I think they would do what they need to make sure they are under the threshold, as the difference between a pick after the 1st for Skubal and maybe Mize compared to after the 4th is huge. So it definitely appears to limit any movement at the deadline, at least without $ going out.
-
We did get McGonigle with $ saved from taking Clark at below slot instead of Langford.
-
Clark Yes. McGonigle was a competitive balance pick, so all 32 teams had a chance at him. Rainer was pick #11 so in the top 1/2, but not at the very top.
-
Not for ROY, they have to win ROY, but top 3 for MVP prior to arbitration eligibility.
-
Right now it’s pretty close between the two. McGonigle plays the more premium position and plays it well. They both are doing well offensively. I’d be surprised if McGonigle doesn’t end up with the higher OPS, let alone the higher WAR.

😂🤣😂I don’t ever remember Tyler Collin’s even being a top prospect. Nor do I ever remember Iorg being can’t miss as I don’t think he was ever a top 100 prospect (although he was higher rated than Collin’s. just looked it up, Collin’s never had an OPS higher than .800 (in A ball) in the minors until .820 when he was sent down to Toledo in 2018. And he was a 6th round pick. Never can’t miss or a top prospect. Iorg was also a 6th round pick and never cracked a .740 OPS.
-
He does have a 477 Ft HR and a lot of walks at least
-
Definitely a no on 1st round, but I could see them drafting Riardon in the 4th or 5th if he’s there.
-
AT 350 he's super athletic - almost Sewell like. -they ran a screen for him also. At 400 not so much. If they take him, I have to believe they are confident he is motivated enough to stay there. As an outsider, I'd be more confident in Blake Miller, but they have a lot more info than me.
-
Yes, he’s definitely the most athletic freak available if he keeps his weight down.
-
But he strikes out too much
-
Well he has 4 walks in his first 9 PA’s including one of Zach Wheeler today, so he’s having solid at bats.
-
He evidently was tearing up the minor league portion of Spring training which helped lead them to starting him in AAA
-
400 plus obp -2 walks last night. Moderate power 15-20 HR, plus to plus plus speed

03/26/2026 4:10pm EDT Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres

Deleuter is interesting though, was that truly his debut as he had 22 at bats in the postseason last year. -
So according to the Athletic, Platinum Equity is one 4 groups in the running to buy the San Diego Padres and estimates are that bidding could top $3.5 billion. Also in the article, it stated that Platinum Equity bought a 27% state in the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 - I was unaware of that too. With the Pistons valued in the $3.65-4.17 billion range, that's a lot of assets in sports franchises- but also quite the return on investment.

If McGonigle can handle it, which I think he can, the best defensive infield when Baez is playing IF has Baez at SS and McGonigle at 3rd. But if Baez isn't playing in the IF, McGonigle is the 2nd best defensive SS on the roster IMO and should be there. For reference, McGonigle played 10 games at SS and 7 at 3rd in the spring and still led regulars in OPS.
-
Just questioning what leads to this thought? From what I saw, McGonigle is an improvement over McKinstry at SS defensively, so if McGonigle is the primary SS, why would they give McKinstry reps there? As far as the moving McGonigle around, I think others have said in the past - maybe Gehringer - that there appear to be some players that can move around and it not effect them much, and there are some who need to be at primarily 1 position. This spring at least, McGonigle appears to be one who has no problem moving back and forth on the left side of the infield. So I personally don't think they will just put him at 3rd in order to keep him from moving around. Keith on the other hand is one who has shown (up to this point) that he needs to settle into a position. I think against RHP McGonigle will start at SS and Keith primarily at 3B. Against LH maybe they have Baez at SS (Vrieiling in CF) and McGonigle at 3B. If there were no injuries (which isn't going to happen obviously) I think McKinstry could have a hard time getting 500 PA's. He likely plays against most LH pitching as there aren't enough RH bats in the OF/3b, but if Keith hits at above league average and is the same (or hopefully improves) on last year's time at 3B I think 3rd will be his. If they decide to primarily DH Keith, then that opens up 3rd for potentially McKinstry and/or McGonigle. I guess most likely against RHP is McGonigle is at SS, Carpenter/Keith/Torres and even Riley share DH and McKinstry plays where whoever is DHing normally plays.

So with JSN's contract, St Brown isn't even in the top 6 WR contracts anymore. He is 7th in total value, is 8th in annual average, 9th in total guarantees. It's why they should continue to lock up guys they know they want to keep early.
-
All he has to be is top 3 though to get the year service time. Last year’s AL winner wasn’t called up til June I believe? He didn’t hit/get on base near as well as McGonigle did, but they were already “burned “ with Skenes losing the pick and the service time. It seems foolish to me, especially in their situation if they think he will be up mid-year. If they plan to wait until August and keep his rookie status, it’s obviously a different story. (By then Rainer will pass him for #1 prospect in the game 🤪)
-
He wasn’t a competitor anyway, there are AL and NL ROY
-
No because if ends up top 3 in ROY, he gets a full year no matter when he’s called up.
-
According to this, they are right behind the Dominican with 94 and almost triple Cuba who is 4th (US is 1) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_Major_League_Baseball_players_by_country_of_birth
-
The Tigers exception was that they had 2 of the biggest stars at the time. Compared to non Dominican/Puerto Rican(if you count it as “foreign “I’d be shocked if they don’t have the next most foreign players in the the majors (and especially if you include the minors)

But at a lower present value-iirc it’s not until 2039. And $13 mil still isn’t “$16 million” you keep throwing around. I th
