10/10/2025 Tigers @ Mariners 8:08 PM ALDS Game 5
MichiganCardinal replied to oblong's topic in Game Threads
Results of my scientific study on the Tigers chances to win depending on how many runs they score: 0: 0% 1: 5% 2: 15% 3: 50% 4: 75% 5: 90% Bert+: 97% I expect they'll score a very underwhelming 3, which puts it right at 50/50. Skubal will need to excel through 6. Hinch will need to not push him too far how he did last time we were in this position. Unless he is absolutely dealing, 7+ innings is probably pushing it. The bullpen will probably need to get nine outs without allowing three consecutive hard hit balls how they like to do. -

Nationwide yes. Tigers/Jays on FOX would pull eyes away from CBS in the Detroit market. Titans/Raiders would not. -

They're faced with the lesser of two NFL evils. Either all their ratings get sucked away by NBC in Lions/Chiefs, or they lose some money on Titans/Raiders by bumping it in some markets. I think the most money they can make and eyeballs they can get is a 4:08pm start. On FOX in the Midwest and Northeast, FS1 elsewhere. Football fans in the Midwest and Northeast will be watching Bengals/Packers on CBS anyway. -

I had a conference in Chicago I was attending all day yesterday. A coworker told me the score was 3-0 and I figured it was all over but the fat lady's encore. Candidly, I had a gut feeling it was over when they gave up the double to Rodriguez in the 8th inning of game two. I didn't see a path when they choked away Skubal's first start. But like a car accident, I couldn't look away. Kept finding score updates and following inning-by-inning. I hope this ALDS Game #5 turns out better than last year's. -

Normally I would say NFL is king and they won't touch it with a ten-foot pole, but the 4:05 game on FOX is Titans @ Raiders. If they had Bengals/Packers or Bucs/49ers it would be a different story, but both of those are CBS games. They'll either go 8:08 anyway, air Titans/Raiders normally, and try to squeeze some juice out of Sunday Night Football from NBC, or they'll go 4:08 and play market-ball with FOX and FS1 between Titans/Raiders and Tigers/Jays. I think they probably err on the side of the latter. -
They'll have to do something about this. After Stanford fired Troy Taylor in March (after a stellar 6-18 career), Frank Reich was named interim head coach, a position he's held ever since. If it doesn't apply to interims at all, then all the Stanford players would have just been stuck here with Frank Reich, until they eventually make their underwhelming hire.

WTF is this FS2 nonsense? Given a multiple choice question an hour ago of which TV station is real between ESPN3, FS2, Mountain West TV, and Peacock+, I’m not sure I would have guessed FS2. -
The tides are turning… last year, both Reed and Arnold would have been season ending. McNeill would have suffered a setback. Knock on wood but things are looking up. Need to keep it that way.

Super kind. I’m the type to pretty actively avoid confrontation in those situations, but nobody even approached me negatively. When Jake Browning is your QB and the spread is double digits, they knew what they were dealing with coming in. Some of them were even like “you know it’s not as ugly as I expected it might be”

KC got some assistance from the refs to even be in that game. Gift wrapped the ball at the 5 at one end thanks to what seemed to be a pretty obvious DPI. Picked up a flag for what looked like pretty obvious OPI on the other end. KC is beatable.

James Houston is the prototypical one-trick pony. It's a flashy trick though. If you have a roster where you can afford to have a player who is only good for 5-10% of snaps in a game, on 3rd and long and obvious passing downs, then he's great. But he's an absolute liability against the run. Solid rosters aren't going to sacrifice a multi-down depth player who can plug holes to have Houston on the roster. And fans don't get this, which leads to stories like this. Stubborn Matt Eberflus refuses to give Cowboys top performers more snaps

I think in OT Campbell is just the type of guy who is playing for the win no matter what. Getting the ball second means he can finish the game one way or another. If you held them scoreless, go get points. If you held them to a field goal, go get a touchdown. If they scored a touchdown, get your own and go for two. It lets him put the game in the hands of his offense.

I agree with both of these points. I think the Mets are going to back up a Brinks truck. But when the Tigers seem to just want to make Skubal the next Felix Hernandez, it’s just disrespectful to who he is as an all-world athlete. -

I don’t know why Skubal would want to re-sign with the Tigers when this is the offense they put around him. One hit in six innings. Pathetic.
