  1. Mccosky just tweeted the average exit velo on Jobes fastball was 99 mph. Yikes. Has always been my issue with him.
  2. Jobe has such a hittable fastball. I know it’s small sample size, but wow does he get hit hard.
  3. I don’t see Briceño as a future all star, but Tork is averaging about 1 WAR over last 4 years. If we can’t get anything useful for Tork, I think we just need him to be the next Jahmai Jones.
  4. I think it comes down to a) his defense and b) Briceño. Briceño has a 950 ops in the minors and has reached AAA. Ideally Tork would have 350 ABs at DH/1B/PH alongside Briceño and Carp but probably not room for all 3. I think one of carp or Tork will need to get traded this offseason.
  5. I am intrigued by Hope sometime next year, but more interested in Briceño. I’m legit think he is better than Tork today. Any chance he comes up this year? Or to start next year? Of all of Scottie’s moves, rolling out the corpse of Trey Sweeney instead of McGonigle late last year is the most indefensible. Slightly ahead of Outman over Clark this year.
  6. I have been thinking about this and ultimately I would still be pro trade. So much can play out differently. If they make it that far, it’s safe to say someone else on staff stepped up. Who knows how things would play out with Skubal and Mize. If they make the playoffs, regardless of what happens, I would consider deadline a positive. For some reason I am even more engaged on this season without Skubal and Mize. Ultimately baseball is just a form of entertainment and I enjoy in equal parts rooting for the present team and dreaming on the future, so right now I find this season as the best of both of those worlds.
  7. Great article and really highlights how Ryan is viewed. He was arguably a bigger piece than Hope.
  8. I agree with the need for 8+ starters. But I think the plan is Valdez, Melton, Olson, Jobe, Ryan with Anderson and Montero two long relievers with starting potential. Madden/SGL in Toledo. And I still think we sign one FA starter on short term deal. I hope that’s Flaherty. In the unlikely case everyone is healthy, that’s good bullpen competition. I also think Jobe, Olson, and Ryan should start with innings limitations which makes Anderson/Montero (Hurter and De Jesus) more useful as MIRPs.
  9. And solid but not amazing K rate. Good prospect but never had amazing underlying stats in line with a top 5-10 prospect. Thrilled he’s a Tiger just have moderate expectations. River Ryan had higher K rate, better K/BB in minors and I think those are more predictive. Obviously need to consider age but also limited experience Ryan had as a pitcher.
  10. But overall I really like how our rotation sets up next year with Valdez, Melton, Ryan, Jobe, Olson, Montero/Anderson/De Jesus. Most likely we sign a Scott Harris **** sandwich special (Maeda, Cobb, Verlander). I actually hope that is Flaherty for next year. Someone will get hurt but that’s a solid group.
  11. Jobe had the 100mph fastball but very poor extension. He never had amazing results in the minors. He was hyped based on radar gun and draft status. I would be thrilled if he turned into a solid number 4 or 5 starter. I think Ryan can be a 2-3. Obviously both have injury risk.
  12. Agree and I don’t know why this is even debatable. I would take River Ryan over Jobe any day. It’s just he is old relative to prospects so people lose sight of the fact that you are acquiring his contract and he is cheap for the next 4-5 years, which lines up with his prime. The Brewers prospects other than Made weren’t that interesting, especially if reports are true they wouldn’t include a pitcher.
  13. Averaging 3k/9. How can someone so bad be on this team? Not sure who is trolling us more, Harris for having him on roster or Hinch for using him in high leverage situation.
  14. Wonder if Riley will start doing some work at 1B. Tork is bad and needs to be upgraded. Hope should be up sometime next year, but Greenes defense is declining and seems like a Harper like position change will need to happen soon. Meadows and someone like Magleri could platoon in OF. Briceño or Carp and Valcenia split time at DH. I still think Meadows as platoon/defensive sub has value, but especially if Greene moves to 1B (gradually, until Hope comes up). Meadows/Hope/Clark Riley/McKinstry/McG/Keith Briceno or Carp as DH Dingler with bench of Valencia/Max A or Lee/Magleri or similar/Baez Defense would be massively improved. I think Meadows has real value in this scenario.
  15. I am no expert on this, but my understanding is that signing an extension means no comp pick is awarded for a ROY win. The timing of Clark’s promotion (ie waiting another week or two would have preserved his rookie elegibility) didn’t make sense in context of a team selling. Maybe a sign tigers expect an extension? Could also be tigers don’t have as much hope in Clark’s chances to win ROY…
  16. Would have liked to see Gleyber traded both for the return and to see what we have in Max, but overall perfectly whelmed by both trades. Nice to see some arms in minors (I see 7 interesting arms with Mayfield, Jacobs, Smith, Witherspoon, Salcedo, Spears, and Miller). Prices for BP help were high so I can understand not playing in that market. Valdez/Melton/Flaherty/Montero with Jobe and Ryan coming soon. Sommers/Anderson/Madden/De Jesus/Holton/Jansen/Finnegan Potentially Hurter and (doubtfully) Verlander. Not sure how much of a realistic upgrade was out there without trading a top 10 prospect.
  17. Still hoping Mize and Torres get moved. I read that River Ryan will be back at end of August. Jobe is probably ready this week. Is Ryan and/or Jobe a huge downgrade compared to Mize over a handful of starts? Ditto for Gleyber compared to Anderson. Both would be downgrades, but not meaningfully, so I would move if we can get an interesting return.
  18. Gleyber needs to be moved. Not only a FA, but Tigers need to figure out if Lee, Anderson, and/or Jung are worthy of being on a good mlb roster. Valdez/Melton/Olson/Jobe/River Ryan/Montero and FA or 2. Hopefully that is enough to build a solid rotation going in to next year. Need to get something for Mize. I would probably keep Flaherty unless tigs actually get something decent
  19. Smart dodger fans shocked this was all they had to give up. Mlbtradevalues model has it as an underpay by the dodgers. That model is giving little value to smith and Ryan. How you value this trade depends on what you think of those two pieces. Smith actually sounds like an interesting piece. I assume Ryan goes into the rotation.
  20. Do we get a pick if we offer Flaherty a QO? Didn’t he accept a QO and therefore not eligible again (assuming no changes to cba)?
  21. Sorry if I missed it but does this include career war with all teams or just tigers (I know the peak is just tigers).
  22. I actually think that is the most risk averse position to take. Assuming Torres is back, we could still use one infielder, an upgrade on Tork, a DH, and two OFs. Lots of easy upgrades. And the downgrade from Skubal to say Verlander/Jobe/Montero, while significant, could largely be offset by the right moves and position the team better for the long haul. Assuming we get prospects for Skubal, what could we get if we flipped some of those plus carp and/or Tork? This is where DD was useful but I don’t think Scottie is as imaginative.
  23. Obviously need to see where the team is at the deadline, but if we are within say 3 games, I wonder if there is a middle ground. Trade Skubal and get someone MLB ready (or flip a prospect or two for young MLB talent to a 3rd team). With Valdez, Flaherty, Mize, Melton, and Montero/Verlander/Jobe, rotation should still be fine this year. There are so many holes to fill where an upgrade could go a long way (especially CF/RF/ and 3B or SS). Scottie seems so risk averse that he just holds Skubal, but I don’t see how you can let him walk unless playoffs are a guarantee.
  24. Who replaces Javy? 1B: Tork 2B: Torres 3B: Lee/Keith SS: McGonigle RF: Perez/Workman or Jung CF: Vierling/Perez LF: Greene DH: Jones/Carp Only real options I see making sense would be Workman or Jung to play RF against righties. Jung is on the 40 and Workman isn’t, so he probably gets the nod. Clark would obviously fit the roster better, but don’t see that happening. Julks to play RF against lefties seems like a waste of roster spot. Mckinstry still a few weeks away.
  25. No but what does wenceel perez have to do to lose playing time? Didn’t hit 2H last year, nor in spring, nor this year. Julks or Workman probably need a shot. Perez never had a track record as a hitter so not sure why his rope is so long. one silver lining is unlike last years roster, there should be an easy upgrade to find a league average OFer if meadows doesn’t come back or Clark doesn’t get promoted.
