So if we are having a discussion about two different players, how can you do that without at least some consideration of data? I say this as someone who kind of agrees that data can be too heavily relied on at times... but that doesn't mean it doesn't matter or shouldn't be used in a baseball discussion either.

So what? He's a member of the 2022 Detroit Tigers and is absolutely a contributor to the short term success formula of this ballclub and he has been terrible on that front. And very few seem to notice (props to @kdog for staying on message there). And his lack of success at the plate definitely impacts his possibility of contributing to the long term success formula by not looking attractive to potential suiters at the trade deadline.... they'd be lucky to get a bag of stale sunflower seeds for him at this point lol So yeah, maybe he doesn't have a long term deal, but he somehow elides any scrutiny and it's really strange.

It's honestly confusing to me how people keep wanting to tee off on Javy, Schoop or Candy when Grossman, on the whole, has been underperforming much more than anyone else in the lineup right now. Even setting aside his career last year. I really like Robbie and want him to turn it around, but he hasn't been playing well and it was sort of aggravating to hear him try to blame the ballpark at one point for his troubles.... especially when he hits terribly both at home and on the road.

For me, it's not stats, it's the eye test.... I've seen both of them play in a Tiger uniform and one is clearly a better player than the other. The stats merely support the case. The question of whether Javy is living up to the big contract is fair, of course.... but that's a different matter than saying he's Neifi Perez.

Only six qualified batters in 2022 have an ISO lower than that shown by Neifi Perez above. (Unfortunately, Robbie Grossman is one of the six lol)

Not to mention the whole "maybe the Rays knew Austin Meadows had vertigo" narrative that seems to be popping up as well. Just stupid stuff. I'm happy for Paredes and wish him great success, but it was still the right trade to make in that moment. Unfortunately for us, it's 2022, and guys wearing the Old English D have found creative ways to end up on the IL.

Assuming you are referring to Eric De La Rosa? Carpenter's numbers are better and he's doing it all at AA, but there's a lot of "pumpkin" risk with him.... just surprising to see Alvarez out raising expectations like that, can't tell if he's just doing the usual hype job or if there's something there that people are missing.

He's the best defensive 2nd baseman in the league right now, and he's been one of the few guys in the lineup over the past week or two that has been hitting balls hard (along with Candy, Miggy and Tork)... and outside of Abraham Toro, he has one of the worst BABIP's in the league, suggesting a significant amount of bad luck. If you want to find a player to pick on, I'd suggest Robbie Grossman.... I like Robbie, but there's very little positive to say about his game at the moment.

We've seen this before with Brieske where a guy comes out of nowhere to get on folks radar, but it still easy to be skeptical. In the case of Carpenter, the strikeout rate is a little concerning.

The Tigers had trouble trading Schoop at the deadline last year when his numbers were relatively robust.... makes me think he'd get little to no return if you traded him now, two months before the deadline. Just ride him out as is for now.... the best version of this team has him in the lineup, and Kreidler isn't even 100% healthy or cleared to play games yet.
