  1. Actually, I thought his cap management in Detroit was a bigger disaster (Nielsen, Abdelkader, Dekeyser etc. etc.). His cap management still blows in Edmonton (took on Keith at full salary which was crazy and gave Darnell Nurse elite Dman money at $9m+) but a lot of his signings are sure paying off in the short term but long term might be sketchy. The drafting has actually been good so far, the Oilers system hasn't been this loaded in years but remains to be seen until they have NHL success.
  2. I thought he played pretty well with Cade and Bey before he got "injured", seemed to be learning to defer more as Cade took on more on ball responsibilities. I like Grant the player, I loathe the idea of Grant the contract extension.
  3. As a longtime Oilers fan, I'm enjoying the hell out of this playoff run. Kind of weird to see my team playing games through Memorial Day weekend, only the 2nd time that's happened in my Oilers fandom (2006 being the other). Oddly enough, a lot of Ken Holland's moves (to make it Red Wings relevant) that looked questionable earlier in the season are looking golden right now.
  4. I think you meant to say that Portland isn't trading #7 for Grant. I'm sure Troy would consider it although I bet that he values Grant higher than us fans do.
  5. My question with Murray is fit. Since I highly doubt that they trade Grant, I don't see where Murray fits in the Pistons lineup. Bey isn't a 2 and Murray isn't a 3 so not sure how that shuffle works. If they do take Murray, I'd assume that Grant is as good as gone unless they plan to start Murray off the bench which I suppose is possible.
  6. And they don't need another guard, seems like a weak rumor to me. I do think the Kings are a prime candidate for a trade down though which will obviously impact the Pistons. I could see Indiana being interested to get a shot at the hometown kid Ivey to pair with Haliburton, with the rumors also being that they might very well trade Brogdon. I just have a feeling that something unconventional will happen with the Kings pick because.... Kings.
  7. I suppose that could be the case but still don't think Grant holds that type of value even if an extension was agreed to. Agreed entirely with your 2nd sentence. I'm not even sure that Weaver would entertain trading Grant for #7 even if it was offered. I think he loves Grant a lot more than the fans do, I think he sees him as a core piece.
  8. I could easily see Sacramento taking Murray. They're guard heavy so I'd be surprised if they took Ivey (who is basically a poor man's Fox) or Sharpe but maybe I'm wrong. The Kings are the type of franchise that I could see reaching for somebody like Duren.
  9. I'd be really surprised if he was traded but I'm ready to be surprised. Portland not moving up does increase the slim chance of it happening but I doubt they offer up a pick that high for a pending UFA.
  10. They won Cade last year who is a good deal better than any prospect in this draft. The Pistons are the big winners by getting Cade alone.
  11. Meh, I'm fine with it. Would have preferred top 3 but I don't see much of a spread between 1-6 in this draft. The biggest takeaway to the Pistons not finishing top 3 is that they are likely in the market for a big man now and are likely out on Brunson if they don't take Murray. Hoping for Sharpe or Mathurin, would be ok with Murray or even Ivey.
  12. He's obviously a skilled guy but this video really displays nothing. I don't know if I'd call this putting on a "show" playing one on one with the rim.
  13. I'm not nearly as invested into this lottery as I was last year. Last year, there were 3 must have prospects at the top of the draft with Cade being the most must have. This year, I like the potential of some of the 2nd tier guys just as much as the top guys (Sharpe and Mathurin namely) so if the Pistons fall to 5 or 6 I'm ok with it. Of course, I prefer 1-3 but it's not nearly as much of a necessity as it was last year.
  14. I think it's far more likely that they extend him. I don't think Weaver is interested at all in trading him, it seems to be a case of him willing to listen to offers but will only pull the trigger if an offer blows him away. I think he sees him as a core player based on what we hear about how much he values Grant from a culture standpoint.
  15. I really like these later round picks. Mitchell would have gone higher if not for his injury and they badly needed a tight end and Rodriguez is small but he's athletic and is pretty good in coverage. Big fan of the Joseph pick last night. They needed a playmaker at safety alongside Walker who is more of a thumper and Joseph is a ball hawk. I think Holmes is slaying this draft. I hope they take a chance on Carson Strong with one of these two picks. He has arguably the strongest (pun intended) arms in the draft. The issue is mobility and potential chronic knee issues but in the 6th/7th, why the hell not?
  16. Potentially serious knee injury and he's really short. I still would have taken the chance on him though
  17. I don't know much about Paschal but he was getting a lot of 2nd round buzz late in the process so we'll just have to trust the scouting on this one. I like that they're building the lines at least.
  18. It was a 1 year contract and Williams has separation speed that Chark can only dream of having. Chark is more of a "contested catch" guy.
  19. That's fair and your point about finding good receivers lower in the draft is a valid one but Williams has special talent. He's a taller, thinner Tyreke Hill basically. The separation he gains on the regular is incredible and he did this against high level NFL talent, just shredded Georgia when he played them. You have a chance to get premier talent like that, you go get him.
  20. It's not a luxury pick when you have a desperate need for a gamebreaker. Williams was arguably the biggest gamebreaker of this draft offense and defense included and they did it for a relatively cheap price. Maybe they could have taken somebody like Hamilton with the trade up but I don't see him as a big game changer like Williams has the potential to be.
  21. Most of the media is gushing a about the Lions draft (and the New York teams, rightfully so) so that means only one thing... that Hutchinson and Williams will bust.
  22. It was reported that he was well ahead of schedule with his recovery which is why he was shooting up mock draft boards the last several weeks. Apparently, he could be good to go as early as Training Camp although these situations are fluid so we'll see.
  23. Yes, you're correct. Filed into the large list of Lion fuck ups regardless.
  24. Laken Tomlinson, or was it Cherilus that they traded up for. One of those guys
  25. It's not Cine and Dean vs. Williams. It's Cine and Dean vs. Williams and whoever they pick at 46. Hell, if they get Dean at 46, it could be Williams and Dean. Unlikely, but a man can dream. That's what made this trade so lopsided, the 2nd coming back from the Vikings. It's essentially 12+46 for 32+34 which alone is a win for the Lions so Holmes basically added a 3rd to move up 20 spots in the 1st round. There was a team that added two 4ths and a 5th just to move from 15 to 13. Think about that for a minute. That's an absolute steal valuewise especially for a team that needs starpower, dynamic playmakers.
