They might make the calculated risk to hold them out. If Montgomery and the pass rush do what they should, you really shouldn’t need either of them to beat a bottom-three team in the NFL.

I agree, I just mean that if the McCaskeys wanted to hire Jim Harbaugh, they would have done it already. I won’t go so far as to say no NFL team will ever hire Jim Harbaugh, but I do think it would have to be the perfect fit of a regime change where the ownership was okay taking a risk and either hiring a pacifist of a GM (or a friend of Jim’s) to work with Jim, or hiring Jim in a Belichick-like role as GM/HC. It’s clear he’s blacklisted by a number of management teams. He’s a winning coach everywhere he goes, he obviously wants a job, but teams won’t even interview him, sans the Vikings and that was a total disaster. The Commanders and Patriots are the only two who I think might fit the bill this coming off-season. Maybe the Chargers.

If Harbaugh was going to the Bears I think he'd already be there (or have been there). I'm not sure where he ends up (if anyone in the NFL ever takes him), but I don't think it will ever be the Bears.

Per Michigan High School seven-official mechanics (I don't know NFL but I believe it is the same despite them having eight officials), the Back Judge (center of field deep defensive backfield) is responsible for the play clock, while the Side Judge (first half visiting side of field deep defensive backfield) is responsible for the game clock. Philosophically, there is a difference. The play clock is given that extra 'beat', the game clock is not. Practically, as has been mentioned, you can't be looking at the ball and the clock at the same time. Depending on the location of the clock though, you should be able to see the clock hit zero and have the offensive players in your periphery. If there hasn't been mass movement in the periphery when you see 0:00, I would think that's probably enough to shut it down. I also feel like this is reviewable. Haven't we seen 4th quarter plays where the team is rushing to spike the ball and it's super close as to whether one second should be left, and that gets reviewed? Maybe I'm imagining it. I don't know why the 4th quarter should be different than the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd though in this regard. Unless they would claim the difference is that one is "whether the incomplete pass was completed with one second on the clock" and the other is "whether there was no time on the clock", though the latter is certainly easier to adjudge.

I don’t think he looked like ****. He had a nice catch in the corner of the end zone for a two-point conversion and a really bad drop that should have been six. There were up and down reports from camp of him having bad days preceded by really good days. Consistent with him figuring it out with bumps in the road. That said, I agree. I don’t need him to be JaMarr Chase and I don’t think those are even fair expectations. I just want him to contribute. At the end of the day, I don’t care if you have 53 first-round picks or 53 undrafted free agents. Just contribute and win. In JaMo’s case, contributing might be being the Mike Williams (LAC) for the Lions offense. As much of a deep threat as a deep weapon. If he only gets two targets in a game but his deep routes are opening up ASB and LaPorta for huge games, that’s great.

I think this is right. He was coming off a serious injury onto a team that was in a playoff push. The next two months will tell us more about Jamo than the last 18 months have.

It’s been four games. I’m not really evaluating any of them, let alone against each other. All I’ll say is that I’m not disappointed in any of our first four picks so far.

You can’t complain with tha results though. Clearly the guys they’re drafting can perform, for whatever reason they’re drafting them.

At the high school level they already have something like that. It goes on the officials’ waist and vibrates at 10 seconds and then continuously from 5 to 0, so when it shuts off they know time is up. At the NFL level I’m not sure why they can’t synchronize something like that with the on-field clock so that there is no looking from zero to ball, it’s just looking at ball, feeling vibration, flag.

It feels like the play clock should just have some sort of buzzer associated with it. Not sure why the shot clock in the NBA is treated so vastly differently than the play clock in the NFL. The whole “40 seconds isn’t really 40 seconds” philosophy of giving them extra time between the back judge seeing zero and looking for the snap never made sense to me. I don’t want that to devolve into five reviews per game though, because usually it’s not an issue. Only when they give them an extra two seconds to setup an NFL record field goal against the Lions. The game clock though, that should just be reviewable. If they can look at a play and adjust the game clock accordingly, they should be able to look at a play for the purposes of the game clock and determine that the snap shouldn’t have occurred. Games shouldn’t last 60:01 because that extra second can make a huge difference.

I just don’t think they thought he was a cultural or character fit. I don’t think Carter would have been the pick even at 33 or beyond.

I firmly believe they wanted Witherspoon with the 6th pick and adjusted when the Seahawks took him. I wouldn’t have liked that pick, but I do think it was their plan. It would make sense that if a next best corner was falling they’d have wanted him at 18.

Part of me wonders if Gonzalez would have been the pick at 18 if the Patriots hadn’t taken him at 17. Which is partially what led to Holmes jumping them for Branch in the second round.

I appreciated that the team wasn’t stubborn about Marvin. Had a bad opener and has fallen off the face of the earth since.

Add this to the rules that screw the Lions before they're changed. What Jamo did will be a two-game suspension moving forward.

It's honestly a very fitting end to a saga that was completely botched by the league from the word go.
