Oregon may very well be the best team in the PAC, but that game just goes to show the massive talent disparity between conferences at this point. I don't see any reason why Georgia doesn't return to the playoff though. Florida, Kentucky, and presumably the SEC Championship are all that's left for them in terms of tests. Win 2/3 and you're in.
-
Big Ten is 10-0 now in non-conference games. Doesn't say much given the average level of competition in those games, but still much better than the Pac-12's showing thus far. The SEC is 14-0, naturally.

100% He inherited not only a team, but a college football system, such that he couldn’t *not* succeed. An Ohio State team with no head coach could have done what he’s done the last two years. Here’s hoping it finally catches up to him.

I've liked McCarthy more than I've liked Cade, but it's really difficult to tell when they don't have to open the playbook past page two to put up 51. McCarthy's skill set is likely to make him look better under such circumstances too.

I hope the defensive line can look this good against a real team.

Hardknocks/Preseason Thread - Including OTAs

Is anyone committed to making game threads? Might try my hand at it, but don't care nearly enough if someone else "owns" that role. -
Incredibly overdue in my opinion. This should *finally* add a competitive nature to the sport that it desperately needed. Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State’s fun was driving fans away from the sport, not towards it.

With the change in the tax code under Trump, scholarships and financial aid received for housing was reported as untaxed income. It’s not all scholarships, but that’s a pain for all of us receiving full aid.

The number of Bears fans in the replies that think their team improved this offseason is concerning for their sanity…. Yet also somehow on brand for their fanbase. -
Super Storm (August 28th). Did you lose power?
MichiganCardinal replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
It knocked a few limbs down in Ann Arbor, but doesn't seem like it was quite as bad as it was elsewhere. I noticed one intersection was down the next morning on my walk. We never lost it at the house though. -

I’ve seen as high as 11-6 in the national media. I’m not jump off a cliff crazy about them like that, but I do think there is legitimate reason to be excited. -

Leatherwood is an interesting one. 17th overall pick of the 2021 draft from Alabama and gone after only one year. -

I think the Eagles might be really good this year if Jalen Hurts can even be halfway decent. It's a tough one to start out with, but we should see what they're made out of pretty quickly. -

I was going for us being up 49-0 and there being calls to protect him.... but I guess that works too. 😉 -

If they needed the spot I wouldn’t be opposed. It’s not like I think Seibert is the next Jason Hanson or anything. -

I wouldn’t expect this with the kickers. It’s pretty clear that Seibert is their guy and with the roulette of kickers in this league, I don’t think it’s impossible to think that both Seibert and Patterson could be picked up. Quarterback is more intriguing. I don’t think Boyle has any chance at being picked up by a team right now. Blough probably wouldn’t be either. It probably depends on whether they like Blough more than any random replacement off the street. -
2022-2023 NFL Predictions Thread
MichiganCardinal replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
It may depend on Levi’s spot. If they do plan on placing him on IR after the cut to 53, they will need another DT after that designation is made. They could keep one from the outset (rather than a WR6), or they could cut one of them and hope they clear waivers. With Williams already on the PUP, it’s easier to justify keeping a 6th WR, and allowing Cephus and Benson to continue to compete into the season for the last roster spot whenever Williams is activated (barring another injury). Personally, I don’t think either Cephus or Benson would clear waivers, and a DT6 would be easier replaced from the waiver wire remnants if we didn’t get our cut back on the team. They could go a different route though if they think they have a solid replacement for Levi already on the team and don’t want to chance losing him. -

Levi cannot go on the PUP because he was injured after training camp began. He could only go on IR, but if he went on IR before the cut to 53, he would be required to be on IR for the entire season. If he goes on IR after the cut to 53 (with him on the 53 obviously), he can be reinstated after week four and they could fill his spot from the waiver wire (or practice squad). -

He should continue to get better too. He’s got less than one full game of NFL experience with a good coaching staff, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Achilles isn’t yet truly 100% -
Hardknocks/Preseason Thread - Including OTAs
MichiganCardinal replied to TP_Fan's topic in Detroit Lions
There is definitely not a perfect answer present. I think Boyle might as well have started packing his things when he threw that pick today. Blough is who they’ll keep if they keep one. It might be him to start and then they’ll see if there are any waiver wire surprises. As a backup QB with a healthy starter, there is probably something to be said for your backup being able to know the offense and playbook, and be able to assist the OC and starter in running the offense. Blough has that over any replacement.
