  1. Do you know why he hasn’t played this week?
  2. 5 runs allowed in the 3 games. And one isn’t earned from the 10th.
  3. Potentially ABS challenge system in minors-same reason hitters have elevated AAA numbers?
  4. They have an option on Mize for 3.1 million. Even with the injury, I suspect they pick it up
  5. I have to think that the Pirates initially thought best case scenario Skenes would be ready mid/late season and they would bring him up now. I mean, it’s not like they started him in AAA. He clearly forced there hand and helped them get into playoff contention. If they knew he’d be ready by the end of May I imagine they would have started him in Pittsburgh. If he stays healthy they would have legitimately had a chance for 3-4 extra draft picks (not sure if you get 2 if ROY and top 3 Cy Young in same season). I don’t think anyone could have predicted he’d dominate so quickly at AA, AAA, and then the majors.
  6. Who says they’d be looking for 150 innings in Detroit? If it’s only for limiting innings to 130-140 they can definitely do that in a lot of ways in Detroit. We don’t have many starters now that are getting to 150. I definitely agree it’s to evaluate Jung and Sweeney, but there is a reason it’s today and wasn’t August 1, or even yesterday. I mean making your debut against the Yankees isn’t as easy as it would have been against say the Royals, or even the Mariners. And most promotions are done on Mondays which are always travel days in the minors and was for Detroit also. It was clearly timed wisely with the draft pick potential in mind. They aren’t going to lose 3 potential opportunities for an extra pick from Jobe to skip starts or short start him in Toledo rather than Detroit if innings are the only concern of his readiness.
  7. I don’t think there’s anyway they don’t start Jobe in Detroit if it is only for limiting innings. There’s a reason Jung is called up today-it’s the 1st day he could while keeping 2025 rookie status and thus the chance, however slim for the extra draft pick if he’s ROY or top 3 in MVP pre arbitration. They aren’t going to give up that chance on Jobe just to limit his innings in Toledo instead of Detroit.
  8. No doubt. But going into the season, they were way down the line of guys most thought we had in depth. Manning, SGL, and Madden were all ahead of them. Mize and Olson getting hurt, Maeda struggling, and Flaherty being traded are all obviously going to destroy what depth we though we had. And IMO it was reasonable to expect we had enough depth. Mize has shown he could be an average starter. Manning also showed that in stretches. Maeda's career also showed that. Gipson-Long also showed flashes of being able to at least fill in reasonably. You could see hope in Madden taking an Olson type step. The fact that all those things went wrong and we still are getting solid pitching from the guys who were 10th-12th on the depth chart at best going into the year is actually impressive. Our pitching is the primary reason we are only 5 games under .500 (with 7 more games against the White Sox ahead ) I also wonder if the ABS challenge system in the minors is currently making pitchers look worse in AAA than they are when they get to the majors? In the same way it is making it easier for hitters. Obviously there will be a large shift whenever MLB adopts the system.
  9. Montero, Sammons, Hurter are currently doing just that. The Tigers aren’t below.500 because of pitching injuries. The games they’ve lost have been much more from offense struggles than pitching. And the fact that they are playing as well as they are now is a testament to somehow getting reasonable pitching from guys who weren’t expected to be called upon.
  10. I believe it’s If you lose one, you can protect one.
  11. Having McGonigle below Madden, Melton, and Sweeny doesn't make any sense to me. And not having Hamm in the top 20?
  12. One thing in favor of him being on opening day roster is the potential draft pick bonus if he’d win ROY. If they think he’s ready, I think they figure out his innings in Detroit for that possibility alone.
  13. And it’s not like he was crazy wild. 65 strikes and 37 balls
  14. And 2 steals for good measure
  15. Maybe because Kreidler is at short.
  16. I would say that’s the minimum if you’re just comparing the 2. Flaherty’s numbers you posted are significantly better than Montgomery’s. Now will a team be as aggressive after him as the Rangers were? That’s another question.
  17. Yes, Gibson-Long also
  18. I don’t know. We got Olson for one of them. Candelario and Paredes in another. Even Lange exceeded considerably what we would have gotten for the few months. i agree I’d rather extend, or better yet, trade and resign if they identify someone worth trading them for.
  19. I thought he was mocked to us because of our ties with him more than the expectations he was the best “ranked” prospect at that time, but I could be wrong.
  20. And I think the draft pick was a very large factor against Chapman who had an awful year last year after the first month or so.
  21. Maybe they are looking to extend Decker for a year as part of it? The rolling over definitely makes sense also. It definitely gives them flexibility.
  22. What they did though, is give them a bit of an out in 2026 if things would fall apart as even though they would have a dead money hit of over $63 million, it is still less than his cap number and could be spread over 2 years. It leaves a bit more flexibility in a worst case scenario and they have options to lower the hit if things continue to go well.
  23. Yeah they can definitely add void years and switch his 2026 salary to bonus if they want as well.
  24. So assuming they added a void year, the signing bonus allocation would be just over $12 mil per year (this year, the 4 year extension and the void year) so if they need to move on him after year 3, there would be 24.3 mil in SB allocation left plus it appears $5 mil in guaranteed $ so a total of around $29 million dead money that could be spread over 2 years-very manageable. If they didn’t add a void year, the annual bonus allocation goes up to $14.6 million which means the dead money would be left after year 3 of the extension (4years from now) would be $19.6 million (assuming $5 million of the last year is guaranteed to get to the total $170 guaranteed) Obviously he may be restructured throughout which may affect the ending cap hit, but it could be very manageable at the end. He will also still only be Cousin’s age in 6 years to it may be extended again.
