  1. Arizona riddling the Lions secondary. Suboptimal. Gotta make it up with another solid touchdown drive.
  2. Build a time machine and go back to 2010.
  3. But they are collapsing down the stretch and we are surging after the sell-off.
  4. Stores are open on Sunday and it’s after noon.
  5. I don’t care what you other morans sez: A.J. Hinch, AL Manager of the Year.
  6. Yes, A.J. had to put Foley back out there. He can’t punish him for his blowup by sitting him, and he has to give Foley a chance to redeem himself and regain confidence in going into a closer situation.
  7. Foley getting back on the horse. Forgive me for being nervous here.
  8. And then seeing them all huddled around the iPad watching the replay on the Parker catch? Icing on the cake. You can’t not love these guys.
  9. Carp is not crap.
  10. I love watching these guys root for each other. It makes it so easy to root for them.
  11. Is there another center fielder in the game today who has stolen more home runs lately than Parker Meadows?
  12. Does it? How so?
  13. Counterpoint: Tampa has been one of the best teams of the past 15 years and have never risen out of the lower third of player payrolls. The Mets have had the highest payroll in the game for a couple years. They didn’t even make the playoffs last year, and their fighting for the #3 wild card right now, same as us. The Dodgers—and the Yankees, for the matter—have never just thrown money around. They have both built formidable infrastructures that don’t depend solely on large player salaries. I don’t believe suppressing player salaries in the services of increasing owner profits is a good solution to what hasn’t even been established as the problem.
  14. Man, the Red Sox are beating the living snot out of the Twins in game one.
  15. Do you believe owners would lower prices for fans if they could lower salaries for players? Is that how it works?
  16. Wow, what a great play to get the runner at third, and heads up by Ty Madden the pitcher to get over there for the play!
  17. Yankees: one ring in the last 20 seasons (since 2003). Dodgers: one ring in the last 35 seasons (since 1988). I think things are fine as they are. No need to maximize profits for lifetime billionaires by depressing salaries for players who have only a few years of top earnings, if even that.
  18. AOC is 100% right when she says “If you run for years, and years, and years, and years, and years in a row, and your party has not grown, and you don't add city council seats, and you don't add down-ballot candidates, and you don't add state electeds, that's bad leadership."
  19. At least at this very moment. The insidiousness of monopolies is that they appear to be customer-friendly as they are dropping prices during their bid to run smaller competitors that can’t keep up out of business, at which point the monopolists will achieve the status they need to rent seek at consumers’ expense. This will be especially insidious in the case of Amazon once they get there because unlike with Baseball, a monopoly that consumers can take or leave, Amazon threatens to eventually be so integrated into the macroeconomy that no one will reasonably be able to “leave” it.
  20. I would think that due to their relationship with MLB, Reference could somehow API their way into the system such that it can track active roster status for each and every player for the purposes of calculating this to 99+%, if not 100%, accuracy. The $64 question in such a case is, what is the upside that would justify such effort and presumably expense? None that I can think of. There might be some sort of proprietary thing that’s available to MLB organizations, and perhaps to other professional principals, such as sports agents, that they pay a hefty subscription fee for.
  21. 36-119. I hope they win two of the next three because my wife and I are going to the Thursday afternoon White Sox game with friends of hers and I would like to see them go for #121 then. Otherwise, I’ll have to go Tuesday and/or Wednesday to see it.
  22. Calculating service time seems like the kind of thing that would be easy to figure out how even if it’s a little complicated to program. I run into that kind of thing while using Excel all the time.
  23. People generally think of comebacks as coming back from losing and then winning the game. In this game we were tied a couple times but never down.
