  1. The bullpen has been crazy and I think is currently a lot of a team-wide mental funk. A number of guys are generally doing ok, but no one, no matter who they've rotated, can currently hold a 9th inning (or 10th) lead.
  2. I think they're counting on Valdez for next year. That, and his contract makes me think there is close to zero chance he's moved. If they move him, they are punting on next year, and there is no reason to do that IMO.
  3. Well, it stinks that it looks like it will be this route, but a mid-season trade of Skubal will get us below.
  4. If it's that, I sure hope it's another team giving it to him or at worst case, we matched an offer sheet. Like you have said, It seems completely silly to negotiate against yourself. Offer 5/100-125 and tell him to go test the market. If he comes back with an offer for 5/150 i'd likely match it, but if it's 5/180 or higher, I'd have a hard time doing it.
  5. Only if the value of those prospects is higher than the value they place on 1st round picks, which is what they would get for them if they didn't resign.
  6. Seems to fit the profile - solid bat to ball skills with questionable power - sounds similar to Yost and even McGonigle (not saying his bat to ball is anywhere close to McGonigle)
  7. We don't have the $ in CBT Tax space to do it. As @Edman85 has said any more $ without trading away $ will drop the comp pick for Skubal to a 4th rounder (same potentially for Mize) and cost us our competitive balance pick. They aren't taking on any extra $ this year. Every $ in is going to have to have $ going back out with means players on the 40 man.
  8. Which Workman can. I'd be surprised if it's not him.
  9. To answer my own question, Detroit’s payroll is $13 mil higher according to Sportrac
  10. Is the Red Sox payroll higher than Detroit this year?
  11. Holmes also said one the Rams picked Simpson at 13, they were pretty certain Miller would be there at 17.
  12. Don't look now but Greene (.874), Tork (.813), and Carpenter (.863) are now above .800 OPS - Along with McGonigle (.946) obviously.
  13. Flip side is they should come in more ready.
  14. I can get that the first few years of NIL, but once those are past, and guys are out of eligibility in college, you are going to have the same amount of guys coming in with more overall experience. So in other words, I don’t buy that it’s as extreme as they say in year 3-4 of NIL, and think that negative effect will continue to leasen over time.
  15. There are a bunch of articles today about how his slugging pct on pitches over 95 mph is like 16th overall out of 186 hitters with at least 100 plate appearances since the start of 2025. He's slugging .537 on such pitches (prior to 2025 he slugged in the .300's on 95+ mph)
  16. At least we won’t end up with Proctor
  17. Bain and Downs still on the board.
  18. Riley batted leadoff twice in 2025. Kerry hit leadoff 41 games-maybe he’s who you were thinking of.
  19. I think they would do what they need to make sure they are under the threshold, as the difference between a pick after the 1st for Skubal and maybe Mize compared to after the 4th is huge. So it definitely appears to limit any movement at the deadline, at least without $ going out.
  20. We did get McGonigle with $ saved from taking Clark at below slot instead of Langford.
  21. Clark Yes. McGonigle was a competitive balance pick, so all 32 teams had a chance at him. Rainer was pick #11 so in the top 1/2, but not at the very top.
  22. Not for ROY, they have to win ROY, but top 3 for MVP prior to arbitration eligibility.
  23. Right now it’s pretty close between the two. McGonigle plays the more premium position and plays it well. They both are doing well offensively. I’d be surprised if McGonigle doesn’t end up with the higher OPS, let alone the higher WAR.
