  1. If this were the same old Lions, both players would retire early and there would be a years long feud over the signing bonus.
  2. Sewell was already signed for one more year and the Lions picked up his 5th year option. After that is when this contract picks up. The good thing is the signing bonus is spread of 6 years instead of 4 which reduces the cap. I think they did it similar with St Brown. St Brown doesn't have a 5th year option since he was a 4th round pick so he had one year left. He's under control now for 5 years and the signing bonus will be spread over 5 years.
  3. I keep forgetting Sewell is still only 23.
  4. This would spread the signing bonus over 6 years.
  5. This is what good teams do. You draft your franchise players and pay them. You use free agency on short term contracts to fills gaps in the roster. You let good but not franchise players like Jonah Jackson get paid elsewhere.
  6. This is why the Lions weren't big spenders in free agency.
  7. Signing Goff to a new contract would likely lower his cap hit. Last year he had the 3rd highest cap hit in the league. These new contracts likely don't change the cap hit for Sewell or St Brown much this year. In fact, Sewell was going to have a $19 million cap hit in 2025 so it's possible that is lower.
  8. Just think three years ago and you are St Brown and Sewell and you were just drafted to a dumpster fire of an organization and now you are the highest paid players at your position on a Super Bowl contender.
  9. I'm guessing they announce the Goff contract tomorrow right before the Rams pick so the fans can chant Jared Goff.
  10. I assumed Sewell would sign next year since he has a 5th year option. That 5th year option is $19 million so signing now may lower his cap hit next year and spread it out.
  11. Didn’t see this coming.
  12. Jefferson, Lamb, Higgins, and Aiyuk are all in line for extensions soon. At least 2 of the 4 will get a bigger contract than St Brown.
  13. Goff had the 3rd highest cap hit in the league last year. NFL Salary Rankings | Spotrac
  14. People don't realize that Goff had one of the highest cap hits in the league last year. With restructures and new contracts a lot of QBs had low cap hits. There is a lot of room to adjust Goff's upcoming cap hit with a new contract.
  15. I have no idea what this means.
  16. and then he realized his QB is Sam Darnold.
  17. I feel like McNeil is going to be that tough decision where you let him walk because you have so many other players to sign. After Goff they have Sewell, then Hutchinson, then Laporta and maybe Gibbs and Branch. Good thing is they are staggered so it isn't all hitting at once.

  19. My prediction will be Tayshaun Prince. Gores will give him a dump truck full of money.
  20. How many QBs and OL actually last on the team that drafted them for 12+ years? The chart that was posted earlier show interior lineman has lasting the longest and that's considered another low value position. My position has gone to taking elite talent regardless of position. I would rather have an elite talent at a low value position than an average talent at a high value position.
