  1. i dont put anything past belicheck.
  2. a note on flores: miami did add a left tackle and tyreek hill, but they also changed the offense to make it more tua friendly and there are no reports (yet) about internal strife like there was when flores was the coach. i think flores comes from the belichek tree and almost everyone from that tree has had a reputation for being a hard ass sob who does all sorts of questionable things and has no modern man management skills. patricia. mcdaniels. o'brien. weiss. everyone except romeo crennell has had a hard ass attitude and being a royal jack ass about it, trying to emulate the great bill bellicheck. i think there's a lot more to flores' failure than "stephen ross is a jerk."
  3. i remember watching a 60 minutes type thing on the nfl and pain killers. they had urlacher on there talking about taking horse tranquilizers for pain killing. they told him all the side effects and how it will affect him down the road and he basically said "i dont care, i love playing football. shoot me up 1000 times so i can play." i think that's the attitude a lot of them have. its their livelihood and they love to play it. the money, the fame, doing a fun job every week for obscene amounts of pay. they'll do whatever they can to keep playing.
  4. then what should the protocol be?
  5. do you think the nhl should eliminate checking?
  6. its possible that cabrera decides to take a buyout and hang em up for $40 million to do nothing. it seems like he likes to be part of the team and to keep playing in a reduced capacity. as someone noted earlier, i think he wants to exit tour and the attention that comes from that. we'll see how ruthless they want to be.
  7. i dont know if i would "trust" them either, but i dont know if he had a concussion or what grade of concussion he had. or if it was severe enough to keep him off the field. im not a doctor. none of us here are (although im sure there will be a tweet or two posted in order to shit poast about it). if he passed the protocols then he passed the protocols. i dont know if he did or not or how they were administered, but i wouldnt automatically assume he had an apparent debilitating injury. he might have, we just dont know because we dont have all the information. i assume we'll get more information now and then we can make a more accurate assessment. the emotion of the moment oftens clouds what actually happened. and then the investigation will be designed to fit the narrative the people running the investigation seek to shape. we already know the narrarive the press will run with.
  8. 1) its an issue in rugby too. there are all sorts of articles about it in the uk. not as much as here, but its out there. 2) the rules in rugby are different and you dont have the same amount of head to head contact you have in american football. you have scrums, but that contact is mostly shoulder to shoulder (hence the cauliflower ear). you cant hit anyone when theyre in the air. you cant tackle up high. the rules are designed for form tackling. the concussions you see in rubgy are more knees hitting heads. but they still happen quite a bit. 3) you dont have a piece of hard plastic on your head that makes you into a missile. you dont have the line of scrimmage where you have 350 pound men two feet from each other crashing right into each other 100 times a game. and you dont have downfield passing with vulnerable receivers. as i said, in rugby you cannot hit anyone if their feet are off the ground. 4) its even an issue in soccer with heading the ball and so many times and people smacking their heads together when they both try to head the same ball. this is 2022. there is a contingent of society that feels we all must be protected from harm at all times, and that anything that might harm you must be eliminated. as far as im concerned, head injuries are a risk to playing football and rugby amd soccer. nobody makes you play. if you dont want the risk, then dont play. like most things, its a balancing act. reasonable efforts should be made to make the game safer for the participants while not taking away the attractiveness of the game to the spectators.
  9. you dont know he had a head injury, "dr mcs".
  10. me too. if he wants to be on the team, he'll be on the team.
  11. AD is going to hustle on the perimeter? lol. in what world? the first time he tries to change direction he'll pull a muscle and be out for a month.
  12. i thought he'd be a good fit at michigan or notre dame, but i dont think harbaugh is leaving any time soon and notre dame made their bed with freeman. although the way notre dame is recruiting and michigan isnt, those situations might change in the near future...
  13. in fairness to miami, the dolphins have looked like one of the best teams in the league since they fired flores. i dont know what happened with tua last week but the optics are certainly bad and the twitterati will be out with their pitchforks.
  14. depends on the job. what big program has an opening? i dont see one coming. i wouldnt leave for auburn or nebraska.
  15. its iowa. they'll get a special teams td, a defensive td, and two safeties. win 18-17.
  16. lol. that's how i feel about baseball now for the most part.
  17. iowa is 5-1 in their last six home games against top 5 opponents.
  18. not when there's football to watch!
  19. i'm irrationally excited about buchelnikov.
  20. i hope we get another "miggys in the best shape of his career" article from mccoskey next year.
  21. through two games, i'd say zadina, kubalik, berggren, and soderblum have been impressive. the young defensemen really havent. mcissac, johannson, and edvinsson.
  22. edvinsson has also taken multiple penalties. if he makes the team its because he passes the puck well or they want him here to be around pros. i havent seen anything that makes me think he's nhl ready. not yet. still plenty of time.
  23. i havent been impressed with edvinsson. kocharski for the hawks has been much more impressive. faster and more active offensively. edvinsson has turned it over a ton.
  24. how old is too old for tommy john surgery?
