I like how Chicago killed building a museum there but will now build a stadium there.

And one without a roof, so largely useless for anything but football for about 5-6 months out of the year.

  2. Happy Draft Day everybody. I'm going down for all three days. Ford Field season ticket party tonight, tickets by the draft stage tomorrow, and just walking around enjoying the atmosphere on Saturday.

Hopefully those thunderstorms stay away this weekend, everyone plays by the rules, and everything goes swimmingly. The city really doesn't need a Kansas City parade situation on its hands.

PS: If we add a couple more mid-round picks, or maybe even if not... I would hazard a guess that Holmes calculates another risk and is willing to add another RB to the RB room with Benson in the 3rd (only with additional picks) or Corum in the 5th or 6th...

    Just a guess.

When both Montgomery and Gibbs were hurt in the first game against Tampa Bay, Craig Reynolds was the leading back, but could only muster 10 carries for 15 yards.

Granted, part of that is that Tampa has a very good run defense. But also, that's not good enough. At such a fragile position, I'd prefer someone better than Craig Reynolds, even though I know they have said they love him in the locker room.

I don't think it'll happen in the first three rounds. I think they will take the best DB, EDGE, WR, or IOL available with each of those picks. But in the 5th and beyond, when you're just looking for depth, an RB3 would make sense.

Quinn was actually pretty good at drafting offensive linemen. 4/5 of the offensive line last year were Quinn picks.

At least drafting. He also signed Hal Vaitai at 5 years / $45MM to be our starting RT when he had only ever been the backup in Philly. Obviously worked out once the new regime moved him inside to RG, but was still a bad signing in hindsight. He also let Glasgow walk in free agency before the new regime brought him back.

Not surprising results but the percentages open eyes.   1st Rd WR is a really bad bet.

Pretty sure the one center miss was Billy Price, the center taken immediately after Ragnow in 2018. Good thing not even Bob Quinn could screw that up.

It doesn't make sense. The injury was just cover for McVay to bench their expensive franchise QB. Do you think there would ever have been a situation where Stafford was healthy enough to be on the active roster and be the backup but not healthy enough to start over David Blough? An injured Goff is still better than Wolford.

McVay has admitted he made mistakes when Goff was in LA. I don't think it makes a ton of sense, but I understand the logic behind putting an injured QB1 who can still run a limited offense of handoffs and misdirections over putting a QB4 Josh Johnson or Christian McCaffery in at QB like the 49ers had to do last year in the playoffs.

He literally came off the bench in the playoff game to take over for Wolford who got the start.

I don't think you can detach his hand injury from his performance that year and in the playoffs though. Knowing what I know now about Goff, I don't think he was bad, I think he was injured. I think the media certainly played it off as him being just bad. And the Rams did him no favors in that regard, it's pretty clear that they thought he was just bad too.

As for the playoff game, I think McVay, knowing Goff was hurt and already thinking that Goff was just bad, put Wolford in over him, despite Goff saying he could play if needed. So then when they needed him, he went back in, performed poorly, and it just added to the narrative.

  8. I wouldn't forget about Brodric Martin at the DT position. I think his job is more safe than Onwuzurike's at this point, and he's likely a part of their long-term plans in one way or another.

would you go from 29 to 36 for two 4th round picks?

    i wouldnt.

Probably not, but more so because we already have two 4ths next year. If we want a guy like Frazier, I probably would go down seven spots for a 3rd next year.

  10. It’s my draft so Arizona can make any stupid decisions I decide they make. 😉

But the point chart roughly works out. I went between the two 4ths and a 2025 3rd.

    9. Chicago Bears: Troy Fautanu, OT/OG, Washington

Are there any other sources on this outside of Charlie Campbell from Walterfootball?

I haven't looked, but FWIW Charlie Campbell's write-up went beyond that of a simple rumor and came with a direct quote from an NFC executive:

NFL Hot Press: Teams Don’t See Top-10 Talent in Kool-Aid McKinstry

    Charlie Campbell, 5 months ago

Under Nick Saban, the Alabama Crimson Tide program have been a factory for NFL defensive back talent, with a number of cornerbacks going high in the first round of NFL drafts. Given that tradition, many in the media have projected junior cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry to be a top-10 pick next April in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, of the NFL sources from seven different teams who spoke with WalterFootball.com, none of them had McKinstry projected as a high first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. All of them said they thought he would be a late first-round or early second-round pick instead.

At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, McKinstry has good size for the NFL, and he has played a lot over the past three seasons. Sources note that McKinstry is big, has speed, is good in press-man coverage, but he is also rigid and does not have good stop-start quickness or explosion. Hence, McKinstry faces coverage limitations for the NFL. None of the team sources said they believed that McKinstry has the skill set of other recent top-10 cornerbacks like Devon Witherspoon, Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley Jr. or Jaycee Horn.

One NFC director of college scouting told WalterFootball.com

“He is way overhyped and isn’t a top flight athlete …. He knows how to play, but isn’t freaky in any way. His body is odd, like a 40-year old man who works out at the YMCA, and he is a super lazy practice player. He thinks he can just show up and will himself to play because he’s very confident and football-smart. However, the lack of work ethic is showing up and will continue to deteriorate the player he is moving forward. He’s taken a slight step back this year.”

McKinstry did have better production in 2022 compared to what he has done this year. Thus far in 2023, he has 21 tackles and five passes broken up. In 2022, he became a full-time starter and recorded 35 tackles, a sack, an interception and 15 passes broken up. As a freshman in 2021, he collected 26 tackles and an interception.

Each one of the sources shared they felt that the cornerback starting across from McKinstry, Terrion “Ghost” Arnold, is the better pro prospect. Alabama is trying to convince Arnold to return to the program for next year by saying things like he could be a top-20 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with more development and a good season. However, NFL team sources already like Arnold more than McKinstry. McKinstry is being projected as a late first- or second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to a team that likes to play press-man coverage.

Is there any player, realistically speaking, if the Lions took you'd be underwhelmed or disappointed by in the first round?

I'd be pretty meh about any of the IOLmen. I trust Holmes completely, so I wouldn't be upset, but I just don't see any of the Day 1 guards or centers (JPJ, Fautanu, Fuaga) being head and shoulders above the Day 2 guards and centers (Zinter, Barton, Frazier, Beebe, Robinson, etc.).

The first pictures of the actual sign were before any secondary work they did on it. I see they've added a small fence and some lighting. It's the process, as usual most people don't understand

It looked like some mulch was added around the letters too today which was a nice touch.

I heard they're adding WCF to helmet.

I looked it up, it'll be a decal on the helmet. One step closer to not referencing him at all, and at least when I purchase a jersey it won't be defaced with the initials.

I really hated that if you can't tell.

Did they do away with "WCF" on the sleeve? Looks like just the Nike swoosh now.

Sure looks like it, which automatically makes this jersey upgrade a win.

  17. I'm thinking of getting ASB in white, Hutch in black, and Goff in blue... If Jamo switches to #1 I may consider him in blue or black too.

I would bet that for all the strong feelings about it in both directions, the black will be the best selling of the three.
