  1. Aaron Judge's rookie year he hit 52 HR with a 1.049 OPS. McGwire and Alonso also hit 49 and 53 HR.
  2. Aaron Judge, Pete Alonso, and Mark McGwire had amazing rookie years. Kurtz will be a perennial MVP candidate. Even though the Tigers are in 1st right now and the A's are 20 games under .500, I would take their roster in a heartbeat. If they get some pitching, they are going to be in business.
  3. True, but I was told in another thread that he would flame out and is just a flash in the pan like Chris Shelton and Brennan Boesch.
  4. I mean, he was like the best hitter in college for 3 years in a row, but sure...why not make a ridiculous comparison.
  5. He played 5 games in AA in 2024 and decided he had enough of that level. He hit 7 HRs in AAA in 20 games this year and now he is probably the best 1st baseman in the major leagues. For every Nick Kurtz there are about 10,000 Jace Jungs.
  6. I'm about an hour west of Detroit. It's a light drizzle here
  7. Double A is double A. It's a big jump up to the majors.
  8. I'm guessing there is a ton of pressure on Skubal today. I could see them losing 2-0 today. Hopefully, the offense steps up todaygf.
  9. I remember when the Lions blew the game against SF in the championship game. Everyone was saying they'll be back. I said no guarantees and its tough to get back. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts, and they got destroyed in their first playoff game. When you have a chance, you need to take advantage of it. I think Harris and pizza boy are hoping everything just works out without making any moves. They could finish in 4th place next year. Look at the '84 Tigers...one playoff appearance in '87 and by 89, they were the worst franchise for the next 15 years.
  10. Kurtz is definitely going to be a star. I would trade Clark, McGonigle, and Rainier for him.
  11. And Kurtz missed a 5th home run by about 2 feet. He settled for a double.
  12. A catcher is not anything to get excited by. Look at all the other supposedly future superstar catchers lately. Joey Bart, Patrick Bailey, Adley Rutschman, and on and on. I absolutely hate when teams draft catchers high in the draft. And if for some reason they do hit, you want to move them to a different position.
  13. Jeffrey Springs could be realistic guy. And they wouldn't have to trade a bunch to get him. Maybe a minor league pitcher? The one starter that I heard was on the block is Mackenzie Gore of Washington. I would call the Nats up and see about that one, but I am guessing that will be a steep price Luis Robert of the White Sox is interesting. Lots of talent and looked like he was on his way to stardom in 2023 but Chicago has broken him. Not sure what it would take to get him or if he would be worth the trouble.
  14. It doesn't matter now because Naylor isn't available. For bargain basement guys off the bench, maybe McCutchen from the Pirates. I doubt if you'd need to give up much for them.
  15. Their offense is going to run through Torkelson amd Greene. None of the available 3B/OF are worth giving up the top prospects. I'd think getting some bullpen arms would help. This would be my #1 priority. I'm not sure if any of the starters available would be much of an improvement over #2-5 now. The playoffs rotation should be Skubal Bullpen day Mize Bullpen day Flaherty, Montero and Olson can go out to the Bullpen and if the game is out of hand, they can stay out there to keep the rest of the bullpen fresh.
  16. Never. Naylor can be the full time DH. They are using Jones and Keith right now as the DH's.
  17. I have this feeling they are going to squander the last 2 years of Tarik Skubal being a Tiger because of "we'll get 'em next year or the year after that when all those guys in the minors come up and all play like MVP candidates." They aren't going to try to trade for help.
  18. Meadows is a guy who will hover around a .210 average, play great defense, hit 10 hrs, visit the IL for 2 months a year, and be out of the league at 30.
  19. Naylor would have been a great pickup for the Tigers. They didn't give up anything of significance.
  20. You gotta have someone on the AAA roster. Why not him?
  21. JC, do you spend anytime thinking why would another team do some half-ass idiotic trade thrown out there to simply help the Tigers? I guess trading a guy who has 90 hrs over the last 2 and a half years, who just signed a 5 year deal at only $12 million a year for a guy who played at A ball and who is blocked by rising star Nick Kurtz at 1st, a guy who wouldn't get much playing time in Perez, a guy who has zero defensive skills and also looks like he can't hit mlb pitching in Jung, and a marginal 19 year old pitcher makes sense. Sure, why not? The A's have a nice core in Kurtz, Soderstrom, Wilson, and Rooker. They just need some pitching and the guys they are getting in return are not going to help them at all.
  22. Why would the A's do this? 4 below average for an all star? How does it make sense for the A's since they just signed Rooker to a team friendly 4 year contract?
  23. Why would the Reds do this? 2.5 games out of the wildcard. Matt McLain in his 2nd season at 2nd. It needs to make sense for the other team...just not a trade that helps the Tigers.
