I watched footage of Augustine's first game and thought he looked good. His movement and style really reminds me of Jon Quick. But good god, did Grand Rapids' defense look absolutely awful in front of him. Gustaffson especially looked like crap and I thought that Buium had a rough game not being able to keep up with his foot speed. Whatever is going on there probably has a lot to do with Cossa's current results but I was shocked to see how the team looked.

I think you could ride his Olympic popularity wave and trade him still. I'm starting to think it may be the move because he doesn't seem to be the captain/go-to guy to make a team break through plus at his age it seems like he won't be around if the Wings ever get good again. Plus I think his play style is going to age awfully since he is so reliant on speed. When he gets hurt and he can't move around well each season and then falls off a cliff it feels like a glimpse into his future to me. But I'm also still in the anger phase of the season so I'm fine with getting rid of anyone in the organization because it certainly can't get worse! I don't think Yzerman or McClellan could have done much different but at this point I don't care if anyone has any job security in the org because F it they collapsed so epically.

Pretty cool!

I think Tuch hits free agency and gets insanely overpaid because he's the only free agent worth a damn, but once again I'm wrong a lot! Maybe he likes it in Buffalo after the winning...

It is certainly getting crowded down in Grand Rapids. I have to imagine some of them will fill spots vacated by pending free agents: Hamonic (obviously don't need him back) JVR (faded hard down the stretch after providing some nice depth at first) Perron (he's old even if I love his attitude) Kane (I can take or leave him, it is nice to have him on the PP, maybe they re-sign him another year partly in hopes it helps DeBrincat extend) Talbot (Just bring up Cossa already) Wallinder should be up unless he looks absolutely awful in camp, he has to go through waivers and someone would claim him. I don't see any other defenders down there making the jump. Buium's skating seems to still not be NHL level from what I see, I would be shocked if he's ready but I'm often wrong. Anton Johansson is an interesting wild card but still probably gets an AHL year. Danielson, MBN, and maybe Lombardi have a chance to make the team I think for the forwards. Probably not all of them. The NHL free agent class is absolutely awful so I don't know what the Wings will do with a decent amount of roster spots open. I wouldn't mind shooting Rasmussen into the sun to make further room too.

NDN signed his ELC and is coming to North America

I'm so annoyed that the Wings waited until they were basically eliminated to play like last night lol. Go figure. Almost as annoyed as having the 12th best record in the league and missing the playoffs but they can only blame themselves for blowing multiple games they should have won, in regulation mostly too. I had to take a little Red Wings break earlier this week I was so frustrated.

Not surprising he signed now at all honestly, I never understood the doomer idea that he wouldn't sign with Detroit. Also tidy work to go with a tryout so that the contract starts next season.

When you lack skilled players I don't think the answer is trading one of your most skilled players based on small sample sizes in hopes that down the line you get a player that is more elite than the one you have. I understand the sentiment about being mad about the current roster's results but it feels like you're just cutting your nose off to spite your face if that's the route you go to fix it. I understand I'm in the minority here and probably should have just kept my feelings to myself. I should probably just take a break overall lol.

Even thinking about trading Raymond seems crazy to me, it feels like the Maple Leafs getting rid of Marner and their fans thinking their team actually improved because of it.

Nope, they would have his rights through next season as well. As long as he's NCAA eligible. I imagine he signs with the Wings now though because MSU had another high profile goalie prospect sign with them for next season.

Seems like Cossa is in a late season slump again, two goals tonight he probably should have had and he's given up a bunch the last few games.

He's been playing really well in Grand Rapids, I'm very glad to see the organization make this move.
