  1. There are a few teams that have legitimate lineup depth but maybe the key to scoring runs is to just find 4-5 hitters that are good enough to overcome what you have to throw out there with the bottom of the order. The Tigers feel like they are close to breaking out now and being a good team. I don't think 3 good bats is enough to overcome the slumps players inevitably go thru unless you have a stud pitching staff. Need at least 1 more legitimate bat, preferably 2.
  2. Exactly. Can't put much stock into what we are seeing. But I am not going to tell anybody not to be excited about Ausar either. He was the #5 pick in the draft, clearly has a lot of potential, and it's the season for optimism.
  3. Not sure I have seen a player at Ausar's age have such good instincts on defense. Very, very, encouraging. I would much rather roll with Bogey and Ausar starting together than Duren and Wiseman. Until I see if it fails.
  4. Langford may be higher profile right now among people who follow baseball. But Clark may actually have quite a bit more marketability long term based on his personality. I doubt this came into play but it has crossed my mind. Maybe this isn't a fair comparison but I feel a little bit like you are comparing Mike Trout's image (Langford) to Bryce Harper's image (Clark). One thing I will say about Clark though is that even if he carries a lot of flash, he also seems like he genuinely a good dude to go along with it. I also would have taken Langford, even though I acknowledge there is a good case to be made for Clark also and it's splitting hairs. I just feel like the speed and defense profile of Clark does not outweigh the extra risk that comes with being a star high school bat versus a star college bat.
  5. I am wilingl to drink the kool aid and believe Clark was the right pick. But passing on Langford definitely gives me vibes that we are over-thinking it. I wonder how many of the 30 mlb teams pass on Langford there.
  6. You got to imagine we had some leverage here and Debrincat would not have taken this same deal with Ottawa. That said, we deserve a break and I don't feel a bit guilty after all the bad luck we have had in the lottery.
  7. Skubal out after 63 pitches. It's say it's 50-50 whether that is good or bad for his arm.
  8. Thank goodness it seems Washington wants Skenes if he is available...to save the Tigers from making a big mistake and passing on one of the top three players for Teel.
  9. A few things my opinion has not changed on. Jalen Duren is still on track to be some kind of version of Chris Webber. Jett Howard will do well in the NBA regular season but he has a long ways to go to have success against defenses that play hard. As far as Ausar, it's good if he has has point guard skills. But we need to have balance too and that means somebody on the wing besides Bojan needs to step up as an efficient scorer.
  10. I despise James Wiseman. If I had to guess one thing that is going to tank our season more than anything else, I would choose him.
  11. Are the Tigers possibly holding Keith back to manipulate his service time? Not even sure how that works anymore.
  12. It's ridiculous that Carpenter has 12 at bats against left handed pitchers this season. He's clearly one of our tougher outs. At least give him a chance to develop against left handed pitchers.
  13. I don't know. The whole whole self pity schtick doesn't play with me. I have heard it for too long with the Tigers. Staying healthy is skill. Boyd pitched a total of 150 innings the last three years. I don't blame the Tigers for signing him but I am not going to buy into a pity party they throw for themselves either (or that Monroe and Shep throw for them).
  14. This pick is as easy as the Torkelson and Mize picks (even those have not exactly worked out in our favor). You take whoever falls to us between Crews, Langford, and Skenes. We are very fortunate to be in the top three. The only way the pick becomes difficult is if two of those three to fall to us.
  15. If you want top talent on the free agent market, you are going to have to overpay. Jerami Grant does appear to be the ideal fit for us right now. It sounds like the max for him for the Pistons is 4 years, $174 million. That seems absurd to me for a guy who is not an all-star but it might be worth it while we still got Cade and Ivey on reasonable deals.
  16. I don't think Ausar's shot is as broke as people think. He may not shoot a good percentage next year but I am a long ways from writing it off completely long term.
  17. Any James Wiseman takers? Would love to add another pick in this range.
  18. Always fun to read too much into the interviews. Something about Scoot rubs me the wrong way. Bilas compared him to Russell Westbrook and I have a feeling he may be like Westbrook in multiple ways. Ausar didn't look too excited. Hopefully, that's just his demeanor.
  19. Happy with this. The Pistons are desperate for defense. Hopefully, he and Cade together can light a fire under Ivey to play some defense.
  20. Doesn't like they are calling Ausar. So probably not him.
  21. Or maybe now. Seems like most mocks had Amen going to Houston. I don't think there is anything close to consensus on who Detroit is going to take.
  22. I'll probably drink the kool-aid no matter who they draft but I am hoping for Ausar Thompson at this point.
  23. Don’t hype Hendricks too much. He may work his way into not being an option for us.
  24. I am not sure #2 or #5 is much different for us. Scoot was not a fit for us. So we would have had to draft him and trade him. Obviously, I'd prefer 2 over 5 but the real miss here is not getting #1 and only one team was going to win this lottery.
  25. Is this two years in a row we got screwed by the lottery? Ivey was number 5 as well and I would imagine we had one of the three worst records last year also.
