. The first shows that sanctions have impact on bad actors even if they take time. The second shows that the cost of the "Iron Curtain" was passed to Hungary to pay for because of the sluggishness of the Soviet economy and Hungary had to fund its border defenses via loans and ultimately decided not to pay for upgrades to the border defenses. Then it actually reevaluated why did it have those defenses in the first place when the Soviets were no longer going to crush them if they allowed some liberalization (like they did in 1956). The result was the end of the Iron Curtain in 1989 in the Eastern Bloc. Of course Vladdie was watching all that happen from East Germany and saw how little challenges to the authority of the autocrats was bad and decided to rule ruthlessly. Now, with the rich gulf states, the oligarchs, the mafia he's close to rebuilding his empire. Good luck to Europe and humanity if the United States won't be the bulwark.
  2. This is. really interesting documentary in terms of style and substance!
  3. "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil." They will put that on our money.
  4. This is a heck of a thread. Jacek Debiec, MD, PhD, DPhil 🌎 🧠: "There was a lot of #AcademicFreedom, good scholarship, and independent thought in German universities before Hitler. After Hitler had risen to power, many academics fled the country. Some resisted the Nazi regime and were persecuted. Most adapted to a new situation. Here are some examples. 1/n" β€” Bluesky Jacek Debiec, MD, PhD, DPhil 🌎 🧠: "One of Husserl's students, Hannah Arendt, was jailed by the Gestapo for her research on antisemitism prohibited by the Nazis and on her release, fled Germany. β€œThe sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”- Hannah Arendt #AcademicFreedom 3/n" β€” Bluesky Jacek Debiec, MD, PhD, DPhil 🌎 🧠: "Martin Heidegger, one of Husserl's most brilliant students and Arendt's lover of four years, soon after Hitler got to power, joined the Nazi Party and was elected rector of the Freiburg University. "National Socialism is a barbarous principle. That is its essence and potential greatness." 4/n" β€” Bluesky Jacek Debiec, MD, PhD, DPhil 🌎 🧠: "After Hitler came to power, Edith Stein, another of Husserl's students, was forced to quit her teaching position. She became a Carmelite nun and perished in Auschwitz. β€œThose who remain silent are responsible.” - Edith Stein #AcademicFreedom 5/n" β€” Bluesky Jacek Debiec, MD, PhD, DPhil 🌎 🧠: "After Hitler came to power, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was a Lutheran theologian and pastor, became an anti-Nazi dissident. The Nazis hanged him in 1945. "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil." #AcademicFreedom 7/n" β€” Bluesky
  5. Each time you ignore an X post you put a straw under baby Jesus.
  6. As for the social media...we are all hypocrites searching in the dark for honorable answers to crappy situations. Nothing comes from nothing though.
  7. Block is the wrong term. NOT DO IT is what I meant. Boycott. Do not enable the evil people who support Nazis.
  8. yes it is...but you can see the value of a social media which has some sense of norms.
  9. wow and by wow I mean...too strong, friend.
  10. We should shun X until that Nazi is replaced as its owner/CEO. If you support Nazis go ahead and use X.
  11. why does a league that has a Rooney Rule supporting the Afd party in Germany?
  12. Is he calling the men who died fighting Hitler stupid?
  13. and **** baseball twitter if it doesn't remove itself from X.
  14. Was watching "Rogue Heroes" the other day and one of the ops they did was on Crete. They mentioned that the locals all wear black to commemorate the death of their messiah. So, while i was in Germany in the 1980s we used to joke about the old ladies who always wore black and it wasn't because their husbands had died in the War it was because mustache man had died. FRONTLINE investigates the rise of the Neo-Nazi AfD Party in Germany | TPR These people have always been there but the political norms have kept them down, suppressed. It was not a good thing to ease off those norms. Just as it is not a good thing for Trump and company to **** on the norms regarding bigotry and racialist violence in this country we had only just suppressed. But, hey they figured out how to build a media blowtorch to funnel Putin-created propaganda as well as their own into the eye sockets of a bunch of people who didn't like being told they couldn't use the N-word.
  15. ADL - which defended Nazi Musk over his Nazi salute - seems to not like the party that Musk loves. Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party: What You Need To Know | ADL
  16. Totally true.
  17. Of all posters? Why because I have the historical knowledge to know why Nazis are bad?
  18. β€˜Heil Tesla’ projected on to German car factory
  19. It surprised me when the NFL decided to remain with a platform run by a Nazi.
  20. How is a boycott censorship? Are we no longer allowed freedom in the marketplace to choose to enable the oligarch propaganda?
  21. The Eagles of last year are a good example of how things can change in one season. That Eagles team last year was a home fraud in playoffs against the Packers. This one is very good and made it to the NFC Championship game. They bumped their defensive talent and added a FA RB who apparently is Charles Barkley's son. The Lions can improve their defense by adding injured guys back and resigning guys who might be at a discount because of season ending injuries.
  22. I think it would be a good idea to block Twitter posts here to protest the Nazi Musk as well. I realize the sports content is so good but that's like saying you would fight the nazis but you enjoy their music.
