20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)

JEiii with his first kiss ass trajan article of the year. he's so patient. he signed solid pros. he didnt spend all of their cap space like some people would have done. its very funny considering he used to kiss troy weaver's ass too. maybe this will lead to some articles about how the pistons just need X player to come back from injury and it will all be good, just like he used to write all the time about....checks notes... isaiah livers. -
3 years $75m for miles bridges in charlotte. at least now we know he'll have enough money to pay off his legal fees. maybe.
-
good thing the bulls didnt cash in on derozan last year. another smart decision based on clear, long term thinking.

that starting lineup would give up 40 points a quarter. but youre right, they would score more than last year. -
no one is taking compher with his contract. he's here for a while.

"Detroit Pistons have also expressed interest in Beasley and have flirted with offering the 27-year-old guard a one-year deal. However, Detroit has held off for now amid trade discussions with other teams to act as a salary dump destination for draft pick compensation, league sources told HoopsHype." i'd rather give danielson a try than give up assets to trade for (and then pay) necas and zegras.
-
it will definitely cost them votes.
-
i'm counting on raymond to become a 40 goal guy next year. or close to it.
-
won't someone please think of the children!!!!

i dont think its a good look either, but i am not overly concerned about it affecting his ability to manage players. he was very successful in houston when he had talented players. he has not been successful in detroit when he has not had talented players. jim leyland was great in pittsburgh when he had barry bonds, andy van slyke, and bobby bonilla and not great when he didnt. he was garbage in colorado and quit. every manager is only as good in a 162 game season as the talent he is given. the playoffs are sometimes a different story, but not always.
-
you're doing that thing again where you overrate all the tigers prospects. put some alcohol in those dr peppers. 🙂
-
i guess so. do you think leyland didnt know rogers was using pine tar on his glove? or that gary sheffield was juiced? i think leyland knew about plenty of cheating going on and didnt do anything about it because he has to manage a team and win games. everyone clutches their pearls about aj hinch but never says boo about the other - many other - cheating instances that have occurred with their favorite players. if you somehow think the astros scandal was worse, that's your choice. i just see it as another instance in a very long line of instances of players using every advantage they can to win. just like our hero hank greenberg did.

if youre making an argument that pitchers have to go all out to avoid giving up homeruns to everyone in the lineup, doing so in a forum with folks who have to watch the 2024 tigers bat may not be the most receptive audience.

the detroit tigers
-
i'm sure all of you who hold disdain for hinch over the astros cheating have the same disdain for del baker, and hank greenberg, and rudy york for cheating and stealing signs in the 1940 world series. having a guy in center field tell them what pitches were coming. https://www.vintagedetroit.com/sign-stealing-helped-tigers-win-1940-pennant/ right?

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
buddha replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
hao-yu lee is our second baseman of the future. keith can play left field or something. jung can play first? if he makes it. tork will play for another team. -
its very funny that people think aj hinch is the problem with this team.
-
another guy that could have been useful in detroit.

plus harris is on the team for $26 million for the next two years. no one is giving you picks for average to below averge play and $26 million. he's a buyout candidate, not a trade candidate. the "he wanted to come here, yay!" stuff is just sad. overpay an actual GOOD role player, dont overpay an old man who is past it. i dont blame langdon as much for harris because i think that deal was in place for a long time. i do blame him for giving up assets to get thj. that seemed dumb. and if you are going down the "collect assets for cap space road" then he's done a real ****ty job of it so far. ive been reading about all these teams that will have to dump salary to stay below the various caps and taxes and how the pistons were poised to take advantage of that. JEiii has been spouting that **** as gospel for two years: "wait until 2024 and you'll see... well, were waiting. -
holl over chairot is not going to happen. im not sure why you hate chairot so much that you put him (an assistant captain) behind holl, a guy who was scratched for 3/4 of the season. gufstaffson is low rent ghost. not as good on the pp but better on defense. he's not a #1 pair d for any team with playoff ideas. and you left out berggren.

and they gave away an nba player to get hardaway. the three second round picks are....something? harris is a waste of money. he was finished at the end of last year and the pistons just gave him half of their available cap space. to do what? be old and occasionally hit a jumper? tobias harris is here because the old regime set up this deal months ago. is he an upgrade? i guess? but not as much of one as some of you are insisting. if he gets hot could he bring back a pick in return? maybe some seconds but he wont bring back a first. it's a nothing signing. this whole offseason has been nothing so far. theyre going to see if the new staff can develop the existing talent. i'm ok with that, i guess. but if this was langdon's strategy of acquiring assets, he hasnt done a good job of it yet. but its still early. -
what are you doing with berggren? does he go in the ekblad trade? 😉
