  1. The dumb leading the ignorant.
  2. Yes, he did. Who's going to stop him?
  3. The game is at 6:40pm which is when the Tigers start their night games this season, but they’re playing in San Diego, so it’s a 3:40pm start time out there, which is a rather strange local time to start a game. Turns out the Padres have several holiday and getaway games, maybe half a dozen or so, starting at 3:40pm local time. Most of them are against Eastern and Central teams, which made me wonder whether they did this for TV exposure in the opponents’ market for some reason, but they did schedule a 3:40pm against Seattle one game as well. This must be something that makes sense locally, maybe a weather thing or a civic thing.
  4. As for Navigato himself, perhaps there are holes in his game that he’s either working feverishly on, or that he can’t fix but they need still need some shortstop any shortstop to log innings at the Triple-A level. If he didn’t have holes in his game, he’d be up here right now, and if he had fewer holes in his game than Navigato, then it would be Sweeney in Toledo we’d be whining about not getting a chance in Detroit. Maybe we bring Navigato up if/when Trey Sweeney get hurts. As a 26-year-old 20th-rounder who has never been to the majors, they don’t have to be concerned about Navigato’s service time, nor do they have to baby his development in preparation for a major league career. If they have an emergency need for a shortstop in Detroit, they’ll probably just throw him in there; if they never do, they’ll let him play out the string in the bushes, or offer him as a throw-in to complete some deal. Not sure who would want an overripe minor-league lifer, though. FWIW, I also believe the Tigers might be thinking of Sweeney the same way. He’s not the future of the position for the Tigers, either. I believe some combination of McGonigle and Rainer probably is. Sweeney is simply the best of several suboptimal options in the present.
  5. I don’t think Harris and Hinch and the front office and the coaches fall in or out of love with any player. I don’t think it’s emotional at all. I think they have a plan and a process and are following through with it, making adjustments as necessary as conditions on the ground warrant. Getting emotional and falling in and out of love with players is what fans do.
  6. On a certain level, I would love to make the playoffs just to see us do an pitching opener and win the game. That would make baseball pundit heads explode all winter long.
  7. Not just the hometown pull, but the pull of accomplishment. Fetter still hasn’t achieved even a portion of his ultimate goal of winning a ring, which is making the playoffs in the first place. I can’t imagine him bolting in the offseason, even if the contract to keep him here wasn’t already in place.
  8. Man, that was an absolute rocket by Riley. One hundred-fourteen miles per hour, 22 degree launch angle. EDIT: Of the 2,093 out-of-the-park home runs that were returned in this query (I tried to get every homer in the Statcast era, but this isn't even as many home runs as have been hit in the American League just this year), only 45 went out at a 22 degree launch angle or less. That's about two percent. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPT=&hfAB=&hfGT=R|&hfPR=&hfZ=&hfStadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfPull=&hfC=&hfSea=2024|2023|2022|2021|2020|2019|2018|2017|2016|2015|2014|2013|2012|2011|2010|2009|2008|&hfSit=&player_type=pitcher&hfOuts=&hfOpponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=&game_date_lt=&hfMo=&hfTeam=&home_road=&hfRO=&position=&hfInfield=&hfOutfield=&hfInn=&hfBBT=&hfFlag=is\.\.hit\.\.into\.\.play\.\.basehit\.\.home\.\.run\.\.outofpark|is\.\.remove\.\.bunts|&metric_1=&group_by=name&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&min_pas=0&sort_col=launch_angle&player_event_sort=api_p_release_speed&sort_order=asc&chk_stats_launch_angle=on#results
  9. The problem with asking the question is that it looks like it's feeding into a conspiracy which, even if widely believed to be true, reflects worse on the questioner than the respondent as long as there is no proof positive to back it up.
  10. Wouldn't you rather get a real doctor on the phone?
  11. Whoa whoa whoa, wait, what? The GOP official account is posting this tonight? Is this to imply that Bowman Hamel is gonna get the boot and be replaced by Tulsi Putin?
  12. I posted that for its comic value.
  13. Nobody actually sits in front of the TV waiting for Tigers Live to start, do they? Because Bally Sports plays what must be literally nine minutes of commercials in the first ten minutes between end of game and beginning of Tigers Live.
  14. A VPN on a Windows laptop will cure what ails ya.
  15. I thought we liberal elites were supposed to be understanding of Trump voters' fee-fees and give them a hug?
  16. Was Vierling not busting it on that groundout? Because he's super fast and the fastest him had a chance to beat that.
  17. "Cy YOUNG! Cy YOUNG! Cy YOUNG! Cy YOUNG!"
  18. And that's why Ryan Krediler is in the game.
  19. 31-105. I like their chances.
  20. Hell of a game all of a sudden.
  21. Man caught a break on that stolen base by McKinstry. He was dead to rights.
  22. They’re creating drama out of it right now, and at some point the story is going to be about the story.
  23. Hey guys! Jack a bomb!
