  1. In the case of Mize, I feel like it's gone beyond consideration and more into declaration at this point. I do think Tenacious D' point is fair through, Skubal 2022 is sort of living proof that young pitchers can struggle yet improve over time. These guys are still developing.
  2. I'd be curious to hear G2 or Lee's thoughts, but I'm not sure that I agree with the standard that all #1 draft picks who aren't bona fide studs are failures. Particularly with the fact that there's a not insignificant amount of first round picks who don't even make the big leagues.
  3. The status as a first rounder is something people get really hung up on... particularly with Mize. And I get it, with the higher selection comes higher expectations. But in the alternate world where Mize or Faedo or Manning are studs and the others are serviceable, is the end result any different?
  4. Yup. Can't be trusted to teach history, but also, you need to arm up.
  5. This is kinda where I'm at. I have a lot of concerns about Mize, but if Skubal remains a stud and Manning/Faedo are serviceable, that's a fine result.
  6. Buried the lead... AJ seems happy
  7. Mental health, as always, is always a talking point specially designed to run out the clock until the next outrage that overtakes the newscycle. For that matter, the "hardening schools" talking points fit the same purpose. It's a lot more politically convenient to trot these out than for politicians to explicitly say they don't care about the victims of these tragedies.
  8. Probably, I've been listening more to DD and/or opponent announcers this season so maybe I've missed some other hot takes lol
  9. Exactly. The criticism of the video is a second order effect of the cops, it would appear, not adequately handling this situation.
  10. I get it. But it almost feels like the criticism of the video is tied in with the fact that we are now learning that the cops weren't doing their job well in this moment

  12. "I'm not making excuses for the cops but [insert excuses here]"
  13. Wonder if the Tigers hitters will be able to get to Cy Pilkington?
  14. Uvalde actually has a SWAT unit fwiw...
  15. For sure. For me, driving around where I live, you constantly see the "thin blue line" flags and all the virtue signaling about the cops, most of which is a reaction to BLM protests one imagines. Yet for all the flags and bumper sticker decals, cops aren't perfect... they are human just like anyone else. And as such shouldn't be above criticism or scrutiny. The events a couple of days ago are a case in point. All evidence points thus far to failure on the part of those responding to this incident.
  16. Now now now, don't be critical of cops... you'll be accused of not Backing the Blue sufficiently!
  17. The details just get worse
