  1. He's the only guy (though sometimes Wingenter as well) - starting or relief pitcher - that makes me cringe when he toes the rubber.
  2. Parker Meadows definitely needs to be in CF now and in the future. His strides allow him to make plays on his feet that Greene has to lay himself out for.
  3. I wondered that myself when Escobar toed the rubber. I can't recall it ever happening, but I'm sure it must have. I'm old.
  4. Welp....I had gone to several games with my son (Indians fan.....I know, I know! I failed somewhere, but that's a topic for another thread) and never saw the Tigers lose. He takes me to CoPa (limited to a tight time off window from his band activity) hoping we get to see Verlander pitch (that was next day). Funny thing this game. Tigs never showed up. 😞
  5. Boy oh boy...this Angels team is a pale shade of the team that ran roughshod over the Tigers earlier in Detroit. Guess hanging on to Shohei and making a run for it kinda blew up in their faces. Worst team in baseball since the trade deadline. Maybe this will be a fun series after all.
  6. Agreed, but it was against the Angels that some Halo bunted in the infamous Verlander v Jared Weaver classic in 2012 (the one where Weaver got tossed after almost beaning Alex Avila after Guillen homered and showboated in retaliation for JW jawing at Maggs for "watching" one he hit and made sure it stayed fair) and Verlander had a no-hitter going. And if any of you saw that game like I did, Verlander was PISSED and did his own eyeballing. This was late in the game. So yeah....in a late game situation like this one...bunting for a hit was (I would say) a little "bush-league". I came into this game in the bottom of the 7th. GREAT timing.
  7. Going from Lake City, PA, to this one today with my son. First time at CoPa! Hope I bring the boys good luck!
  8. What I'm getting a little peeved at is AJ's obsession with L/R (micro-managing a liiiiite too far) ABs. The other day he had Shorty PH in the 4th! and today PH Vierling for Baddoo.
  9. You just described Eugenio Suarez to a tee as well.
  10. I don't know if this was posted somewhere else, but what about this guy? https://williamsonsource.com/cumberland-slugger-cole-turney-inks-deal-with-detroit-tigers/
  11. I guess I'll concede the point with a shrug and "we'll never know".
  12. I would not say this after yesterday's game. You COULD however say it about a catcher who finds himself in LF and taking poor routes to line drives.
  13. Based on your conjecture? What of cases like Bo Jackson and Danny Ainge? Both excelled at 2 professional sports.
  14. Think the year you have in mind is 2005. Tram managing in his last year. Tigers were near/at .500 at the AS break, then went into the abyss. Something like 15-40.
  15. It's been mentioned by Tigers' broadcasters how different this team seems since the Baez benching against Toronto last month. Before: 2-9 After: 14-9 They seem more cohesive as a unit. More relaxed and seeing pitches much better; taking more pitches and making more solid contact, up and down the lineup. I don't share your pessimism, and I've been following since 1967. So long as no one (esp the media) expects anything out of them, I think they're going to exceed expectations this year. I wouldn't rule out a division title yet at all, but not much beyond that.
  16. Has anyone taken the time to look at our record outside of AL East? Against AL East: 2-14 (.125) Against all others:14-4 (.778) AL East is far and away the best division in baseball, and we had most of our early games against them. Tigers could be in 1st place easily by June if they continue this pace, and they're just starting to gel as a team now.
  17. I'm starting to believe. It's like DP said in the booth: "Tigers are playing like the season started on May 1."
  18. I'd heard recently that Skubal was slated for some bullpen sessions but no word since. Anyone heard anything further? Imagine him healthy in the rotation at this point. The way the boys are seeing the ball, good things are happening. If not for the meltdown inning Sunday in St.L, we'd have a 7 game win streak right now. Also, anyone heard any word on when Carpenter is due back? I see he's on the 10-day IL dating back to his crash on the wall. That should be up by now.
  19. I'm in the blackout zone (being within 75 miles of Cleveland in NW PA), so the point is moot for me. And thanks to #(%A&#* Yahoo! Sports for their total lack of stats other than play-by-play for the entire 2nd game!
