  1. Good inning for Morton. Only allowed 1 run and 2 baserunners.
  2. Bad things happen to the Tigers: Charlie Morton is his name.
  3. In the next few years Machado, Judge, Freeman, Harper, Schwarber, Ohtani, and Suarez will all pass Kaline and get to 400. Goldschmidt and Arenado with outside shots too.
  4. Ohtani on the verge of his 4th MVP. Judge with a fair shot for #3 ( he should already have 3 but in 2017 the writers gave it to Altuve who was cheating). Although they might give it to Raleigh, which wouldn't be a travesty.
  5. Nah. Being a bit chunky as a pitcher is helpful.
  6. WAR is a deeply flawed stat. Paddack has a 0.4 WAR this season. How can this guy be better than anyone you can think of as a replacement?
  7. Message board doctor with the diagnosis.
  8. Paul Skenes is making a mockery of mlb hitters.
  9. It still just amazes me that the team's best hitter isn't allowed to hit against a left handed pitcher.
  10. I didn't realize Rodon had 16 wins. Also, he's left-handed, so does that mean Carpenter won't be in the lineup?
  11. Multi billionaires are always cheap.
  12. White Sox have won 7 out of 8. They are on a hot streak.
  13. The White Sox aren't as bad as their record. Some of their starters are solid and Montgomery and Sosa are going to be all-stars and 35 home run a year guys. The Tigers just have a really awful starting rotation which makes it tough to win consistently.
  14. Some of them would have the stats of active players at the back. A good pre-internet resource.
  15. Skubal has zero intention of returning to Detroit. He isn't going to come out and say it. He was born south of Oakland, went to high school in Arizona, and pitched at Seattle in college. I wonder if he wants to play in any of those areas?
  16. I have about 60 old Baseball Digest from the late 80s and early 90s and a few other sports magazines from that era. Does anyone collect old magazines? Would anyone like them? I can meet up and give them to you. I work on the west side of Lansing 2x a week and live about 40 minutes south along I-69. (Bin not included from picture)
  17. Kody Clemens has 16 HRs in 286 AB's this season. Nice to see him have some success.
  18. In 2014, I was in Cincinnati and caught a Reds game. The Rays were in town and Cobb pitched 7 or 8 shutout innings against the Reds. 1-0 game. I was impressed with him.
  19. Skubal, Brown and deGrom (against each other) pitching tonight. 3 of the top 4 Cy Young candidates.
  20. Torres goes deep. The guy who could easily be replaced by a AA player according to some.
  21. It's a bad look. He lied about it and was really only sorry because he got caught. And if he wasn't behind it, it says the players didn't really consider him important enough to matter. I think managers really can only lose games and not win them, and are more or less interchangeable. Most do the same move in most situations. I think Hinch is a pretentious d-bag, but he is really no better or worse than most of the managers of the last 15 years. But, I thought Ausmus was basically a cookie cutter manager too. A manager's primary responsibility is to manage the bullpen and give guys a day off when they need them. His bullpen sucks, so most of the time it is just a roll of the dice. My biggest complaint is the way he manages the lefty vs lefty match up. The thing that irked me about Gardenhire was the lineup was different everyday and players were always in different defensive positions.
  22. God forbid the smartest man in the room allow a left handed hitter get an at bat against a left handed pitcher. Our manager would have been pinch hitting for Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr, and Ted Williams back in the day.
  23. I have a feeling this Montgomery guy is going to be a thorn in the side of the Tigers for years to come.
  24. White Sox have been playing good ball. Five in a row. I have a feeling this Montgomery guy is going to be a thorn in the side of the Tigers for years to come.
  25. Not ruling anything out. But to expect a rookie to come in and achieve instant success is not super realistic. Skenes is Skenes, and to find someone similar would take you back to Dwight Gooden in the mid 80s. 40 years ago. Even guys like Skubal take several years to become what they become. Verlander had one of the best rookie seasons for a pitcher in recent memory, but he didn't become the real dominant Verlander until he was 26. As far as the original poster saying he could come in as a rookie and provide 85% of Skubal provides is kind of overly optimistic.
