  1. The problem is sure Tucker hasn’t been meh it’s that deal doesn’t handcuff them at all. All 29 other teams would have a bad contract and be a bit tight to hand out another, not the dodgers.
  2. 500 some odd million in revenue. it’s fine to admit that you were wrong. He does have business interest. They’re payroll is that because attendance is low, tv is little and he not a multi billionaire
  3. Except that media empire
  4. Yes thats often forgotten. While baseball is a bit different than other sports (like in the NBA we need a point guard you trade for a poing guard, basbeall is more just take the best cause they are prospects) it does play a part. Harris valued SP for next year as part of the deal. All these about the brewers deal just ignore that. Getting A ball outfeilder doesn't help solve that prolem.
  5. His last substantial minor league time was a sub 2 era, 1 whip at 10 and 2 so:bb. All that while being four years younger than average for the league. Thats not amazing?
  6. Full year and the team that got him could have offered a QO
  7. In the greatest double cross since Thomas Stanley, Skubal serves meatballs to Detroit allowing a WS win then resigns with the Tigers. Hope, Skubal and a World Series win. It's will be talked about for the ages
  8. Pool would go hope cause it’s all based on picks you have but the idea is getting a more project able piece than draft. Tigers think they can still complete so if you get a guy in aa today that is more projects or than a guy who will start two levels lower three years from now
  9. Yeah but how many would have made it with the expanded playoff we have today? A bit of an apple to oranges comparison
  10. MLB deals rarely get that complicated
  11. One is a FA after the season. One is not.
  12. i dont think its that black and white What your post leaves out is the potential of getting good players that could help in a year or five. While that is not always the outcome, that is the thought. Ok player X is goinng to leave cause i cant afford, is it the best ROI to try this year or get more bodies for a future run
  13. Never seen an auction before huh?
  14. Thats not how on background or unnamed or journalism works
  15. Not always sometimes just rushing to remove people isn’t the right move either. Anybody in management knows that. I think it’s a bit of yzerman being burned out and not giving 100 and illitch seeing the offseason and seeing no attempts to improve or move forward and saying enough. Anybody available now would be available next offseason and it’s unlikely someone like say Nill we be more available. So he made the move now to give the new person a year to figure it out and come into next offseason with a way to move forward
  16. A) that’s only true if the team spends the rest b) it artificially suppresses the market. Team can go well wemby is getting paid x why should we pay you, player who is less good, x plus. Basically sports unions want to push as many teams to the cap, so owners will be ok with the cap to go up just for teams to do anything, thus raising the overall pay scale for all players. Instead, of discount today to help sign more guys under the current cap so owners feel no need to raise it. c) it undermines unions and the thing they fight for. Owners: Oh you got guys take discounts? Well no reason to change arbitration it’s clear your members don’t care or think the current pay structure is fine - that kinda of thinking scare unions d) from a union perspective they want max contracts for all players all the time. They don’t want lesser players thinking they need to take less. Most guys get one maybe two contracts that they are gonna have to live off of for 60 years. They drill in players heads to make as much cause it the scheme of things it’s short lived and to earn as much as you can. e) the world changes. Back in the 90s we thought guys were making tons. Take for example grant hill. He made $120 some odd million his career. While I’m sure he’s not hurting, Duran is gonna make that in what two years? Cost go up and you never know what a dollar is worth so make as much as you can today cause in 55 years who knows what it will be worth. Your thoughts make sense in a vacuum or a video game. From a fan perspective it makes sense. But there are real world implications in leaving money on the table.
  17. Um not true at all
  18. I like this thread. Our own players suck and everybody else in the league is awful
  19. I don’t think you make that argument since he was arrested what four days ago. Not effing around or sending a decisive message would have been that day or the next. they released him cause he got let out on bail and they didn’t want him at their facility
  20. That's not true for the good ones.
  21. I went to get my looting gear yesterday. I'm ready to get me something good
  22. To be fair, CVS has decorations up by Halloween
