because trammell plays shortstop and miggy plays dh.

maybe i should have said position player and not "hitter"?

Yes, that is a big clarification.  As a hitter I have a hard time saying anyone but Cobb and maybe Greenberg.

Some of those 60 Day IL guys will be staying there as well for at least part of 2023 as well (Mize, Skubal).

It would seem like they'd have enough room for the must adds and a couple of the fringey guys once they cull the chaff of the current roster (ie. Short, Cameron, Clemens, Davis, Castillo, Hutch would be my guess, but the team may have different ideas)

Players are removed from the 60 day IL at some point after the season can't be put back on until sometime around spring training - in other words, they will count against the 40 man for the Rule 5 status.

Notre Dame is going where the money is best.   They aren’t going anywhere until the money from a conference is more than what they can make on their own.  It doesn’t look like this is going to happen any time soon.

They already would make more money by joining the Big 10.  I think it’s inevitable they do, the question is when.

From Nolan Bianchi and Justin Rogers of Det News (taken from the article above) . . .

Okudah had the roughest day amongst a cornerback group that got beat early and often. He made just one pass breakup and was burned for a handful of touchdowns and big gains. And it wasn’t just that he was getting beat — that happened to Amani Oruwariye plenty, as well, which we’ll get to in a second — but rather there was a concerning trend of Colts receivers easily getting separation and turning medium gains into long gains.

    see above..

Today was supposedly much better for Okudah and the rest.

Dingler and Crouch should be moved up a level each...and maybe Wenceel.  Sad that you really can't find position players beyond those guys that warrant it right now.

I sure do hope they can fix Tork.  Missing on 1:1 can really F up your rebuilding timeline

P Meadows also could also be close.  Colt Keith likely would have been at AA if not for his injury.  Most of the other guys that were due to be moved up were about 2 weeks ago when this years draft picks joined.

Notre Dame has to bring in lights, correct?  So, maybe they get one or two games at home.  A few more night games on the road, especially the trips west to USC and Stanford.

    ND does have permanent lighting.

disagree here. The 'science' is completely settled. What remains is that nothing in life is absolute - but that is true of *everything*. It's true every time you walk out the door of your house, get in your car, step off the curb. The 'science' is that the COVID vaccine represents no excess risk compared to virtually anything else we do in life everyday. You might as well decide to refuse to drive or take any of the drugs in your medicine cabinet, eat a vegetable, or go for walk. Any of these things might hurt you because of some odd confluence of rare circumstances, but they are risks we normally assume because otherwise life is paralysis. The COVID vaccine is exactly the same in that regard.

Agree completely as is the risk of getting COVID or another virus/illness.  Each person has their own risks they are willing to take.

I don't want to get this into the political forum, was just responding to the wishing ill to teams/players that chose not to get the vaccine when we don't know what reasons they may have for it and they know the consequences it has on them and their teams.

It isn't the Cardinals so much, but two of their best offensive players that think they know more than doctors and scientists and have decided to skip the trip instead of being good teammates and just getting vaccinated.     Their choice, but their anti-vax reasoning is probably based in some kind of conspiracy belief or political stance.  People like this continue to hold us back overall.    Selfish.

The reason I want Tyler Bertuzzi traded.   Every other NHL player has gotten the vaccine.  Have any died?    Of course, his traded value is diminished as he can't be traded to any Canadian team and teams that have a lot of games in Canada wouldn't trade nearly enough to make it a fair trade.   Again, Selfish.

Hey, I lost co-workers at both jobs over this.    One of them still can't get a job a year later and is whining about benefits running out soon.    But.......hey, you know..........reasons.

Not to get into this too much, but some of us had people we know experience confirmed vax effects.  My aunt got blood clots within a week that was confirmed to the vax.  My uncle had the same.  My mother's cousin suffered paralysis that he still hasn't recovered from over a year later and may never come back within days of getting the vax so he could go on a mission trip.  All of those were confirmed by the doctors directly related to the vax.

Also, my best friend from high school with no known heart issues had a heart attack at age 47 within a month of getting the shot.  Then in June 2021, my mentor and partner in one business died of a heart attack a month after getting the vax at age 60 with no previous conditions.  Those 2 were not confirmed to be caused by the vaccination.

My point is, people have various reasons for not getting the vaccination and the science definitely isn't settled on it in either way.  There are consequences for not getting it, but I will never wish ill will on anyone for either not getting it or getting it.

Not really.  They said he was a decent defender, who would start off in center, but might end up in a corner.  There was never any talk about him being stiff and slow and maybe not having a position.

I heard a number of people saying he was likely below average in a corner and some were projecting him as a DH

  10. 4 minutes ago, Tiger337 said:

He's not necessarily a DH.  It's just that when I hear red flags about a prospect's defense he usually winds up being a bad defender.  We'll see.

We heard quite a few red flags about Greene’s defense when he was drafted.  🤪

The firm of Perez, Lipcius and Meadows put in some work last night unfortunately Olson didn't fair too well.

    Olson 3.2IP 5H 4ER 7K
Perez 2/4, 3B, BB, RBI, SB
    Lipcius 2/2, 2B, 3BB,
    Parker Meadows 3/4, BB, RBI
Pacheco with the golden sombrero 0/4 4K in Lakeland

Dingler 2/4 with a HR and 3 RBI also.

Overall it has been a very promising year for a number of our bats.  Definitely nice to see Meadows up to a .736 ops after struggling so much at the start of his promotion.

    Different front office.

So because they didn't in 2 seasons with Cade, Bey, Stewart and Killian, they aren't going to ever do it?  Of those, the only potential one would have been Killian, but even he was starting his rookie year and getting the playing time.  Maybe Stewart at the start of his rookie year?  But he was getting consistent time pretty early as well.  I don't think you can judge what they will do with Duren just because they didn't do it the last 2 years with those 4 who got consistent playing time basically from the start.

My issue with the Bagley deal is Detroit negotiated against itself.  He is restricted so let him bring you an offer then match it.  I think the odds of a team making him an offer were pretty small.

Wasn’t the issue his $28 mil cap hold that may have delayed at least one of the Knicks deals?

Is there any evidence...at all, even one scrap...to suggest that Paredes' departure had anything...anything at all...to do with "cultural fit"?

I do not believe so.  I think they needed an OF and were able to get one with multiple years of control and a solid track record if they gave up Paredes and most people on this board and outside of it were amazed Paredes was all it took.  They had Schoop and Candelario projected to be at least around league average offensively and controlled this year and next.  It seemed like a no-brainer and I would have made the trade 100 times out of 100.  (And I always liked Paredes potential)

  15. I liked Paredes more than it appeared most did in prior years, but there were not many who thought a straight up trade of Meadows for Paredes was a poor deal.  We had a need for an OF, we got one with proven production who is still under control and it took Paredes to get him who was still an unknown and no one could have honestly predicted Schoop and Candy hitting as awful as they have so far.  I have zero issue with the trade itself.

Now why Paredes didn't get more of an opportunity in 2021 when guys like Goodrum and Harold did and Willi now?  That I don't understand.

MLB OF: Grossman, Meadows, Greene and Reyes

Toledo: Baddoo, Cameron, Hill and Robson

Carpenter’s very high K rate looks like it will be a problem for him as he moves up another level, though I’d still be OK with he and the Maple Hammer changing teams.

I think the organization still wants Willi and Clemens to either be on the bench in Detroit or get consistent work in Toledo as well including in the OF (Willi seems like it may be permanent).  It would be nice if Grossman hits enough to be moved or they could do a minor deal with one of the extra guys.  I tend to think Robson may be in jeopardy of being released or at least relegated to 6th OF in Toledo.  It's kinda sad since he was the one that talked to Carpenter about changing his swing and referred him to his coach.

Odds are Carpenter doesn't materialize, but stranger things have happened -  see JD Martinez, Jose Bautista, Chris Taylor - and when a guy is doing what he is after an adjustment, you would like to see him have every chance to show something is truly different.

Keith and Carpenter with HR tonight. That's 20 for Carpenter, 9 for Keith.

It's Henning, so big grains of salt, but he reports that the Tigers don't have any confidence Carpenter's bat plays at a higher level. Maybe Mike Hessman's record will be at risk sooner than we might have thought.

There is currently a logjam at Toledo, but it doesn't appear he is gaining much by staying at Erie.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the organization likely wanting Meadows, Greene, Grossman, Cameron, Hill, Baddoo, and Reyes all either in Detroit or getting consistent AB's in Toledo.  Not to mention their seeming obsession with Willi playing OF as well as Clemens getting OF time.  It definitely appears that minor trades/cuts would need to be made in order to keep guys getting the playing time needed.

I agree that he lost effectiveness once he stopped running but you really believe he wasn’t blackballed?   Guys like Geno Smith, Nathan Peterman, Matt Barkley, and Chase Daniel all had multiple backup jobs during his hiatus.   He was a better option than all of these guys as a #2.

And he supposedly turned down offers to be a #2.

I want to be excited about Meadows but until he does this in AA I'm going to temper my expectations.  This is his 3rd season in West Michigan so I would hope he'd dominate it, if he goes to Erie and impresses I will then start to get a little excited.

to be fair, this is his 2nd season in high A.

I look at owning team like you owning a house that all but guarantees to multiply in value every few years and renting it out to pay the mortgage.

If your mortgage is 2K a month and you charge 1500 in rent, sure you're going to be losing 6K a year but you're making 10x more than that in equity in this scenario.

Same with owning sports teams, even if they lose money on the bottom line the equity they gain more than makes up for it.

But you would never buy a house to rent for less than your mortgage/insurance/property taxes.  Otherwise you have to have the extra $6K per year in cash and hope that the market didn't drop.
