The children running across the field at Comerica yesterday has generated more news in my timeline than any Tigers story in maybe the last three years. Ilitch is going to be paying kids to run across the field at this rate.

Detroit Lions 2024 Offseason Thread

Andre Szmyt is still available too if they want to go back to the UFL well. He was overshadowed by Bates, but he went 19/21 with a long of 61 on the Battlehawks, which is actually better than Bates' 17/22... Sdmyt's misses were from 53 and 45. He's also 6'1" / 200, so at least on paper he should be able to be productive in the kickoff game. I have no idea how to even attempt pronouncing his name though, so that's a point deduction. -

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lions bring in Randy Bullock for some veteran camp competition. I'm pretty sure he knows Dan Campbell from Texas A&M connections and he was here for a training camp stint in 2021. He went 5/6 with a long of 56 last year on the Giants and 10/10 on extra points before he got hurt. Brandon McManus is available too, but the Lions probably don't want to deal with the baggage that comes with that signing. -

That’s too bad for Badgley. I’ll never forget exclaiming “I didn’t know he could do that!” When he kicked a 54-yard field goal against the Rams. -
The more I think on the Hillary vs. Clinton issue, I agree. Someone who wanted to distinguish and be respectful would say "Secretary Clinton". No one was getting confused in October 2016 who you were talking about when you said "Clinton". And Hillary is not an indistinguishable name like Kamala that I think is akin to Prince, Cher, or Bono... There was also the whole social media movement calling her "Killary".
-
I appreciate it. I think you're right about Hillary. That may have been in good nature as well by some to distinguish her from Bill, but I agree that others (particularly on the right) used it to diminish her and make her a "lesser than". And I think you're totally right about Pelosi. I hear and appreciate your perspective, particularly in the third paragraph. I'll try to be more conscientious about my use.
-
I have often said Kamala here and haven't meant anything by it. It's one of those names that carries weight on its own. Madonna, Adele, Drake, Cher, Eminem, Prince, and Kamala.
-
If Kamala has cats, I want to meet them. I have no interest in meeting JD Vance's children.

Can’t wait until Brad Allen gets assigned a game at Ford Field. We’ve got looooooooooong memories, buddy

I think the top five is probably right but I would have a different order. I think I’m (1) Eberflus, (2) Allen, (3) McCarthy, (4) Saleh, (5) Sirianni. I think any of the five could be fired mid-season if they are dwindling from contention. The Bears never fire mid-season, but I think Eberflus is a terrible coach so they’re an exception. If they go below .500 and Williams is developing like he’s the next awful QB in the Bears lineage, Eberflus will be gone. Allen is not a good coach but they never really gave him a chance by hitching him to Derek Carr. They’ll likely flounder again this year and he’ll be gone if they don’t make the playoffs. McCarthy is probably gone for anything short of an NFC Championship Game appearance, and the Cowboys are not a top four team in the NFC, so I don’t see that happening. I don’t think it’s Belichick’s landing spot though. Jerry wants a yes man. Saleh is just hitched to Rodgers for better or worse. They’ve sold their soul to the dude. If he makes a miraculous comeback from an experimental Achilles surgery on the wrong side of 40, Saleh is safe. Otherwise, the divorce from the Rodgers era may not be pretty. Sirianni might look like a silly addition on this list if the Eagles figure out whatever the heck happened down the stretch last season. To start 10-1 and finish 1-6 with a first round exit is embarrassing. They have the talent to go 14-3 and return to the Super Bowl, so if they fall flat down the stretch again this year he’ll have to answer for it. I think Giants leadership understands this is a rebuilding year, but they’re going to need to answers and a direction next offseason. If they’re a top three pick I think they’ll go in a different direction than Daboll with the new QB. I don’t think McDermott’s seat is particularly hot unless they completely collapse or he loses the locker room. He can’t beat the Chiefs but it doesn’t seem like anyone can right now. Didn’t Stefanski just win COTY? Gannon I agree. Quinn’s tenure will be defined by Jayden Daniel’s’ development. If he looks like Bryce Young, he could be a one and done. Speaking of Bryce Young, I would add Dave Canales. Their ownership sucks so bad in Carolina that he might get fired for not making wine from sewage water with the QB situation.

I purchased my new jerseys today... Hutch in black, Goff in blue, and the beast himself Giovanni Manu in white. -
It's like a game day thread but the game never ends and sometimes people will say stuff like "but the Packers mean well".

I can't decide on my choice of overreaction: "Giving up on Manu already!?" "The final piece!" "WHO'S HURT" -
I always wondered who the drunk uncle of the Biden family was.
-
I'm not sure if calls were necessarily made, but I think Biden himself made sure of it by effectively pledging a hundred million dollars and a fully staffed campaign to her 107 days before the election and just a few weeks before ballots are being printed. None of Whitmer, Newsome, or anyone else for that matter had the infrastructure or means that would have been necessary to even mount an attempt at that point. And to try and fail is a surefire way to commit career suicide at the national level.
-
I'm surprised that the party rallied around Kamala so quickly. Before Biden dropped out, most of the yells were simply "NOT BIDEN", rather than any actual nuanced evaluation of the pros and cons of Biden vs. [Insert replacement here]. I think that's a credit to Biden and how he went about dropping out. One statement bowing out immediately followed by one endorsing Kamala, before anyone could get a breath out in reaction to his dropping out. Give someone a couple hundred million dollars of a head start and the endorsement of the sitting President, and it will be hard if not impossible for any serious competitor to gain traction 100 days out. Rather than chaos begetting chaos (which is what I feared would happen), the chaos lead to a collective "fair enough" shrug at the endorsement of Kamala. Which brought with it unity in the party.

I'll admit that Love worries me. He was great down the stretch last season, and if that becomes the status quo, they'll have seriously done it again. But, it's not a given. As you said, QBs come on the scene, look like the next great thing, and then fizzle out all the time. Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez, and Rex Grossman all won playoff games too and were believed to be the next big thing by their franchises at one time. Lucky for those teams though, they didn't have to make a long-term commitment to those guys. Because they were smart enough not to draft four years ahead. -

Based on this, I think it's going to get done within the week. More likely he doesn't want to risk a freak injury occurring and costing him tens of millions. I agree though that anything bad for the Packers is good for us. I hope talks deteriorate. I'll also lol if Love gets more money than Goff. -

It would be shockingly delusional, even for them, if they thought this was true. The election was going to be won - by either side - by <3% in about five states. That was the case Saturday and it's still the case today. Kamala has a better chance of accidentally flipping Texas than Trump ever has of a 2008 looking map.
-
It'll be a double standard though. Just like it was in 2016 and 2020. Trump can grab them by the pussy, Harris will be expected to be perfect.
-
Harris had issues with work environment earlier in Biden's term IIRC. It was mostly just tabloid fodder for the NY Post and Daily Mail, and it went away in time, but this could come up in the next three months. Politico, BBC.
-
Last night he called it a "two-man race" (intentionally a slight at Harris) and said he was the only candidate who could beat Trump. So I doubt it.
-
Well as long as we are withdrawing from jobs were weren't being considered for, I guess I will too. MichiganCardinal will not be serving as Harris' Secretary of State.
