For a team relying on pitching they sure have an abundance of poor to mediocre defenders with their best two,Meadows and Verling, on the injured list. This spells trouble.
Why is Jace Jung the DH two straight games ? Wouldn't Hinch want to see his third base play as much as possible ? This plus the aggressive play that made for Bregman makes me think they are not too keen on Jace at least not at third. Time will tell I guess.
Why keep McStinky ? Just let Jung and Tork play in Detroit at least they have potential upside. This love for mcStinky to the point of loosing young players seems counter productive to me.
Mazda. I like it. We now have McStinky, Captain Jack and Mazda. And I guess Tork. Seriously Mazda pitched great in relief for the Dodgers and his velo in short relief should sustain year long. Could prolong his career as well.
Crazy thought but Maeda's strikeout #'s/9 seem to indicate possible late inning reliever if he can maintain 91-92. I think he could end up in short relief.
If the Hall of Fame is based on performance on the field and only that then Pete Rose should be inducted. Morality is not part of the evaluation and if it was I am sure some now in would be excluded. I do not like Pete Rose but he is the all time hit leader and not in the Hall which doesn't make sense if your honoring accomplishments on the field.
I was a bit surprised when they resigned McStinky this off season and rationalized it as insurance for Baez's health because if ElMago can indeed play and Sweeny is the "starter" then where does McStinky's playing time come unless you cut Ibanez or demote Jung. This is even more tru if they want Tork to DH and have Carp in RF and Verling play some third. Of all the names just mentioned only McStinky and Baez are not long term high (potentially) ceiling players. And one makes $$$.
But Hinch loves his utility knife and Harris hates losing"his guys" so we shall see.
