Detroit quickly changed their reputation as a cute loser to a winning culture. I have never seen a team change their reputation so quickly.

I don't know s**t about any of the players who got drafted, but I think the Packers will be the Lions biggest competition in the division going forward based on their history and the fact that their QB is more proven than Chicago's and Minny's.

Yup. Green Bay finished the season 6-2, smoked Dallas IN Dallas and then gave SF a scare. Love looks like the real deal. I'm glad the Lions are better...

He’s already had an error.  It was one of his first games with Detroit.  He was in RF and Meadows was in CF.  There was a fly ball between them, Meadows was calling for it but yielded to Perez.  Neither caught it, multibase error to Perez.  I remember noting how most of Perez’ OF experience was in CF and questioned if they were both calling for it.

I didn't know they gave him an error on that play. I remember thinking it was Meadows fault, a CF is supposed to take charge.

Is Kennedy out of options?  I would think he gets the Hens hat when Ibanez comes back.  Ibanez could factor into the 2B/3B mix without upsetting the OF apple cart much at all right now.

The first error Perez makes in the OF will have posters calling for his head. 😅😅

I just want Meadows to be a reasonable bottom of the order hitter right now.  Torkelson needs to provide offense.  I expect Keith to catch on at some point this season.  That should make an average top half of the lineup with Greene, Canha, and Carpenter.

Hopefully Rogers/Kelly can form a respectable catching duo.  Baez, just get around 100 OPS+, play that defense and create havoc when on the base paths.  I think Vierling can have a nice slightly above 100 OPS+ at 3B.  That should allow Meadows to play defense and not worry about offense too much for now.

I think if the Tigers can get that type of production, they’ll be fine.

Agreed. Especially with how well their pitching is doing. It was encouraging to see Meadows use the opposite field. Going the other way or bunting can get players out of a slump, sometimes. I've been waiting for Meadows to lay down a bunt, use his natural speed.

Wenceel Perez is living the dream.  His post game interview with Trevor Thompson, man, you can just tell he’s on cloud nine.  He mentioned calling his folks after the game and hoping they could come see him play.  The Tigers need to make that happen and presumably they’re working on it.

Then they showed Perez meeting the 6 year old who “caught” his home run ball and his family on the field.  That’s good stuff.

Perez seems to have brought a bit of a spark to Detroit.  For sure he’s passed by Baddoo on the depth chart.  Someone else mentioned it elsewhere, but he kind off fell of the radar a season or two ago but resurfaced as a prospect.  Got to love it.

I say this every year when a guy comes up from Toledo and has a bit of success...some players are better at the ML level for a variety of reasons. Better field conditions, pitchers more around the plate, better lighting, less travel and better nutrition. It makes sense if true.

I love speed on the base paths to create that press and speed on defense to take away some of marginally open areas.  For as long as they’ve been playing at Commercial Park, I’ve wanted to see range in the outfield.  Greene and Meadows can provide that.  Hopefully Meadows can climb out of his slump and avoid a refresher in Toledo.

Meadows could really make a difference if he could only get on base more consistently. He would be an excellent leadoff hitter. As it is, how about Perez hitting leadoff? I don't like Greene leading off because no matter when he bats, there are black holes hitting before him. I would rather see guys on base for him. Especially if Tork keeps tanking.

Robertson was not drafted by Detroit. Acquired in a trade for Mark Redman, and had already pitched for the Marlins before the trade. Similar to Boyd in that regard.

Yeah, I think I remember that now. So Skubal works up the list even more of LH pitchers drafted and developed by Detroit. And there's a lot of years between Lolich and Skubal.

I was curious so went over to Fangraphs and got LHP fWAR for Tigers since 1975.

    • Frank Tanana 18.1
    • Justin Thompson 11.2
    • Matthew Boyd 10.5
    • Nate Robertson 9.2
    • Tarik Skubal 7.7
    • David Wells 7.5
    • Mike Maroth 6.9
    • David Price 6.4
    • Daniel Norris 6.0
    • Willie Hernandez 5.7

Great list. I should have been more specific....pitchers drafted and developed by Detroit. Thompson, Robertson and then Skubal. And Skubal moving on up!

I was thinking the same thing.  Manu is safe based on his draft status.  I know they like Mahogany but he’s a 6th round pick and on good teams these guys have to beat someone to make the roster.  He’s going to have the advantage as they want to keep him but he’s going to have to play close to the level of Awosika for a spot on the roster (barring other injuries).

We should have some decent depth on our practice squad.

I think there is an implicit assumption that if we had Moody or Bates or (insert a power-legged reliable kicker) that Campbell wouldn't have gone for it in those situations, and I'm not sure that's necessarily true. We attribute some degree of Campbell's aggressiveness to the fact that our kicker is in the bottom third of the league, but we don't know that he wouldn't be just as aggressive with the best kicker in the league.

I think common sense is that he would go about his decision-making differently, but I would suspect that part of the calculus in Holmes' mind about deciding the resources to devote to the kicker position is in the fact that our head coach does not value field goals as much as the average NFL head coach.

And his aggressiveness, all season long, makes Campbell a fan favorite. I read somewhere that more teams should play the percentages and go for it on 4th downs. I love him doing it!

  12. It felt like the Tigers should have been down big in the first few innings. KC totally outplayed us and we were bumbling around. But again, a late comeback and we pull one out. 4 errors in a win is pretty rare. But I like our chances tomorrow to win the series. Skubal is a beast!

Gibby's no where close to CMo's constant slurpfest...hell, Gibby's already either been critical or ominously silent after bad things happening this game all night; whereas CMo would have made excuses and spun spun spun it all into a poop sandwich of "positivity".

    True...Monroe irritates me.

I guess we're rolling with Badgley unless we sign a UDFA or bring in a camp body.

The problem in the NFC Championship game was Dan didn't even attempt what could have been winning kicks. He could have made up to 45 yard kicks. Campbell really gambles on those 4th downs, all season long. High success rate, too. Hopefully, we'll keep winning without clutch kicks.

I like Gibby because he'll just be quiet and professional after a ****ty Tiger play and not say what's really on his mind, whereas CMo will turn himself into a pretzel frog trying to spit shine a turd

Are you kidding? He makes excuses for our mistakes. Bad hop...cut of the grass...every time.

So no WR and no kicker in this draft. I really hope Michael Badgley isn't their only plan at kicker.

Badgley made a 54 yard fg that ended up being the winning points against the Rams.
