It’s a vote for more revenue sharing only if all the teams spend the exact same amount if the CBT is 200 as they would if it’s 250. They don’t. They spend less. Why should the Yankees and Dodgers and Mets continually subsidize teams that would rather pocket money than spend on talent? CBT is widely accepted as being a de facto salary cap suppressing overall payrolls. It’s why the players want higher CBTs.

I get this, but then the players using the argument that they want more competitive balance is completely contrary to this.  The higher CBT does nothing for the competitive balance and getting the lower payrolls to spend more.  If anything, it probably does the opposite as they will look for even more ways to be more "efficient" like the Rays as they are less able to compete for the higher priced players.

    because of an interview?

Yeah, Hutch is definitely ahead of Thibodeaux for me.  IMO Hutch tested as well or better in the areas that matter the most for an edge.  And I trust Hutch's work ethic considerably more.

I really like Hamilton as an option if Hutch or trade down can't happen. I know conventional wisdom suggests that is way too early for a safety but I think he is so much more than just a standard safety. He can provide value in a number of a different ways and unlike players at other positions he is the defacto number 1 at his.

Me too.  I could definitely take him over Hutchison as I think we have a better front 4 than back 7 and watching almost all of Hamilton's games the past 3 seasons, he can completely change how a defense is played.  His instincts and game speed are as good as anyone I have seen.  His ability to make plays at the line of scrimmage or in the back end of the defense are definitely different than a normal safety.  And he is one I would definitely trust GPS time more than 40 time as he was definitely one of the fastest players on the field.  I definitely have no problem taking Hutch and probably would do it myself, but Hamilton is definitely my next choice.

I don't have an opinion on it and don't care what they do... my only comment is this seems a silly hill to die on if it's a contentious item in negotiations.  I saw something else, maybe it was here, about making 1B 88 feet?  That seems like a bigger deal but again, I don't care. That stuff is better than banning shifts or starting a guy on 2B in extra innings.

The former players on MLB radio say the players are all for the larger bases, so it doesn't seem like a major issue.

Is "slick base" related to base size, or material composition? I'm trying to imagine how a larger base, everything else held equal, reduces base slickness.

I'm not 100% sure.  I just have heard them say that is the biggest part of the reason.  Maybe the larger bases will be softer and more tapered?

Theyhad it in AAA last year, I believe. They widened it a couple inches to incentivize more stealing, since second base would now be an three inches closer to first, and thus more excitement. That's the story I thought I heard, anyway.

It's also to help with the "slick bases" issue and hopefully prevent some injuries.

he did the same thing with josh jackson and jahlil okafor.  those didnt pan out either.

its a fine gamble to take on bagley.  if he's happy rim running and taking lobs from cade, then fine.  we'll see how it goes.

but the larger point is that you didnt have to give anything up to do it.  you could have just signed him in the offseason.

There is a pretty significant advantage in that his offer to make him a restricted FA will likely be $7.2 mil as he likely won’t meet the thresholds to increase it to $11 plus million.  Then, if they want they can match any offer he gets and don’t have to outbid everyone else.  They also get to see if he fits the culture as Betrayer said.

I like this move.  I am definitely upset we didn’t move Grant.

Notre Dame promotes their DC to HC. Marcus Freeman is in.

    Probably saved some $$ there.

He was always expected to be the HC in waiting, just no one thought it would be this soon.  He's elevated their recruiting in the year he had been there.  Players wanted him, recruits wanted him.  He will be learning on the job coaching, but the program would have taken a significant step back in talent with early signing day in 2 weeks as well as the transfer portal if they didn't make this move.  He is the main reason they actually have a couple 5 stars in the 2022 and 2023 class and are getting some recruits from Ohio that Ohio State wants.  IMO a great hire, al be it one with risk.  A soon to be 36 year old head coach along with a 29 year old offensive coordinator both who are great recruiters.  Keeping almost all of the staff (even though Kelly tried to give them huge raises to follow him).  There will definitely be mistakes on game day, but it definitely brings new blood and energy into the program.

Miller is definitely gone. I bet he transfers to Arizona or Arizona St.

Will be very interesting to see what McCord does. He has looked quite mediocre in his snaps. I know he is a true freshman, but he does not look like a 5* to me at all.

Ryan Day has the philosophy of recruiting a top QB recruit every single class. When asked why he does this instead of someone like Dabo's philosophy of recruiting top QBs every 2 years, his response was simply "Because what if you miss?"

I think McCord is a miss, and in a perfect world Ewers would absolutely stay next year as the back-up and starter for 2023. However, I simply am not convinced he will ride it out like that. Day is going after Devin Brown, 5th best QB in the 2022 class, Dante Moore in the 2023 class (13th overall croot out of Detroit), the top QB in the 24 class, im blanking on his name, and actually already offered top QB in 2025 class out of Findlay, OH - Montgomery. This fits his overall philosophy, but the push for Brown tells me he knows Ewers is gone and he sees McCord as a bust.

Maybe.  I think the push for Brown is because Ewers coming early means both Miller and McCord are gone.  But could be.  Montgomery is interesting  Both ND and OSU offered him early, partly in an attempt to get his brother.  If Ewers had been here this spring, I think he'd for sure be gone, but since he didn't arrive until fall and is already getting paid, I think he stays.  All it takes is an injury to Stroud next year and he is playing early.  If all 3 go, the QB room is definitely in trouble behind Stroud, which is why I think at least 1 stays and I believe it will be Ewers.  It will definitely be interesting to see what happens.

Fast forward a few months its looking like CJ Stroud has cemented himself as QB1 for the 2022 season already. I highly doubt Ewers is going to sit another season, so he will likely transfer to Texas. The NIL stuff is a double edged sword.

I think Ewers will stay as he is still so young and all he needs is 1 year of playing to be a top pick.  I do think Miller and  McCord are likely to transfer as it's unlikely they get any real playing time.

So assuming we get the same comp pick as last year that would mean our 2nd round pick which would be around 50th overall I'm guessing.

Our comp pick this year will be after the 2nd round - they rotate every other year for the teams that qualify and under the current system I believe we cannot lose our comp pick, so the lost pick would be our 3rd round pick.
