  1. Only question being if they want to carry 3 QB's on the active roster - they only carried 2 last season until signing Bridgewater late.
  2. I could see him clearing waivers and think it's likely with what he's shown so far (unless picked up by our competition just to learn about the offense. IMO, I don't think he brings back even a 7th. At this point, I'd rather have Ewers to develop than Hooker and he went in the middle of the 7th.
  3. He is a FA after the season.
  4. I do agree with this. By Spring training 40 man spots can easily be opened up as guys can go on the 60 day again
  5. And only 3 are free agents after this year, so that’s 6 spots on the 40 man right there.
  6. Not only that, but he hasn't shown he can hit AAA pitching yet, which as was said earlier, is a bigger jump than it used to be with the few minor league teams and more pitchers being shuttled between the majors and AAA. I think it's foolish to think McGonigle would step in right now and be better than Sweeney currently is.
  7. It isn't Codi Heuer per say. He may already need to come off to protect others. Edman has the list of who is eligible for the Rule V. And again, everyone on the 60 day (like Jobe) gets added back to the 40 at the end of the season, while only those that are FA's come off.
  8. I think SGL likely stays in the pen for 1-3 inning stints. I don't think Morton is coming out of the rotation until the postseason - he still had double digit K's in his poor start. Hopefully Melton and SGL will allow Flaherty/Morton/Paddock to have shorter leashes if they start to get into trouble.
  9. Another factor is the 40 man roster. There are a number of players that are Rule V eligible this year that would need to be protected. They aren't promoting McGonigle before they are fairly sure he's ready locking up a spot on the 40 man (and starting his clock) and jeopardizing other depth they want to keep. (Remember, all those on the 60 day IL also have to be put on the 40 man after the season.) It may sound good, but McGonigle and Clark are going to spend the majority of next season between AA and AAA, if no major struggles, likely being called up at the end of 2026 (keeping their rookie eligibility) and then starting the season in 2027 giving the possibility of the extra draft pick.
  10. Look at the packages the Padres took for Soto and the Brewers took for Burnes. They aren't close to the packages you proposed (which I wouldn't take either for the reasons I said earlier). If those were the best offers out there - and Soto was a similar position player as Skubal was a pitcher, then I don't think teams are going to offer what you think. It was mentioned above, but the Padres basically ended up with a solid starter. The Brewers so far have ended up with maybe average players. If trying to get players that are ready to contribute, I believe those are more likely the level we would be getting for 1 year of Skubal. Personally, I'd rather have the year of Skubal (in a year we are going for it) and the comp pick than get Michael King, who is a solid #2-3 starter under multiple years of control. When Harris is drafting and developing like we are, the comp pick has considerable upside - see where McGonigle was drafted.
  11. And I don't think there will be as huge a package as you seem to think, at least not of players ready to help us immediately. If he had 2 plus years of control, possibly, but not with 1. The best opportunity would have been the Orioles last year and they weren't even willing to part with their top, ready prospects even though they didn't have room for everyone.
  12. I’d be shocked if we get either package offered you mentioned-and although I’d agree they’d set us up better in the future than losing Skubal for a comp pick, I disagree that they would set us up better for a 2026 postseason run as none of those mentioned are as likely as Skubal to single handily affect a playoff series. I keep Skubal and take my chances which also will boost the morale of the rest of the team.
  13. Exactly. A trade for Skubal likely involves prospects coming back, especially if pitchers. If position players, a team with an abundance at one position (like the Red Sox with OF) you may get major leaguers with control. But a playoff team isn’t going to give a good (established) #2 with control as part of the deal for 1 guaranteed year of Slubal if they are trying to upgrade their rotation. It could be a prospect that projects to that, but just that, a prospect. i think we would a be disappointed to see what the “haul” for 1 year of Skubal would actually be. Would we be happy with what the Brewers got for Burnes? I wouldn’t when we have a legitimate shot to compete now and pitchers like Skubal can go a long way to win short playoff series.
  14. But by that rationale, why would another team in a similar position (who doesn’t expect to be able to sign him) make that trade? I’m just responding to your comment that no team would be out of the running.
  15. In the position they are in, if anything, the Tigers in the offseason should be looking to add a Skubal (difference making player under control for 1 season) more than they should trade Skubal. Personally, I don’t think they should do either. Keep Skubal to give your best shot of advancing in the playoffs, and look to trade for difference makers under control if you are going to trade-even if the price may hurt.
  16. For the same reason people seem to think the Tigers, in a position to compete, should trade him.
  17. SSS alert: Finnegan since the trade. 3 1/3 IP. 1 Hit 0 Walks 5K 0.30 WHIP 13.5 K/9 and Infinity K/BB ratio 🤪
  18. Did you mean 95? If so, out of curiosity, why would that be a concern to you?
  19. Helsley has more velocity and I preferred him over Finnegan, but it could fairly easily be argued they are very "similar arms". Especially when you see how Helsley's fastball has been hit this season. Maybe they saw something in his video/metrics that they didn't think they could improve on. They at least didn't see Helsley as enough of an upgrade over Finnegan or the other arms People can think differently, but the Tigers were clear that they weren't looking for position players. Mike Ferrin (of MLB Radio and Arizona broadcaster) confirmed what Cody was saying: that all the talk from those around the team was that they were only looking for arms at the deadline and had no interest in Suarez or other bats. And I don't think they saw Gregory Soto as an upgrade over the lefthanders they already have in the bullpen. I did want them to get Bednar for what it took and was definitely disappointed when I saw what Jax ended up going for (although he requested a trade in the afternoon and had had a blow up with Badelli the night before). And personally, I would have tried to get Duran and would have been open to moving any one headliner outside of Rainer, Clark, McGonigle, Liranzo to get him. - Yes I would have include Briceno or C-Rod for Duran, but only one of them plus 2+ of the next bunch.
  20. No, but someone who can help in regular season, has experience out of the pen, and still has 9k/9 as a starter.
  21. 18 year old Venezuelan OF Josueth Quinonez
  22. In his last 11 starts, he has 6 quality starts and 1-5 innings of shutout and 2 5 innings of 2 runs. Of course his other starts were 2 giving up 4 runs and 1 giving up 7.
  23. Me too. The most disappointing guys we didn’t get for me are Bednar and Duran. I think they both went for fair value and would have filled areas of need beyond this year. If we somehow get Jax and/or Ryan from the Twins I won’t be sad we missed out on the others. I’m good with who we got and what we gave up for them, and wouldn’t have wanted to do what the Padres did.
  24. Because Liranzo is a switch hitter who can actually stick at catcher and has an above average ops in AA while being young for the league. He also has a history similar to Dingler of a significant adjustment period to a new league-probably in part to handling the pitching staff. Briceno is a better hitting prospect, but Liranzo has a true chance to be a power hitting.775-.850 switching hitting catcher which there aren’t to many of.
  25. He was prospect eligible and was Seattle’s 10th ranked prospect I think? So definitely not close to a top 100 no matter how you try and spin it. I will say I am disappointed we didn’t get Bednar as he was had for less than Jung/Anderson/Hamm, although none of those are catchers like 2 of the guys the Pirates got.
