  1. Too late to establish the run. Time to start chucking it.
  2. The most regrettable decision was the long field goal in the first Minnesota game. It was not an easy call, but you hope your kicker can make a 54 yard FG in a dome. And, frankly, how do you know if you can trust your kicker if you don't put them in that situation? You wouldn't want to put the whole game on your kicker's shoulders either, so you test him like this when you have the lead. Unfortunately he missed (and got cut). Even though we can wish Campbell went for it, the real scapegoat in this situation was the secondary who gave up 56 yards and a TD in two plays. Anyway, Campbell deserves to be at the top of every coach of the year ballot, and if he coaches the Lions to a Super Bowl victory he will become a coaching legend. Sheila and Rod and Chris Spielman nailed it with him, despite all of the complaining that they should have hired a GM and let the GM hire his coach.
  3. Would be hilarious to send the Vikes home. I’m guessing the Lions would like another shot at Philly.
  4. I was cringing too, but it worked. After the game, Fipp made the point that based on their film study and prep, plays like this may not be nearly as risky as they appear. The thing with Campbell is he could have gone into a shell after some of the criticism he received. He didn't. That took guts. Also, Fipp hints that Campbell is smarter than he lets on. These risky calls may not be fueled by bravado but by calculation.
  5. If people are going to blame DC for losing games, how about some credit for winning games? Fake punt from their own 25 in a 7-point game against the division leader? If they get that wrong, the Lions may have lost the game.
  6. Are you the one he said could come fight him?
  7. Ditka was a former tight end with a larger than life personality who became an icon that transcended the NFL. My initial post was a joke, but Campbell has two of those three boxes already checked. If he takes the Lions to their first Super Bowl victory, he might check the third.
  8. All I ever wanted was for the Lions to be coached by the second coming of Mike Ditka, and now it is happening before my very eyes.
  9. Dan Campbell’s Lions will never lose again. Book it. 😝
  10. There is a buzz around the Lions. Also Campbell gives the networks some confidence that the Lions won’t lay an egg in a prime time slot. If I had to bet I’d guess the Lions get two prime time games next year. PS: If the Rams had done a bit better, or the Lions a bit worse, there was a chance the Lions would host Stafford. But Seattle looks more likely as the NFC West opponent.
  11. Impressive defense. Good job by Campbell and Johnson of protecting Goff from it. 20% of Goff's passing yards came on the one big play.
  12. Sauce Gardner played 66 snaps. The Lions did not throw his way once. Wouldn't it be nice to have a CB on the Lions who could earn that kind of respect?
  13. Has there been a single week since Brady became a starting QB over two decades ago when the Lions have had a better record than Brady's team has?
  14. It's pulling plays like that 4th and inches out of his back pocket that gets people talking. He's done that frequently this season. On the broadcast the analysts were saying that other coaches talk about how there are a few plays each week that he dials up that they have no film of. (Perhaps if he calls plays for another season he'll run out of concepts that he's showing for the first time.)
  15. Panthers, Colts, probably Cardinals, maybe Texans, Broncos, possibly a wild-card team. As hot of a target Johnson might be, he only has one year of play calling experience. That would be a red flag. Not saying owners don't hire past red flags all the time, but the HC role is a major jump from calling plays.
  16. If Johnson goes, one of Staley, Engstrand, or Brunell will stay and take the OC role. (I don't know if any of them is capable, but there is a buzz around Engstrand recently.) Also, DC is now known around the league as a coach's coach. Lots of talented guys around the league will want to work for him as he is likely to start his own coaching tree.
  17. Campbell and Johnson protected Goff today. He got to uncork one deep shot and underthrew Jaymo by a yard. The 4th and inches play design was genius.
  18. Where’s the Panthers game thread I’m pumped and ready to start posting. 😂
  19. Great win on the road against a team that was 7-6 despite having bad QB play. Jets defense is good but the Lions did not beat themselves.
  20. Still an uncomfortable amount of time.
