2022 Detroit Lions Regular Season Thread
MichiganCardinal replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Lions
I think there is some truth to this statement. Not that it’s absolutely true (if the Lions were actually 6-1 I don’t think they make this trade), but I do think that dealing Hock this year was on the radar well before we started 1-6. -
Week Eight: Miami Dolphins (4-3) @ Detroit Lions (1-5)

I don’t doubt the Lions suck, but I can remember Tyreek making at least one contested catch that made me say “there’s Tyreek”. Not sure how accurate this stat is. -
Feels like someone told him "we have the votes"

I agree with this. When the playoff expands, I think there will be more benefit to scheduling more difficult opponents in non-conference play (to distinguish yourself if you finish with two losses). As it stands though, if you have two losses, you’re definitely out. Why risk it against a real opponent when you don’t have to?

I don't understand the rationale of Clemson above Michigan. Win by 6 over Wake Forest in OT and by 6 over Syracuse (in addition to a close call against Florida State), compared to wins by 24 over Penn State and 13 over Iowa. I guess you can call Maryland by 7 a close call, though that score is a bit deceiving to anyone who watched the end of the game. I have to think this is a statement at their weak non-conference schedule. Doesn't matter at the end of the day. They control their destiny. I also think Clemson will almost certainly lose to one (or more) of Notre Dame, Lousiville, Miami, and South Carolina.

I hear this, but how much longer does he get to prove this? He’s in the 5th year option of his rookie deal and we’ve seen him both with Stafford and with Goff; with surrounding weapons and without. I don’t think 10 more games in a lost season is going to tell us anything we don’t already know. -

I think Hockenson will command something in the ballpark of 5 years / $60 million. I think this board would have lost their collective shit had news come out today of that extension rather than this trade. Hockenson isn’t a top-five TE. I think he’s better than league average, but I think a 2nd round CB or LB (like, an actual 2nd rounder not the Lions history of 2nd rounders) is more valuable that that. -

Which of the following are you suggesting we should have done: re-signed him on a long-term top-five money deal, let him go for nothing, or gotten a 6th or 7th round pick? Just so I’m clear. -

That’s a really impressive return for a contract-year TE. Good work by Holmes. -

I think Holmes has a 3+ year plan. Part of that plan is building the offense first, and not making any substantial free agency moves until year three. Which is all fine. That said, the team should still be improving on the whole after 24 games under a coaching regime. That’s not necessarily happening. -

I wouldn’t put a hard and fast limit on it. I think any sign of improvement will be enough. I almost think a private conversation should be held with Holmes (whose job I think is safe) as to how many games he thinks this team should have won. I also wouldn’t put it past this team to string together a few wins to finish out the season the same way they did last year. If the offense and defense both showed up to the same game we may see a repeat of the Cardinals game from last year. -

I was surprised to see Pleasant fired. My immediate reaction is approval though. I think it distinguishes this suck from prior sucks. There is not an attitude of “oh well, we weren’t given anything by Quinntricia”, there is an expectation coming from somewhere in the organization. I also think that Sheila is upset with herself for giving Patricia a third year. I don’t think we finish 1-16. But if we did, I would expect Campbell would be fired, despite the extended timeline he and Holmes were given. -
I don’t think the helmet swinger should have made the trip back to East Lansing with the team. They should have been arrested and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending an arraignment on Monday for a charge of felonious assault. The Michigan players shouldn’t have cut the line, and I’m sure the Big Ten will institute policies about that (probably a suspension for a half if you go in before the all clear, or making game officials stand between the teams until the visitors are completely in). Those bringing that the Michigan players though is just whataboutism. The behavior of MSU players was inexcusable.

Michael Badgley is doing well. Seems a good candidate to cut next training camp.
