This makes me think of the Trey Lance situation. I can't believe the 49ers are surviving the debacle of their massive trade up to get him, his inability to beat out Garoppolo, them hanging Jimmy G out to dry then having to go crawling back to him when Lance went down after a few inauspicious starts, then having Mr. Irrelevant bail them out, looking like the second coming of Tom Brady. Are you kidding me? The ghost of Bill Walsh is up there calling in favors.

I was told Dan Campbell was a terrible game manager.
-
Yeah the Vikes spend too much money on that defense for there not to be a scapegoat.
-
But if the lions trade up into the top 10 for a running back we can’t live without your hot takes!
-
Is this a ghost pun?
-
Yep. If they had backed into the 2nd or 3rd pick, and Bryce Young was on the board… YOLO 🤷🏻♂️ OTOH Campbell has expressed his desire for a QB who can make plays with his feet. If Richardson is still on the board late in the second round it wouldn’t totally surprise me if they picked him and put him in some Taysom Hill-type packages.

It’s possible that the Super Bowl will match up the Eagles and the Bills. The Goffense put up 60 points combined against them. The defense gave up 856 combined yards. Where is the team more likely to improve? Yes, defense, so you put your assets there.

I thought Mayo was working on a deal that would make him heir-apparent in NE. Anyway there are a lot of offensive wizards out there. Yes Johnson is hot, but so are OCs of a bunch of teams still alive in the playoffs.

Have we ended up in some parallel universe where all of the surprising Lions news is good? I’m thrilled that he is staying but the skeptic in me assumes his agent got word that he was behind a lot of other guys. The Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers have interviewed or requested to interview their interim coach Steve Wilks along with Sean Payton, Mike Kafka, Shane Steichen, Frank Reich, Kellen Moore, Ken Dorsey, and Jim Caldwell. I’m sure there is a lot of truth to what he said about the direction of the franchise but there are also a lot of equally hot candidates out there and a few wild cards. If he can put one more year of production on his resume — with Jaymo at 100% — his star will continue to rise.

I’ve been reading Campbell’s takes on Robinson too. He says seven NFL scouts claim that Robinson is the ONLY elite talent in the draft. (I’m not saying this is true, but he says it.) I would cringe if they pick a RB at six, but if they pick this RB at 18 and high five each other like when they got Sewell and Jaymo then LFG. I have seen a few mocks where Robinson lasts into the second round.

Didn’t he play under Lloyd Carr!?!

Hock has been Minnesota’s best player today.

FWIW I'm not saying Johnson shouldn't be interviewed or even hired. I can see why a GM or owner might think, "This guy got more out of Goff than Sean McVay." If McVay is your point of comparison, and Johnson compares favorably to him, I can see why you'd roll the dice, knowing that this is the only way to pry Johnson from Detroit. Sheila (probably under the influence of Spielman) took a different approach. She didn't hire a brainy coordinator to be head coach. Instead she hired someone with the personality and experience to lead men and represent the franchise. Maybe Johnson has that. Maybe he can develop it over time. And if he gets hired away I hope he succeeds. Anyway, even if he gets a job as an NFL head coach and fails at it, the going rate for a first time head coach is around four years/$5 million per, so he would walk away from his "failure" with $20 million.

Most fans don't watch the Lions. We watch the Lions and know they've turned a corner, so it didn't seem like an upset to us. It was more of a coming out party. -
I agree and if I were an owner I would not hire him. It is hard to imagine a guy with one year of experience as a coordinator being prepared to be the face of a franchise. Related, Sheila didn’t hire DC because of his Xs and Os. Nobody ever said or thought DC was a hot coaching candidate. But he oozes leadership. He has been an incredible face for the Lions franchise.
-
DC is way smarter than he looks. If he turns the Lions into a Super Bowl winner his fame will transcend football.

Elite level athletes, and dawgs. Is Bijan Robinson a dawg? He is certainly en elite athlete and a three-down player. But if he got that dawg in him he might be a Lion with pick 18.
-
Don’t forget this front office traded up to pick a WR largely on the strength of his special teams tape. Yes Jaymo can fly, but Holmes said something like “He got that dawg in him.” So if someone ranks prospects by how much of that dawg they got in them, I’d like to see it.

It’s not just the players, it’s that Brad Holmes has absolutely crushed two drafts. Legitimately eight starters/regular contributors in two drafts and five more who could turn into good players. If he continues to be able to draft starters in rounds 3 and after, there is no ceiling for this franchise. It really is astonishing the talent he has brought in, with another massive opportunity to draft this spring. -

He will break Jamaal Williams’s TD record next season. 😉 -

I agree. Every team in the NFC playoff field is breathing a sigh of relief that Seattle got in and not Detroit or AA-rod. -
