  1. I have the same (over?)reaction. Is he going to be one of those players who gets injured every year?
  2. I would be willing to take the loss on the plan for a period of time. It is hard to go off track record with Baddoo, because he has had an unusual development path and may not have had a fair opportunity to learn to hit lefties. I also am wiling to accept that, through analysis and scouting, they have already identified him as someone who is not likely to reduce his platoon split.
  3. The Rays have had remarkable success doing what they do with a limited payroll. Have other teams had sustained success operating like them? Do they operate that way to save money or because it works better than the traditional way? I'd love to see the Tigers manage their roster the Sparky way, but I am leery of them imitating the extreme model of the Rays.
  4. Platoons are great. That's what I grew up with and it wasn't just Sparky Anderson. Earl Weaver was famous for platoons too and it seems that many teams had a platoon or two going on. It would work better if they expanded rosters while keeping the 13 pitcher requirement. It is easier to platoon with 15 players than 13. Is their proof that giving players reps helps eliminate platoon splits? Platoons aside, young players often get better with reps so it would stand to reason that some players could get better from the side of the plate that gives them trouble. I imagine it's a coaching/scouting thing where an experienced eye is able to identify which ones can and can't overcome the splits.
  5. You have to ask yourself if they are doing something wrong.
  6. Monroe is horrible. He is like a parody of an over excited analyst homer.
  7. The reason is he hasn't hit them. He is still young though, so it would good to see if he can figure them out. Or have they given up already?
  8. Marisnick used to be a good field no hit outfielder. I don't think he does much of either anymore. He was getting on base for Charlotte at least.
  9. I said I HOPE he is not out long. I always expect something bad when a pitcher gets injured. The latest doesn't sound good.
  10. The Tigers have been playing well, but they don't have the kind of roster that can overcome injuries. Hopefully, the Rodriguez injury doesn't keep him out long.
  11. I have heard it called the Texas of Canada. I don't know that it has a terrible reputation, but I was surprised to see them #1 on this list.
  12. Yes, that too. It was a very poor AI depiction.
  13. You are thinking too much! They have to use guys like Ibanez because they suck and nobody good wants to play in Detroit but they can't drop him because it will make it look like an unattractive place to play!
  14. ****Alberta. Where the **** is that? We are way more ******* developed than ******* Alberta.
  15. They look a lot tougher than the real Tigers.
  16. He's 32 years old. I bet if they offered him two years, he would have taken it. I think they just weren't focused on relievers. If he had not opted out, they probably would have traded him.
  17. If the morgue offered him enough money/years, I bet he would have taken it.
  18. Maybe he really wanted to play in Arizona, but I think he over over estimated his value at the time of the opt out. It seemed like a good move at the time. I thought he'd be able to get a two-year deal.
  19. I am confident Chafin would have made himself available to the Tigers at some price. He said he wanted to stay in the Midwest so he would be close to his farm and then he went to Arizona who made the best offer. The Tigers didn't want to pay whatever price it would have taken to sign him. I think adding relievers was not a priority of Harris during the off-season. I don't really fault him for that.
  20. Ibanez has 1 hit in his last 40 at bats. That is a .025 batting average. They might as well let the pitcher bat instead.
  21. So, go for the high OBP and high SLG and don't worry about batting average.
  22. Still can't hit lefties, but the Tigers like to platoon so they can carry a hitter like that more easily than they could in the past.
  23. One of the rare times lately that the Tigers bullpen couldn't keep the lead late.
  24. There will also be days when you don't get a lot of hits. In fact, it's easier for players to consistently get walks than to get hits. Average is OK, but above average is better. Above average contact is also good.
