So with todays rain delay  I was surfing games on my MLB subscription and came across the Texas - Rays game where Wayne Langford is already starting and starring for the Rangers. Moments later Issac Parades cranked a 3 run homer and I couldn't help but wonder how good we would be TODAY is we hade kept Parades and drafted Langford. Then I felt sad which is no way to feel with so much going well for the Tigers. So I am asking the board for some consolation. Forget about Parades it's been beat to death but did we/Harris over think by not taking Clark ?

Hoping to hear some good news that Clark/McGonigle ( taken with $$ saved passing on Langford) will prove to be better than Langford ( who seems to be Kirk Gibson energy) . Cheer me up please !

They have 3 night games scheduled in New York? In early April? And it's going to rain all 3 days. Some real thinking went into that schedule making. Real geniuses.

Our weather has been wacky here for the last three months

Says it's gonna rain and it's sunny, says sprinkle and it 9 inches. Says sunny and it's out of nowhere wind.

TBF, maybe the MLive people are expressly looking for angles that will give them something different in their coverage than just duplicating exactly what is already being reported in the DetNews and Freep. IDK if ex-tigers is a particularly effective implementation of that kind of strategy but I can see it might be a deliberate effort to get outside what's already available elsewhere.

Just a guess they changed the headline on wire angles and reworked the top slightly if at all.

Make it seem new/relevant without really doing much.

OK - that's an interesting angle. While Tony remains the friend of the proletariat....

yeah the main issue is the lower-tier guys think they are getting frozen out. Meanwhile the Boras type guys ( in theory the top teir free agents) do just fine.

So they are targeting the pal who did the last deal with hopes the new guy better takes care of the younger players.

Kind of an odd story in DetNews today that the players - unhappy about the way FA has gone this year, were agitating not to replace Tony Clark, but for Clark to replace his number two guy. It's a 'who cares' issue but still an odd dynamic.

The guy they are trying to oust negotiated their last deal with MLB. There are some things, despite approving it, players are now upset about. Take for example, the arbitration salaries not being guaranteed and what happened to Davis.

There is now a croup trying to push to replace No. 2 with the young guy who handled the MiLB deal with owners.

No, the Lions aren't legally guilty of anything. But public opinion =/= legal standing. If the court of public opinion says Sutton is guilty and a despicable person, the Lions be keeping him on the roster are also guilty (in the court of public opinion) by not disassociating themselves.

Depends on if they are only paying him in season or if it's split over 12 months. My wife, a teacher, gets paid year round even though she only teaches ~9months.

They are paid 18 times a year after each week.

You're conjecturing a lot of things here... We don't know what the police have or haven't done to try to contact him. Are they just calling his cellphone? If it's an unknown number I don't usually pick up when I get a call. Did the police contact his agent or the Lions to ask if they could get them in touch with him? If so, did the agent or the Lions contact Sutton and he still didn't contact the police? I'm loath to take drastic action without proof of guilt.

What the NFL needs to do (and other sport too) is have an "administrative leave" sorta situation where a team can put a player on this list. During that time the players paychecks go into escrow and the player is not considered as on the roster. This would let teams evaluate what's going on without penalty to them or the player until the facts are confirmed.

    A) Do you think the police just try to call once don't leave a message and then be like oh well time to go to social media?

    B) the nfl has an exempt list like all other leagues.

By the time it would go to trial we are already into the season unless he takes a plea deal. Reading from trusted sources, this situation does not sound good. I would not be surprised if he never plays for the Lions again.

He doens't have to be convicted to use the out.

    Players convicted of a crime or subject to a disposition of a criminal proceeding (as defined in this Policy) are subject to discipline. But even if the conduct does not result in a criminal conviction, players found to have engaged in any of the following conduct will be subject to discipline. Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to the following: ▪ Actual or threatened physical violence against another person, including dating violence, domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of family violence;

I wonder if he knew he would be immediately named as the backup.

Bears should have just waited until the fall. When a QB went down in week two, they could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.

No. He went for a sixth. That is how the league views him. An injury doesn't make him a 2 magically. If a team has an injury they would just go sign a david blough. That is how little the league views of him.

I'd really like to see a guard signed before the draft because I really don't think Holmes drafts for need. I suspect it plays some part in his picks, but only a small part. If there's a RB at 29 that is head and shoulders above everyone else on their board, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Holmes draft him.

Bunch of borderline veteran  starter/backup guards still out there. I imagine they will sign one of em

So here's a purely thought experiment question... If a player is coming off an injury and knows that teams will want to do a medical work up on him... could he get a medical work up done on is own dime, and publicly release it?

I mean I think any team would dumb to rely solely on that, but it might the negotiation process go quicker if a team could see a medical report before the legal tampering period started. They could see the report and go: "Fine, we'll assume for negotiation that this is correct but obvious we have a line in the contract that we want our own docs to look you over before the contact is binding."

Team isn't gonna trust anyone but their doc.

Makes sense, they earned it. They originally signed six year contacts in 2021, and this is only adding a year, through 2027. So it's likely more of a raise than it is a one-year extension for four years from now.

Is this the first Lions coach to get a second contract since Wayne Fontes?

    earned It?

Ha. What a joke. They haven't even made a super bowl and we're giving them more years to be fat cats and complacent.

(Ok I'm ready for my turn on 97.1 where callers make this board look sane)

Like I said numerous times, they are establishing one and will start getting a reputation. That's four players in two years and three originally signed by Holmes.

I linked several 49ers who faced the same situation, including a coach who got fired.

I never heard one person, nadda, ever refer to a reputation for them.

Armstead is the 2nd highest cap hit for the 49ers who are projected to be over the cap. They had to make a move. The Lions are well below the cap and asking players who they just signed to small contracts to take pay cuts. I'm surprised the NFLPA doesn't say something.

The Lions have nearly $30 million in cap space even with the Carlton Davis $14 million cap hit but it was really important to get that extra $2 million in space from Cominsky.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should spend/overpay for pretty much anything in life.

    That's financial management 101
