Really wonder what Xi is thinking about all of this. We know the public facing statements, but internally, I wonder if there's a point where the negatives of looking the other way (if not allying) with Putin start to outweigh the positives.

Gotta take all of this stuff with a grain of salt.... Having said that, it's pretty clear that this isn't going as well as the Russians had hoped. Things can obviously change, but morale must be pretty terrible for them at the moment

Well, one thing seems clear: the Ukrainian citizenry apparently didn't watch that John Mearsheimer lecture.

The only argument I could see is that it may lead Russia to take western outlets off their air (ie. BBC). Which may not be a trade worth making considering how few people actually watch RT in America. Idk tho
