Who do you want to replace Harbaugh if he goes to the NFL?
buddha replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in College Sports
i want clink to stay, but might want someone else to come in and call the plays. not sure clink is ready. -
this would be a good draft to be 1 or 2. which will suck when it ends up being the blackhawks so they can replace kane/toewes. although the league might be pissed at them after the sex abuse thing. nyah, they'll still give it to a big market.

the vaccine is like the flu shot. people get reactions to the flu shot all the time. its not usually a big deal. however, as a parent, its concerning that the shots were put out so quickly, without the usual time frame and testing that would normally go into a vaccine for smaller children.

maybe i'm greedy, but i was hoping for higher than 7. lol. he has edvinsson, cossa, and berggren as the only high level contributors in the group, with the next level as maybe being solid contributing players. after 12, its still a crapshoot if they can contribute or not. but this group combined with two calder candidates on the big squad is not bad.

fangio isnt going to want to recruit. i want a younger, hungrier guy. -
and yet they are in the lawsuit because they fired jim caldwell and teryl austin didnt think he had a chance at the head coaching job.

harbaugh's situation kind of undermines flores' argument too. harbaugh has the best resume of any coach on the market. he's won at every level. he's been to a super bowl. yet he has a reputation as being hard to work with and now he cant get hired. he's being passed over for younger coaches who are all in on "analytics." and after the success of those coaches: mcvay, taylor, staley, why wouldnt a team want to pluck someone from that tree? its been much more successful than the "patriot way" coaches. and hue jackson coming out of the woodwork isnt helping him any...

nagy was in charge of the offense with the bears. he couldnt make it work with trubisky and blamed the lack of offense on that. bears then traded for foles and signed dalton because nagy thought he needed a veteran who knew the offense. it still didnt work. then he called plays when fields was in charge and he looked awful. when nagy gave up the play calling, fields looked much better as they got him out of the pocket and moving, things to take advantage of fields' natural ability and lessen the influence of the bears' terrible o line. things that seemed obvious to everyone but nagy never did. look, maybe he's great. maybe he'll be better with the lions. maybe he's just there to help with a structure campbell has in place and campbell will continue to call the plays. but when nagy was in charge in chicago, the bears were not good, and his play calling was a big reason why.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
buddha replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
the purpose of the draft is to make bad teams better, you destroy that with lotteries and giving better teams the top picks because they "tried to compete." sometimes teams are just bad for a while. it happens.- 1,851 replies

nagy looked great when he had andy reid and patrick mahomes. when he went to chicago he was terrible, and the bears offense was better when he gave up play calling duties.

lotteries do not eliminate tanking: see the nba. only getting rid of the draft entirely or having a true system that punishes teams for failure (like relegation) will do that. if your goal is to end tanking - or reduce it - in a fashion in keeping with the traditions of american sport and politically possible with themz then increase the number of teams who can make the playoffs.- 1,851 replies

super bowl winning coach gets hired = moar racism.

call me skeptical that" cant we all just get along" will work as a judicial philosphy.

i dont know if it would have changed their mind. but like mb says, there is a big difference between one unsubstantiated allegation in a case that was dropped and mutliple allegations of all types of wrongdoings. there is an issue with black coaches not being hired, eric bienemy shouldnt be the poster boy for that.

saber guys bug me, so smug. but maybe that's because they wont let me into their cool parties? (actually that's not true. i've been very drunk with many of them.)

i'd probably put cobb ahead of aaron too. but i'd put bonds ahead of both of them. williams is interesting because he missed significant time to two wars. if he hadnt, he might be #1 on the list. but ruth (and robinson) are both highly rated not only because they were great players, but also because they transcended the game. they were more than just baseball players. in that way both are a bit overrated, especially robinson.

the wings beating the flyers was the happiest ive ever been as a sports fan. i was too young for 1984 (only 12). i remember 1984. i remember being happy, but was too young to appreciate it because i hadnt lived with the pain of losing (although i do remember losing out in 83 to the orioles and 81 to the brewers). the bad boys beating the celtics and michael jordan was probably more meaningful than actually winning the title. the 2004 team was fun but not the same as isiah finally getting them over the hump. the lions? well....tbd. michigan winning in 97 was right up there in great moments, but strangely enough, beating ohio state this year was just as satisfying. after waiting so long and nobody giving them a shot, to finally do it was very satisfying. but the wings finally winning it when i was in my mid 20s and had gone through the pain of being so terrible, then be so good and never winning, and then getting manhandled by the devils and upset by the avs and everyone thinking we'll never win and then no one giving them a chance against lindros and the legion of doom and then finally doing it. that was the best. the best ive ever felt as a sports fan.

youre really straining to defend eric bienemy. i'll remember that the next time you go off on how no nfl team should sign kareem hunt.
-
they didnt know about the patricia stuff.
-
you do???? no way! i think the opposite. also not a surprise. lol

the mainstream media overrates jeter, the saber community underrates him. he'a too high on that espn list, but he still belongs on the list. he had a great career, even if he should have been "younted" off shortstop when arod got there. arod should be higher on that list. bonds too. pedro is too high (even though he's better than koufax), harper doesnt belong on it at all. ortiz is too high. gerhringer too low. cobb is just about right. its funny that ruth at #1 is controversial now, but it is what it is. swap him with mays if youre concerned about defense and our supposed ability to track things like "runs saved" now.

how do you prove something like that? i think we've all been in interviews where we knew were werent getting the job. half the thing is getting your name out there, that youre interested in moving up and - in the case of nfl assistants - getting your name on people's radars.

i thought it was funny how the next generation of podcasters and writers were up in arms about derrick rose being signed while also genuflecting at how awesome chauncey billups was. ummmm...you all know chauncey paid off a woman who accused him of sexual assault, right?

sorry, i should have said i think the educational opportunities offered to whites that black coaches may not have had is not the reason.
-
i dont think thats the issue. white college football coaches arent any smarter than anyone else. i think the issue is getting qualified candidates in the pipeline. the lack of black candidates came from years of discrimination and not allowing them to coach. now you have more candidates slowly working their way through the system and more are getting hired. the nfl is trying to incentivize their hiring and that's a good thing. i think you'll see more of them hired in the future.
