Agreed. Some of it is bad luck (Cade). Some of it is his own doing (Wiseman, Killian, etc). Overall, I he think does get more credit than he deserves. -

H I agree with this also. Unfortunately, so much hinges on Cade and I don't feel real great about him right now. -
I hope the Pistons don't cling to the notion that Cade is their franchise player too long if it is not warranted. There is a chance Ivey could be a star in this league but his development gets slowed because we run so much of our offense thru Cade.
-
Say what you want about preseason but it is hard to find reasons this team is going to improve a lot over last season
-
Every player benefits from playing with other good players. Even so, I would take Mobley over Cade in a heartbeat at this point. The three point shooting you mentioned from Cade is a real concern. The likelihood that Cade is an all-star at some point is pretty high. The likelihood that Cade is the franchise player we were hoping for is not very high. Give me Mobley with his game changing defensive potential next to Ivey, Duren, and Ausar and I am feeling pretty good about the Pistons right now. Fingers crossed Cade takes a big step this season.

I don't have much hockey knowledge compared to the rest of you but even a dummy can see Debrincat is going to make a huge difference for this team.

Man...we just give up way too many free runs to opposing teams. Not good as this reminds me of the second half of last season.
-
I agree. Which is why I think he could be a buy low candidate. I definitely wouldn't want him though if his last two years (1000 abs) is the new baseline for him. The gamble is he can bounce back to what he did in his first 750 major league at bats.

I can't see Soto being traded. Teams are not going to give up a premium prospect for one year of Soto. The Padres won't get that and won't trade him for less than that (at least in the offseason). Tatis has two years left so if the Padres shop him, I could see that potentially happening.
-
Thank goodness. I already like him 10 times better than Casey. One of my biggest fears at the end of last year was that Wiseman would slow Duren's development.
-
Cronenworth at his peak was not a middling guy. The bet would be he can get back to that or something close to it. It's a gamble for sure but I'd like to see Harris take a gamble somewhere.
-
I'll throw out a name and cover myself from the arrows being thrown around: Jake Cronenworth. Local kid, coming off a couple of down years and might be getting squeezed in San Diego so the price should be reasonable, fits position of need, plays good defense, and I think due for a bounce back. I am guessing San Diego would be very willing to listen to offers for him.

I am hoping he will be a little less streaky next year. The lows seem to be especially low for him. -

With Javy Baez, just plan to bat him 9th next year and cross your fingers he can bounce back. Baseball players bounce from bad to respectable quite a bit. I would bet Javy Baez at 30 yard old has at least one 700+ OPS season left in him. I don't think you can cut him this quick and pay him to rebound with another team. -

Is there a stat that shows how good a first baseman is at picking bad throws? It would be helpful in evaluating Torkelson's defense. -

There are a few teams that have legitimate lineup depth but maybe the key to scoring runs is to just find 4-5 hitters that are good enough to overcome what you have to throw out there with the bottom of the order. The Tigers feel like they are close to breaking out now and being a good team. I don't think 3 good bats is enough to overcome the slumps players inevitably go thru unless you have a stud pitching staff. Need at least 1 more legitimate bat, preferably 2. -
Exactly. Can't put much stock into what we are seeing. But I am not going to tell anybody not to be excited about Ausar either. He was the #5 pick in the draft, clearly has a lot of potential, and it's the season for optimism.

Not sure I have seen a player at Ausar's age have such good instincts on defense. Very, very, encouraging. I would much rather roll with Bogey and Ausar starting together than Duren and Wiseman. Until I see if it fails.

Langford may be higher profile right now among people who follow baseball. But Clark may actually have quite a bit more marketability long term based on his personality. I doubt this came into play but it has crossed my mind. Maybe this isn't a fair comparison but I feel a little bit like you are comparing Mike Trout's image (Langford) to Bryce Harper's image (Clark). One thing I will say about Clark though is that even if he carries a lot of flash, he also seems like he genuinely a good dude to go along with it. I also would have taken Langford, even though I acknowledge there is a good case to be made for Clark also and it's splitting hairs. I just feel like the speed and defense profile of Clark does not outweigh the extra risk that comes with being a star high school bat versus a star college bat.
-
I am wilingl to drink the kool aid and believe Clark was the right pick. But passing on Langford definitely gives me vibes that we are over-thinking it. I wonder how many of the 30 mlb teams pass on Langford there.

You got to imagine we had some leverage here and Debrincat would not have taken this same deal with Ottawa. That said, we deserve a break and I don't feel a bit guilty after all the bad luck we have had in the lottery.

Skubal out after 63 pitches. It's say it's 50-50 whether that is good or bad for his arm. -
Thank goodness it seems Washington wants Skenes if he is available...to save the Tigers from making a big mistake and passing on one of the top three players for Teel.

A few things my opinion has not changed on. Jalen Duren is still on track to be some kind of version of Chris Webber. Jett Howard will do well in the NBA regular season but he has a long ways to go to have success against defenses that play hard. As far as Ausar, it's good if he has has point guard skills. But we need to have balance too and that means somebody on the wing besides Bojan needs to step up as an efficient scorer.

I despise James Wiseman. If I had to guess one thing that is going to tank our season more than anything else, I would choose him.
