  1. I agree. I expect us to sign a mid level FA, but I think our best options out of that bunch to find solid #2 and #3 to slide in behind Skubal are Olsen, SGL, Melton, a Flaherty who gets back to 2024 consistency, Mize taking another step and Jobe returning. Other than trading for Ryan, (which I would be open to) I’d rather keep our prospects and not spend big $ on a FA starter.
  2. None of which were traded likely due to the asking price.
  3. Again if anything it’s a player or 2, not clubhouse issues. And Baez at least (of the 2) has been willing to do whatever the team asks positions wise.
  4. This is one part of the NFL salary cap that took me a bit to comprehend, the fact that they can rollover unused cap money. I don't think it is in any other sport that has a salary cap. It is a huge way to benefit teams in planning for high cap seasons without having to frontload deals/etc when they have space. By Holmes keeping the cap space this year, it helps next year as you say, but it also leaves him room this season at the deadline if injuries happen at a specific position. There is definitely no benefit to overpaying a player like Smith just because you have the cap room in 2025.
  5. Exactly. There is a major difference between "Clubhouse issues" and a frustrated player. Obviously there will be frustrated players throughout, but to even talk about clubhouse issues with this club, all leading from Passans speculation on Flaherty opting out, is comical IMO.
  6. So we've gone from 1 national writer's speculation that Flaherty is going to opt-out to there are potential clubhouse issues with this team? I'm sorry, but this is quite the stretch. Everything we have heard from the players themselves is how tight this clubhouse is. You hear it from Carpenter, he doesn't want to get pinch hit for, but he understands it and the team is the most important. There is zero evidence that this team has clubhouse issues. And in reality, there isn't evidence that Passan did anything more than write what he thinks will happen rather than talking to anyone associated with Flaherty.
  7. What Starting Pitching was available at the deadline that was under control for next year and was objectively bet†er than we currently have?
  8. Sewald with an scoreless innings in WM tonight.
  9. Completely agree with your first part. Unless something happened this season, the 2nd isn't true as he was out telling others how great his time was here and how he was so glad to come back (at what appeared a team friendly deal).
  10. Yeah, he’s clearly speculating and after the way last year’s FA went for him coming off a significantly better season, I have a hard time seeing him opt out of $20 mil. Of course if he’s dominant the rest of the way it would change things.
  11. I had heard they adjusted his pitch sequencing. I'm sure there are other tweaks, but his K rate has gone up considerably.
  12. It is also more evidence that for some, the difference between AAA and the majors is a significant hurdle. Even Jung, couldn't hit for power at all in Detroit, but has double digit homers in Toledo. Malloy is another example. It doesn't mean they don't have a chance, but it means numbers at a level don't necessarily mean if the player is going to succeed (or fail) at the next level. What are their at bats like? What is their statcast data showing? etc
  13. And if anything, Martin is a bigger bust from that class considering they moved up for him.
  14. A rookie cannot deny a waiver claim. If he is claimed, he is gone. They either must think he’ll get through, or they aren’t concerned if he doesn’t. Maybe they have a claim on someone they think is a better fit? Personally I hope he clears and joins the practice squad.
  15. Exactly, if they don't make it out of camp, and unless they don't have options due to injuries/etc, Clark and McGonigle will likely be called up the day they will maintain their rookie eligibility for 2027.
  16. Yeah, even with the misses, 3 current and potentially 4 Pro Bowl players in your first 4 picks is hitting pretty well.
  17. lol, that might be a bit far. Duran has been great overall as has Finnegan for us. But definitely get your point.
  18. I still think they are going to sign Smith right after cutdowns, so there’s a spot. Manu may still be one of the developmental guys. And quite frankly, I think they’re more inclined to keep some of the young DL on the roster than Hooker at this point. I also don’t think there’s much risk of losing him to another team’s regular roster so if they want him, could keep him on their practice squad.
  19. Morton was actually pitching pretty well the previous couple months. He was just so awful the first 6-8 weeks his numbers didn’t show it. And he was showing really good K/9 as well.
  20. Yeah, other than us, the only one whose doing well is Duran. i was disappointed we didn’t get Jax or Bednar for what they went for, and hoped we’d get more swing and miss guys, but Finnegan has done great in that regard. I definitely wasn’t on the Fire Harris train and was glad we got all we did for the minimal we gave up. i really liked Morton for his versatility, experience, high K’s and low cost.
  21. Another name who is likely a lock if healthy is Sewald.
  22. All it says on the injury and transaction page is that he underwent tests on his right wrist. It hasn't been updated since the 19th (he was undergoing the tests on the 20th)
  23. Doesn't mean he will be on the playoff roster. Right now I'd say it's unlikely he pitches better in September than one of the other guys, but it is possible. I definitely wouldn't have him as a lock in the pen. I'd think Urquidy even has a better chance at this point of being on the postseason roster.
