  1. Ahh, we have to wait for the lunatic to decide what he wants to do. Awesome
  2. Within Russia itself, I don't know. But it doesn't surprise me coming from Putin... Steven Lee Meyers (of the NYT) wrote a book about him a few years back that really emphasized that Tsarism was more his north star than the Soviet years
  3. The reactions from the right about how Trump would handle this are something else... The guy literally blackmailed Ukraine with weapons they need for defense. That tells me everything I need to know about how Trump would handle this.
  4. That's the one. I'd call her a "useful idiot", but I'm not sure "useful" fits the bill
  5. Another one who must be on the take...
  6. We should probably rename the Vlad thread "Cleanup on Aisle Lunatic 2: Electric Boogaloo"
  7. After all of this, It really was never about NATO membership... he's just mad that the USSR collapsed and many of the Republics went their own separate way. What a small, small man.
  8. In his address now, Putin doesnt sound like a guy who feels that *any* former Republics are legitimate, let alone Ukraine. If I'm the Baltics, do I really believe that NATO membership means I'm untouchable to this unhinged man?
  9. Good for her....
  10. Prince Frozen Dinner has thoughts on entitlement...
  11. I wonder if we'll get the same amount of hours and A1 above-the-fold stories for this records scandal as we did for the last one 🤔
  12. But (yeah) Her (yeah) Emails (yeah) (Yeah, yeah)
  13. Oh my... they filmed the video two days ago?
  14. They have a sizable part of the population that is pro-Russian, but it is smaller than it has ever been numbers-wise (at least based on a couple of polls recently showing feelings toward the west / interest in NATO membership at an all time high). Which makes sense when you consider how Russia's actions in the east have damaged the economy... Either way, I don't think anyone would dispute that we aren't going to war in Ukraine, or that Ukraine will not be extended NATO membership, but I see absolutely zero problem arming them and doing what we can to help fight off subjugation to the best of their abilities.
  15. Our protests were relatively peaceful, but IIRC, there was one incident when protestors unlawfully blocked public ROW (a bridge spanning the Trinity River) and they were arrested pretty quickly. They weren't given a week like the ones in Windsor.
  16. Sounds about right to me. I guess I don't understand the complaint on this one. Canada is a sovereign nation and is free to exercise whatever laws it has on the books to disperse unlawful protests. Just as many police departments did during the George Floyd protests. And just as it isnt fair to associate all of those who are supportive of lifting COVID restrictions with the means and methods used at these border protests or every Trump voter with January 6th, not everyone who supported the message of the George Floyd protests advocated violence or looting.
  17. I guess I'm unclear of when Occupy shut down much of anything, let alone roads and bridges
  18. Assuming that bridge is located in the Exclusion Zone, I don't exactly envy the crew that was asked to do it.
  19. Wasn't King arrested over 20 times?
  20. People in RW Twitter (and far lefty Twitter for that matter) are never gonna be satisfied with anything this administration does on Ukraine. Regardless of whether there is invasion (ie. The US looks weak, all Biden's fault) or not (ie. Biden was just being alarmist, needless provacative, trying to goose weapons sales, etc.)
  21. Obama probably wins regardless, but the "shutting down the campaign" thing probably did more damage than any one factor. I was also struck by contemporaneous accounts of the meeting that Bush had with Obama/McCain at The White House and how even the Bush people seemed to feel McCain was out of his depth on the subject of the collapse. McCain was a gifted politician and a true statesman, but he was a foreign policy guy arguing the status quo (ie. largely unpopular at the time) running in an election dominated at the end by financial issues and the economy. Even setting aside the poor fundamentals for any GOP candidate, the election cycle didn't play to his own personal strengths at all. As for Palin, my best guess is that she was a wash. She may have brought out a few more conservatives, but I seem to recall at the time that, by the end of the campaign, she wasn't all that popular with the general public as a whole. But I'd have to look that up, it's been a while
  22. I hadn't heard him in years after moving out if state, but he was good on the radio both in his announcing and his commentating. Seemed like a really decent man and its a tough loss.
  23. Huh, turns out these folks don't speak for the people after all
