  1. I mostly meant that I prefer Malloy as a platoon DH vs LHP than I do Torkelson at this point. If one was to be an every day player, I’d take Torkelson
  2. Torkelson has had 1500 plate appearances of being a below 100 ops+ first baseman and it’s not like he makes up for it with defense. I’m not saying we should dump Tork, but what’s his role at this point on the ML club after moving Keith and signing Torres? Are we gonna use a roster spot on a guy to be a backup first baseman or a platoon DH? I don’t see it when McKinstry can play anywhere, Ibanez mashes lefties and Wenceel switch hits and can play all three OF spots. I also trust Malloy more as a DH platoon at this point. Tork has to be a plus hitter to make this team right now and for the future. Jung just needs a chance to play before we fully determine what we’ve got with him. It’ll be moot anyway once McGonigle comes up and also possibly Lee. So I’m not sky high on Jung—but he does play positions that we don’t have long term answers for right now, so there’s a reason to give him a look.
  3. Then Tork needs to absolutely mash at Toledo and play improved defense to make it back up. Jung gets an extended time to play either 2B or 3B with a healthy wrist to see what he’s fully capable of- and if we are out of contention come August/September, then we sell off Gleyber to the highest bidder and bring up Jung. Whichever of Wenceel and Malloy doesn’t make the team is the one on the fast track to Detroit in the event of an injury since we could move Vierling to 3B if it’s an infield injury. And if Hao Yu Lee surpasses Jung at Toledo, then so be it.
  4. I’d rather be able to sign pitchers and have to develop hitters than the other way around.
  5. I can see a world where Jung doesn’t make the team out of ST, and we platoon McKinstry and Ibanez at 3B. C- Rogers, Dingler IF- Keith, Torres, Sweeney, Baez, McKinstry, Ibanez OF- Greene, Meadows, Vierling, Carpenter, and Perez/Malloy. This way they option down Tork, Jung and the other or Perez/Malloy and don’t have to DFA McKinstry since he’s out of options and Hinch has his Swiss Army knife defensively for pinch hitting situations.
  6. Especially because he’s probably going to be the 6th or 7th guy in the pen.
  7. Tigers sign Reliever John Brebbia
  8. Congratulations Mason on splitting the 2025 Cy Young with Alex Faedo
  9. Don’t forget Gary Matthew’s Jr and Vernon Wells
  10. Gotta figure we will at least move SGL there, which frees up a 40 man spot for now
  11. Remember the one time the Sharks dared Deuce to jump his 10 speed over Stutton Creek, so he attached bottle rockets to his spokes to give him an extra boost and one bottle rocket flew off and went into Tammy Gundersons hair? Deuce totally would’ve made that jump too if it wasn’t so windy that day.
  12. Englert had his chances and never showed much of anything. Maybe he will get better over time but thats not worth our organization needing to find out at this point.
  13. I see the “Moe Howard” is apparently still a viable hairstyle in Japan….
  14. Keith would end up getting moved in a couple seasons for McGonigle anyway.
  15. I’d assume Gipson-Long would go to the 60-Day. Have we heard anything about Langes timeline?
  16. I feel like at this point it’s pretty obvious that Bregman doesn’t want to come here and that if he does settle with us, it’ll just be because we give him the most money. I think that he would actively hurt the morale and identity of the team that’s been built. Just roll with Vierling and Jung. Vierling has been an A+ guy to root for, and him playing 3B helps keep Wenceel in the regular lineup.
  17. Bregman signing with the Tigers for 10 years 350 million. Torkelson traded to the Rockies for Kris Bryant Source:
  18. Torkelson for Jon Dowd seems fair
  19. I would be irritated if we moved on from Ibanez because he consistently serves his purpose of crushing LHPs. I low key feel like they’d be willing to send Sweeney and/or Jung down to Toledo in the interest of keeping McKinstry because we need the infield depth for the time being and it’d be easier to just use options rather than move on from a guy completely right now. I can see that being the first half of the season roster strategy especially if Baez is healthy and rostered.
  20. So at this point are we figuring that the pitching staff will probably be: Skubal, Flaherty, Olson, Cobb, Mize in the rotation. Vest, Brieske, Foley, Kahnle, Holton, Hurter, Maeda and one of Guenther/Hanifee/Englert as the bullpen. Jobe, Manning, Montero, Madden and Flores or Lockhart as the Toledo rotation SGL and Lange start on the DL. If that’s the case I wouldn’t mind finding one more bullpen arm. Maybe like a Phil Maton/David Robertson/Andrew Chafin (again)
  21. Or Carlos Pena, or Isaac Paredes, or Matt Joyce, or Willy Adames….
  22. Please don’t use Maeda tomorrow….
  23. First game is the 22nd, so it’s 19
