Cabrera was a natural hitter, but if you drink too much alcohol, eat too many pastries, not work out ever, you are washed up at 33.
-
I can't imagine the Tigers paying Bichette what he would command for a salary. Just not going to happen. Also, Ibanez is a great guy to have in the organization. He isn't going to hurt you at the plate and he can play competent defense at multiple positions. Even if he doesn't stick the whole year, he can play half the season at AAA and come up for injuries, etc
-
Why is anyone surprised he is going after Bassett? This is what Harris does. He signs guys for short term contracts hoping they can play above their skill level and those guys are people like Bassett who can never get a long term contract. If it works out, great. If not, he goes the way of Charlie Morten. It might be how he wants to run the team or Ilitch might have given him orders not to spend money. I would prefer Harris finds a solid major league pitcher and minor league FA's so he can have starting pitchers at AAA who can come up and make 4 or 5 starts after Olson, Mize, and the others have their annual trip to the IL.
-
They won't trade him in that situation. But if they are 6 games out, what happens? Harris will want to trade him. Ilitch will probably be okay with trading him.
-
I think Harris's priority is different than a fan's priority. I want the Tigers to win the World Series. Harris wants the Tigers to be competitive while pinching pennies and hoping in yhe future the guys in the minors can come up and keep the team above .500. He wants to not get fired so he doesn't spend money or trade any magic beans for guys that can help the team. If everything works out like they have the last 2 seasons, that is all he cares about.

I just don't see how Skubal even entertains the idea of signing a long term contract with the Tigers. He wants to win a WS title. Everything will need to play out perfectly for that to happen in Detroit. A penny pinching owner and a GM who is petrified to make any moves to try to improve the team doesn't play out well for the long term. Skubal doesn't care about how maybe the guys in AA will work out and become competent mlb players in the next 4 to 7 years... by that time the core of players on this current iteration of the Tigers will be playing somewhere else. Can this group get it done without adding talent to the roster? I don't think it can and Skubal knows that too. "The World Series should be the standard from everyone in the organization" comment he made sure sounds like he lacks confidence in the front office. He'll be gone by the trade deadline.
-
I believe the Tigers know there is 0% chance their FA offer to Skubal will even be remotely competitive to offers from the Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Yankees, Rangers, Giants, etc. They know Skubal will not sign with the Tigers because he wants to win and the Tigers aren't going to spend for top tier FA's like the other teams I mentioned. Their payroll is so much lower than the other teams and that affects the players that the team can put around him. For the Tigers or any team with a low payroll to compete, things have to fall in place perfectly for them. And the last 2 years have been best case scenario for the Tigers. Look at this off season: the Tigers have done basically nothing to improve.

I have no idea what he tried to do. There are online rumors, which I take with a grain of salt as to what he tried to do or who he offered in return for whatever players that were out there. The fact is he brought in two atrocious pitchers that lost games after game. He didn't accomplish anything to help the team win other than sit back and hope everything worked out for the best. Is it the best strategy? I have no idea but it didn't work out.
-
He was unwilling to part with any prospects for the stretch run. His attitude seemed to be if the current team wins it will be in spite of me because I am keeping all the magic beans in the minors. It seems he only cares how the team will do when "his" guys get up to the majors and last year was an oops...we made the playoffs somehow. I don't agree with his philosophy but obvious he has his cheerleaders and detractors on here. He didn't do anything to improve the team at the beginning of last year and he hurt the team by picking up a perennial candidate for worst starter of the year in Paddock and a guy who has been washed up for 3 years in Morton at the trade deadline. Doesn't appear as if there is a priority to do anything for 2026 other than hope things somehow miraculously work out again.

Those guys are toast. They can't hit mlb pitching. Sweeney might have a future as a utility player, but Jung's defensive liabilities limits his usefulness. If he isn't hitting he offers nothing of value. He only has one position: 3rd base. They already have Colt Keith, another guy who sucks defensively on the roster. Vierling will be in the running for 3rd base, if healthy. Plus all the younger prospects in the organization are going to jump ahead of them. If McGonigle is as good of a hitter as people think, he will force the Tigers hand to get up to the majors sometime next season. They will have to play him somewhere. I think Jung only makes the opening day roster if there are several injuries; he's just AAA depth. Sweeney might have a shot at the roster as the last utility guy because he can probably play multiple positions.
-
Not sure if people just make stuff up or just repeat what other people say without actually knowing. Jung had .257/.377/.454 slash line in AAA in 2024. Not awful but not "well" Sweeney in AAA before 2025 slashed .267/.345/.450. Once again, okay but not eye opening by any stretch of the imagination. And he didn't contribute much to the 2024 Tigers playoff run. .218/.269/.373.

Harris really hasn't done much to improve the current roster. Outside of the bullpen and Torres, all the players were guys that were already here when he took over. Things just kind of worked out for him so far. He gave minimal effort to try to improve the roster at the trade deadline. Having Sweeney and Jung as starting SS and 3rd baseman going into last season was just a terrible decision. His FA signings have been bad, his trades have been even worse. We'll see how his draft picks pan out. Having highly rated prospects isn't the same as having accomplished mlb players.
-
How about starting 2025 out with Trey Sweeney and Jace Jung at SS and 3rd? Neither of those guys are even below average mlb players. That was inexcusable.
-
Sure, it's fun and exciting following a team, but if it really affects someone's life when they lose, that person needs to take a step back. If you are smashing TVs or become depressed became a team lost...I just don't know what to say.

In 2024 he made over $700 k. He can always find employment outside of baseball like everyone else does.
-
Sorry if you are that fragile, but does it really make any difference in your life? If you say yes, then you have a very unfulfilled existence.
-
The outcome of a game never has much of an impact on your life. People who go psycho over a group of professional athletes playing for millions of dollars really do need to re-assess their lives.

Piss poor managing played a part in the loss. Schneider trying to prove how much smarter he is than everyone else. Sounds like a Tiger's manager.
-
And the Dodgers had 2 WS stolen from them by the cheating Astros and Red Sox
-
Giving up one of your 3 outs in that situation is idiotic. A guy on 2nd with no outs is much better than a guy on 3rd with 1 out. Similarly, I really hate watching McKinstry get thrown out at 3rd by his stupid ass base running, especially to make the final out of the inning.
-
It's a good thing John Schneider took a guy who had been crushing the ball all night out of the game. Much rather have Kiner in there for a big at bat. Why do these managers always take out their best offensive players in close games? Proving once again that managers rarely make decisions that win games but sure do make decisions that contribute to losing games.
-
If the Dodgers can't win this at least they will have Skubal as their ace in 2027.
-
Tom Brookens aka Davis Schneider getting a pinch hit AB
-
Aaron Glenn is probably the worst head coach in the league. He looks clueless on the sidelines. Not sure why he got a job in the first place but I'm happy he's gone.
-
They just need to make it as painful as possible on Hurts when he does it. Bodies eventually wear out.
