  1. Donald Trump has frequently said he would resolve inflation and cost of living issues, and would do so in short order. Yet many of his proposals (such as his tariff plans, healthcare, various cuts being proposed under the auspices of DOGE, etc.) would, taken to their logical end, would increase inflation. Exit polling post-election, as well as general over the past week or so, indicates that despite the marked lack of discussion from his transition team as to the economy and cost issues (they have largely talked about immigration and culture war issues instead), this is the number one reason he won and remains the number one issue for voters So what's the plan? What's he gonna do? Is he prepared to deal with any of this when he takes the oath? If and when costs begin to rise at a faster pace, how much rope does he get? Because I have seen zero indication whatsoever that he'll make my life any better on that front
  2. Cat got your tongue, Hoss? Curious how inflation and cost of consumer goods magically disappeared from the zeitgeist on 6 November...
  3. If history is any indicator, it very well could be for the GOP lol
  4. I don't particularly care one way or another, I just find it amusing to see Fox News (who themselves shelled out upwards of $800 million dollars for defamation), of all outlets, crowing about another network defaming another person or entity.
  5. With Biden approval, when pollsters provide it, I find it interesting that when they include categories of disapproval (ie. soft disapproval, strong disapproval, etc.), they tend to show a high number of soft disapprovers than is generally seen with a figure like Trump (for whom there are a lot less people who have "soft" views) Maybe there's another explanation, but that sort of tracks with what I'm getting at IMO.
  6. Two points: CNN, like all cable news networks, sucks. Glad to see them called out on bad reporting and held accountable for it. Linking to a Fox News article talking about another network settling a defamation lawsuit is *chef's kiss*
  7. Also with regards to Biden's approval, I voted for him in 2020 and Kamala in 2024. Yet if a pollster called me up and asked if I approved or disapproved of Biden, I'd answer "disapprove". Particularly him staying in the race way too long and not bowing out, along with other issues surrounding how he followed through on policy (namely the border and Ukraine) I suspect that I'm not the only one. Something to consider - there's likely a not-insignificant subset of the disapprovers who track as reliable D voters who don't like Trump or the GOP
  8. The apples-apples comparison is to how Biden entered office - he had a 54% approval rating per 538, Trump has a 47% approval rating and is 1 point below water (47-48). https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/favorability/donald-trump/ More or less matching what happened in term one (and if we recall what happened there, he never was more popular than the day he was inaugurated) I don't know what will happen going forward, but historically speaking, candidates upon being inaugurated to office have higher approval ratings 47%. And they generally see their ratings go down as Presidents implement (and overreach) on their policy initiatives (see: thermostatic response)
  9. I have no idea what he would draw if they held it outdoors, but the waning days of the campaign where he was drawing poor crowd sizes stick out to me. The fact that he managed to win has really obscured the fact that he's.... not that beloved a figure?
  10. "President Trump will work from early in the morning until late in the evening. He will make many calls and have many meetings."
  11. Speaking of work, can you update us on what Donald Trump plans to do on day one to lower the cost of consumer goods?
  12. 100-200 agents in a city of 3 million. We call that a PR stunt.
  13. Most folks don't care about the inauguration at all lol
  14. I'll say it again, it's amazing how Ephesians 5:25 goes out the window when anyone in Trump's orbit is involved. Moral relativism all around in Trump's GOP.
  15. Obama, Clinton and Bush are all skipping last I heard.
  16. I would add the fact that Trump used to agree but, due to millions of dollars from Jeff Yass, had a "change of heart" objectively seems.... kinda fishy.
  17. I never said this? Not sure what you're getting at. It's a commentary on guys like Bondy, a guy who bills himself as a "independent journalist" yet is apparently not interested or capable of doing even a small bit of research that would inform those who read his content that the claim he amplified, at best, lacked context. If not being outright untrue. It's literally the opposite of journalism.... to your credit you were skeptical, but there are others that will share it uncritically and just take it as truth without doing a bit of research. Just my two cents, but that's a breach of trust.... the question to ask is if he's willing to lie and misinform here, what else is he willing to lie and misinform about?
  18. It is curious how people will say they "do their own research", yet "doing their own research" ends up meaning reading / sharing / amplifying sources of information that frequently omit details about the subject they are talking about. It's not the first time I've seen it from Bondy. Also worth noting that the source of information that G2 provided is an LLP that, among other things, practices in labor law, not a political blogger. They have incentive to correctly interpret the law because their bottom line depends on being able to interpret the law. Dave Bondy's bottom line, OTOH, depends on generating clicks and giving his consumers their dopamine hit of rage. Sorry if that comes across harsh, but it's just brutal honesty that people don't really "do their own research" as much as they think they do.
  19. It's also just hard in this country to win three straight elections as an incumbent party..... Reagan/Bush was the exception to the rule, not the standard.
  20. You gotta take anything Dave Bondy says or amplifies with about a truckloads worth of Morton Salt.
  21. I'll probably invite fire from both sides on this, but the absolute worst people to talk to about "the other side" are people on the other end of the spectrum from that other side. (and yes, that goes both ways) In terms of 2020, Biden did an effective job of consolidating a large number of groups to vote, including those on the left. But a lot of that was out of sheer pragmatism and the fact that Trump himself was an unpopular figure at the time of the 2020 election who was seen to have botched the ongoing pandemic at that time. Biden did a lot of stuff during his term to try to placate the left, but acting like he was a creature of that wing of the D Party or that he was beloved by that wing, that's just not reality.
  22. It's honestly amazing how the word "inflation" just disappeared from Trump and his team's lexicon after November 5. Which is a tell.
  23. I mean, if everyone aside from those who spend 80% of their free time following the likes of Catturd and End Wokeness on social doesn't recognize the troll, that seems like like pretty ineffective trolling Also, what's up with his right eye?
  24. The flip side of this, though, goes back to the discussion about Trump's historically low approval rating for an incoming President (mirroring his first term), despite the relatively favorable media coverage and obseqious toadying by the Elon's and Bezos's and Zuck's of the world: Trump's secret sauce for winning the election wasn't any special love for Trump or the American people thinking he's a genius or loving everything about his platform: it's that the American people wanted to punish the current administration. I'll let history sort our Biden's place in the rankings, but his approval rating leaving office kinda makes Trump's win (~200k votes across 3 states) seem even less impressive in retrospect.
