The NFLPA released report cards today for every franchise based off of surveys they had players complete. I’m not sure how much weight to put into it, because I’m sure all sorts of things can influence these results outside of the truth. Lions were ranked 15th of 32. The Vikings came in 1st and the Commanders came in last. Cardinals were 31st.

Could be. He’s a $9.5MM cap savings with a post 6/1 cut, so it would likely depend on how much the regime loves the pick and how much they need the money.

I think he’ll be on the team through April and they’ll decide after the draft what to do with him. A guard in the first three rounds means he’s out. Otherwise crossing our fingers that the back is healed.

I don’t think I’m interested in Bresee before the 2nd/3rd round but I’d be very interested there. He’s got the ceiling to be at a Jalen Carter. He’s just got a very large bust potential too.

I like Wilson a lot, but I think I see a lot of Travon Walker in him. Stare long enough at any prospect (Anderson here, Hutch last year), and you’ll manufacture flaws. Analytics matter, no doubt, but I don’t think they should necessarily overshadow the eye test and statistics. If a team takes Wilson with Anderson on the board, which I think is a distinct possibility, I think they will regret that decision long-term.

How about if they drop to 4 and we jump to 3 and snipe Anderson?

I think Skoronski would make a lot of sense if you don’t love the defensive players there. Immediate plug and play at guard and can move to RT when you move on from Decker. I think it would be a contender for the best offensive line in the NFL, if they can freaking stay healthy.

Richardson makes zero sense for the Colts and I’ve got to toss the rest of that out because of it. It will be really interesting to see how far Carter slides though.

I really doubt it’s a corner at 6 unless the next Sauce Gardner appears in the next month. As of now I just don’t see enough separation between 1-5 and 6-15 at the corner position to justify taking one early instead of waiting until the 2nd round.

I think the interview clip is a nothing burger. They may have decided a month ago they are out on all QBs before the 5th round and want to go after a certain veteran backup who will be available. They’re (smartly) not going to say boo about it publicly. You want the Raiders, Panthers, and Titans to think we might take a QB. If they want one and they jump us for him, hey one more defensive player available.

I agree. I think 2023 is a prove-it year for Goff, whether his long-term deal is here or elsewhere.

As of today, Stroud is the only QB I would consider at 6. Maybe Richardson at 18, but I’m not over the moon about him. Maybe Hooker in the 2nd or 3rd round, need to think more on him.

Goff is probably looking at one more big contract, of which next season will dictate a lot. If he plays out of his mind like he did in the last 10 games last season, it’s not outrageous to think he could get something like 4 years / $150MM. Could he bet on himself, go elsewhere, and still get it? Maybe. Carolina would make sense if he did. But the best odds by far of that happening is in Detroit, in year three with Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, and the offensive weapons here. And if he does it, and then goes elsewhere to get that payday while Detroit goes to a sophomore who backed him up in 23? No skin off Goff’s back.

Hate it when my caps lock gets stuck on. I wouldn’t go on any truther crusade against the authorities in Athens though if I were Carter. Take your misdemeanors with a “yes sir, sorry sir” before anyone gets pissed with you enough to look for a felony. Two people died. This is really bad.

If he did I would take that into account when deciding whether to take a QB. I don’t think he would though. It’s in his best interest to play like a $40MM quarterback next season, so that either the Lions or someone else pays him that much on his next contract. His best chance of doing that is here.

I think you have to learn from the Packers ineptitude. If taking a QB is on the table, I would be up front with Goff about it right now. That Goff is your QB in 2023, and that any QB taken is a development move for the future. If Goff plays how he did in the second half of 2022, there aren’t more than five QBs in the NFL today who would dethrone him, and he knows that.

I think I would want a vet backup if I got Richardson too. If I took either Richardson or Hooker, I think I would announce shortly thereafter that they’ll be a redshirt in 2023 behind both Goff and a veteran backup. Don’t even let the calls for putting the rookie in surface by dressing them.

I don't know enough about Georgia laws and politics of the prosecutor's offices to say for sure, but most common law criminal codes use a but-for causation test. For instance, if the prosecutor could show that but-for Jalen Carter racing and recklessly driving, the driver and passenger of the other car would not have died, then there is a causal showing of Involuntary Manslaughter. I also agree that there are potential charges of the Georgia equivalent to Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident, Making a False Statement to Police, etc... But the Involuntary Manslaughter possibility sticks out to me. I'm sure that similar instances have resulted in more severe charges before.

Also, it's curious they aren't seeking an Involuntary Manslaughter charge based on the facts of the case... If he's guilty of a misdemeanor (racing and/or reckless driving), and in the course of that misdemeanor caused the death of another without intending to do so, that's a mandatory year-long felony. I've seen less get charged more severely.

McShay first reported about character issues regarding Jalen Carter in mid-December. This crash happened in mid-January. Not only was this not what McShay was reporting on, Carter knew that those reports were out there and still chose to partake in this.

Holmes is a master of the nothing-burger answer.

It will be interesting to look back on the trade in five years and view who really won.
