Gleyber given a QO. I think Kim is perfect for this team to bridge SS. I also like Polanco as a 2B/3B/DH. Would love to see 2 of these 3 plus a short term FA pitcher (actually think Scherzer or Verlander would be a good fit).
-
Don’t see Harris making a splash for a position player in FA. Only possibilities I see are Bregman, Bichette, Polanco, and potentially Kim. Don’t see Tucker as realistic nor Bellinger as a good roster fit. I would be pretty surprised if there isn’t a minor trade given the plethora of mediocre 2B/3B types on the 40 man.

Kahnle with season on the line? Most of us were surprised he was even on the playoff roster.
-
This year is a reminder you need 8 starting pitchers. Flaherty has an interesting decision to make. Don’t think you could get anything better for a 1 year contract so I prefer him coming back. skubal, Olsen, Mize, Melton, Flaherty (or replacement FA) with Urquidy, Jobe, SGL, Montero as depth seems perfectly fine to me. Verlander would actually be a great fit as a reliable arm and maybe helps you limit innings for Melton and/or Jobe if necessary. Bigger issue is the offense. McKinstry, Baez, and Wenceel are best as bench pieces. There is going to have to be a trade with Max Anderson, Jung, Lee, plus Ibanez and Vierling all competing for bench spots.

This has been Harris biggest weakness. Short term deals are good in theory, but Harris has spent decent money on cahna, maeda, Cobb, Morton, paddock, brebbia, kahnle, Torres, and flaherty. It’s not being cheap, but i would argue his allocation of scarce resources has been god awful. -
Kahnle giving up hard contact. Montero and Kahnle pitching in a close playoff is wild. AJ needs to get off the sauce.
-
Aj Hinch is a smart guy. What the hell was he thinking? Heart of order, vest or finnegan would even make sense, especially with Holton for the lefties. Hurter was dealing, could even make some sense. But ****in Montero?
-
The ghost of Scott Harris trade deadline strikes again. why does aj hinch not know montero sucks like all of us?
-
Hanifee in for Sewald.
-
Also your daily reminder that trey Sweeney was 38th out of 38 shortstops in war, one of only two with negative war, and had an Wrc+ of 8 in the second half.
-
What is the scenario where we would need Sweeney as defensive replacement? Is there any situation where Baez would be pinch hit? And if so (say Keith doesn’t start for some strange reason), mckinstry would play short and we still have plenty of bench options to play 3rd or OF. Malloy pinch hitting seems less remote than needing Sweeney. if only we had a good left handed batter available that could play short and 2B as a better option off the bench. One with great plate discipline to give a good late inning AB.
-
Yes Sweeney in over Malloy. Don’t understand it.
-
Keith in, but Sweeney in? This organizations faith in Sweeney is unreal. ****ty defense and no bat? Sign me up. kahnle over Sewald also questionable.

So what changes to the roster for the next round? hopefully Keith replaces Sweeney. Trey has no use when Baez is playing well and mckinstry can play ss in a pitch. i would prefer Hanifee over kahnle. Doubt Vierling would get the call. -

I understand pitch hitting for Greene. I do not understand pitching melton over hurter with 3 lefties and a switch hitter in a row. also think it is karma that Cleveland calls up their top prospect and he makes a play, while ours is “developing” on the couch right now. -

Why did carpenter hit? What a bad decision by hinch. -
So on brand for Team Harris that Rafael Montero is our bullpen hope and loads the bases. Other than drafting McGonigle, is there a single move he has made that now looks good? I guess Finnigan. Torres looks solid but nowhere near as much of a steal 2 months ago. Canha, Urshela, Maeda, Brebbia, Cobb, Urquidy, Morton, Paddack, Kahnle, Montero. The Flaherty trade is mediocre with Sweeney and Liranzo ****ting the bed. E Rod fiasco. Saying McGonible needs to develop and trotting out negative WAR sweeeeny, if nothing else to do something to show he is trying. Not trying to win now. Now that we have two full years, not sure his tenure looks great. Too much focus on development for the theoretical future when playoffs are now. Too much of the smartest guy in the room so let’s sign a bunch of cheap **** instead of paying market price for some better talent.

I can’t believe that Trey Sweeney is playing in what amounts to a playoff game. What an indictment on this organization.

I suppose we could start by demoting him and going full McKinsey/Baez platoon. Are you saying no other options at all? Would you want Sweeney on a playoff roster? -

Nobody? Besides the obvious that has been litigated to death, Correa, Kim, IFK, etc all moved teams. There were options. -

Not the only or even primary reason for the slide, but Trey Sweeney has a wrc+ of 3 in the 2nd half of the year. That is lowest in all of MLB. He has the lowest full year WAR of any shortstop (one of only 2 negative WAR players with more than 200 abs). How is he even on the roster? -

Forgot about him and Lange. If healthy, final two spots (in order, health permitting): Cobb/Sewald/Haniffee/SGL/Lange. Wish we would move on from Montero/Kahnle and see what we have in the others. -

Of course Cobb isn’t a lock, but I’m sure the hope is he can build up arm strength and be useful/tolerate pain in short outings. Can anyone explain why Lange was sent down? Curious decision unless injury setback. -

Cobb and Hinch have said they are targeting him to return in the bullpen this year. He is rehabbing in Toledo. -

Pondering whether Kahnle gets released got me thinking of a best case playoff staff. Assuming 12 pitchers: Skubal/Flaherty/Mize/Morton (starters) Finnegan/Vest/Melton/Cobb/Holton (top relievers) Hurter (2nd lefty)/Hannifee (DP guy)most likely next tier Which would leave one spot for Paddack/Hernandez/Kahnle/SGL/3rd lefty/Urquidy. I would probably go with SGL unless Sommers is lights out the rest of the way. Not sure Kahnle could do anything the rest of the way to regain enough trust to pitch meaningful post reason minutes. Probably him or Montero are released?
