fortunately most of the reataurants have already incorporated his name into their menus. kung pao caleb chicken isnt as bad as one might think.
-
The cubs have been very bad this season. the white sox being the worst team of all time has taken a lot of the focus off them locally. well, that and caleb williams, which is all anyone in this town can talk about.

The Park Hyatt is cordoned off because that's where kamala is staying, iirc. i assume the tigers and mlb booked these hotels a long time ago. if not, theyre in the burbs somewhere. its probably better to be in the burbs this week.

taking the family to wrigley tonight. 9 year old's first game! our downtown office is closed this week because of the dnc. nobody wants to mess with that. there were some protests down michigan avenue on sunday, yesterday was pretty quiet. only 5 arrests. up here we dont see much of anything, even though i live right next to a large arab and jewish neighborhood (living together peacefully, despite the rhetoric of certain chicago politicians). if youre on the northside, you should be fine.

bringing back a hobbled kirk gibson could be like bringing back verlander. cabrera was obviously a different situation. cabrera was signed to a ridiculous extension (that many on this board were in favor of at the time, including many analytics folks), it was either cut him or play him. they were so bad it didnt matter. i liked to see him play even if he was bad.

watching kirk gibson in the twilight of his career hobble around as a part time DH was very fun. he could still hit when called upon, even in a very part time role. flashback to 94: "why do we have to see kirk gibson when its clear danny bautista is the future!"

fabbri, walman, bowey (??? he was a kenny trade), and perlini were not "taking on a big contract reclamation project that you then flip for picks". those guys were reclamation projects we traded assets for that didnt pan out. sean monahan, patrick laine...habs are using their cap space correctly. i trust yzerman as much as the next guy, but i dont think he used his cap space as effectively as others are doing. i get the intent behind chairot, copp, etc, but it might have been nice to have taken a couple more guys with big salaries to flip. hindsight is 20/20, i know.

nick leddy is another.
-
how many picks did they get for fabbri, walman, bowey, and perlini? what big contracts did they have? staal i will give you.

whispers [that's the type of deal the wings should have been making two years ago...trading for reclamation projects and getting picks...]

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40918015/candid-tua-tagovailoa-calls-brian-flores-coaching-style perhaps this is why brian flores was fired and not the color of his skin? kind of like josh mcdaniel...and matt patricia.

not miggy. but i had no problem watching him play the last few years, unlike the rest of the board. if verlander can pitch i'd like to see him back.
-
feel good moves with mike illitch? you mean the most successful time period in the last 40 years? lol. signing verlander to a one year deal hurts nothing. feel good stories are awesome!
-
i'd love to see verlander come back, even if he is on and off the DL all year. it would be a nice swansong for his career to end up where it started. wonder if he'd be interested in closing? i dont have the same vibes about scherzer. i dont have the same emotional attachment to him and he left for marginally more money in his prime. he wasnt a tiger product from the beginning like verlander was. dont care if he comes back or not.

the fact that this team almost went to the super bowl with kindle vildor as their starting cb says something.
-
former michigan commit xavier worthy is going to torch a lot of people this year.
-
boo to you, sir.
-
right out of the gate? probably not high. by the end of the year? very high.

20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)
buddha replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Pistons
the in season tourney games were some of the best regular season games last year. there's an incentive to score and keep scoring. its nice to see them try things to make the regular season games actually mean something. sure, if they wanted to do that they would reduce the schedule or reduce rhe number of teams that make the playoffs; however, the nba is a money making enterprise and we know they are not going to reduce the number of games because that will reduce their income. this is a nice experiment. -
when mckinstry was cruz's age he had an ops over 800 in AA. the next year he was 880 in AAA. the idea that trei cruz will come to the majors and hit better than mckinstry is fanciful. its baseball so you never know, but....highly highly unlikely.
-
trei cruz? he's 25 in AA and barely hitting a lick. come on 84...

tennessee was involved in the largest pay for play scandal in history. pruitt got a show cause order and the university got a fine. why? because tennessee sued them. miami has sworn testimony of guys buying hookers and crack. they got nothing. ohio state has sworn testimony of fake jobs and boosters spending thousands on fake jobs. urban meyer covered up domestic abuse. they get nothing.e nothing happens. michigan had one "booster" (he wasnt even a booster) giving kids money (who was also giving kids from other schools money) and the school put themselves on probation and begged forgiveness and the ncaa STILL nailed them to the wall. richrod practiced for 15 minutes extra (which everyone does) and the ncaa put michigan on probation. michigan always gets ****ed no matter what they do. **** the ncaa. michigan should build harbaugh a god damn statue.
-
going to get tougher in the future without curry, lebron, and durant.
-
harbaugh is a hero to michigan. he will likely always be. so let them honor him. big deal.
-
days before the hard salary cap dont count. that's a different world when you could have multiple good players on the team. hendon hooker might be good enough by the middle or end of the year to be "ok enough" to steady the ship for a few games. hey, josh dobbs did ok for a few games last year too (the vikings lost their starter and did not make the playoffs, much less win the super bowl, which is the usual outcome when you lose your starting qb).
