WAR per 162 game average: Keith Hernandez 4.7 Will Clark 4.6 Mark Teixeira 4.4 Jack Clark 4.3 John Olerud 4.2 Miguel Cabrera 3.9 Don Mattingly 3.8 Guess the one that is a sure fire 1st ballot HOFer and guess which ones have zero chance at making the HOF? All the guys played at least 15 years. And Kent has the same WAR per 162 games as Cabrera, 3.9 Craig Nettles, 68.0 WAR, 22 years, 4.1 per 162 games Miguel Cabrera, 67.2 WAR, 21 years. 3.9 per 162 games. Buddy Bell, 66.3 WAR, 18 years, 4.5 per 162 games.

I imagine Bonds hit all those home runs for him too. The dude still did what he did, no matter how much you don't want it to be true. Also, Kent hit 3rd and Bonds hit 4th. Whitaker had an actual HOFer hitting after him. That Bonds fellow couldn't even make it in the HOF.

Kent was a great choice. Your argument is based on WAR and WAR alone. Kent was arguably the greatest offensive 2nd baseman. .290 avg, 377 hrs, 1518 rbi, 1320 runs. .855 ops. I know people hate all these stats now and just go by war, but who cares if Kent wasn't a Gold Glover or amazing base runner. And just because they hate Whitaker and won't put him in the HOF doesn't mean Kent shouldn't be in there.

This is stuff that 99% of people in the board already know. But people get irrational when a player leaves to make more money as though that player owes the franchise something.
-
And owners have proven they don't have to be serious about winning to make money. It's obvious.
-
Why? He doesn't owe the Tigers anything. And hardly anyone plays for one team their entire career. But why would he want to stay with a franchise that doesn't seem to be serious about winning. His quote aboutbthinking the World Series should be the standard sure sounded like a shot at the FA's lack of trying
-
Last season Morton had -0.8 and Paddack had -0.6 for the Tigers. Hard to believe that a replacement player would only suck that much less than those guys did.
-
Word on the street is Harris is looking for multiple pitchers who will spend the entire season on th IL.
-
WAR calculations don't make any sense to me. In 2014, Scherzer and Sale both had a 6 5 WAR even though Scherzer was superior to Sale in every single statistic. And Iwakuma had a 7.0 WAR even though he was worse than Scherzer in everything but slightly better in ERA. And I'm sure you can find hundreds of other examples that don't seem rational

Keep him and try to win this season. I am interested in Detroit winning a World Series this season, not being proclaimed as the best minor league system.

We all know that fans make all the transactions for a mlb organization.

Cheap ass owners would never agree to a salary floor. Also, teams already have too many years of control on players. Think of poor Paul Skenes...by time he's FA, he'll have 15 more losses than wins in his career with a sub 2.00 ERA
-
If they allowed another roster spot, it would just be another pitcher in all likelihood
-
Some leagues in South/Latin America allow 25 or 26 players on the roster but allow the teams to update the roster every game, so they can rotate guys back and forth every game onto the roster. So they might have 20 pitchers going back and forth Not many pitchers go more than an inning or 2. If you hate the way bullpen are used now, you'd really hate something like that

In 2000 and 2001, his primary position was SS. 2000- 61 of 65 games at SS. 2001- 98 of 110 games at SS.

Skubal to the D-backs for Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara, and Jose King. Get it done Harris!
-
They gave Flaherty $25 million last year with a $5 million signing bonus. This year, Flaherty will make $20 million if he makes 15 starts. And Skubal is only worth $19.5 million according to the FO. Not only is he the best player on the team, but he seems to be the team leader too. And in his final year with the team, they aren't even trying to put a better team on the field behind him.

Those damn accountants, fishermen, IT support people, biologists, etc make too much money. I'd rather have the CEO's of their company get that money.
-
It always amazes me that people get angry at the players for asking for part of the billions of dollars that the owners make.
-
No one is giving Bassitt $100 million.
-
Tucker is a good player, but wow. Just wow. He's pretty much Bobby Bonilla at the plate except Tucker plays in a juiced ball era.
-
I'd much rather have billionaire owners make and keep all the money than players get any of it. If these super rich people don't want to spend, then they don't spend. You'll give cheap ass owners like Ilitch and excuse to not spend yet again.
-
A lot of people are looking for ways the Tigers can sign Skubal, but he's going to have options and he will be looking for teams that will spend on other players so he has a legit great team behind him. Is that the Tigers? No, it's not. He was never signing with the Tigers. Just like some fans think the Pirates have a shot to sign Skenes. Neither of those will ever happen.
-
I've noticed there are a few posters who think just Harris's presence has made all the players that much better. Like he was hired and suddenly the players figured out how to play baseball just because he was part of the organization.
-
I don't think GMs have a magic switch that makes players good suddenly. Players either have the talent or they don't. Some just take longer to become successful, if ever. Avila had a bunch of very high draft picks and those guys started playing better once he left. Harris getting hired has nothing to do with those guys turning into better players. Next, some posters are going to claim it was Harris who made Skubal into a Cy Young winner. Giving the guy credit for something he had no influence over is silly. I'll give him credit for building the farm system to where it is, but as for the big league club...he hasn't done much to improve it. Maybe the present isn't a priority to him because it doesn't seem like he cares about it. But GMs are still subordinate to the owner, the guy doling out the money, so I question what Harris can and cannot do as far as spending and signing guys.
